Chapter 127
Chapter 127
Just as the atmosphere in the bedroom was getting awkward, Avery successfully found her phone. Just as the atmosphere in the bedroom was getting awkward, Avery successfully found her phone.
Upon turning on her phone with some difficulty, she saw loads of messages flood into her screen.
One of which was a message Brodie sent to her via WhatsApp: When are you getting off work, Ery? What do you say if we have dinner tonight? Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
She quickly replied to him.
Once she finished typing, she let out a soft sigh, unwilling to turn her head around to look at Cayden again. Then she twisted the knob and walked out of the room.
She carefully closed the bedroom door before looking around. All she could tell was that she was in a mansion. This is probably Dylan's house. I can hear voices of people talking and glasses clinking coming from below. It sounds like a cocktail event.
Avery continued to observe her surrounding. Seems like my only way out is through the front door. She headed toward the staircase as silently as possible.
“Ms. Rumpley?” Xavier saw her looking down by the staircase when he was ascending the stairs.
Avery awkwardly greeted him when her eyes met his. “Mr. Dartsley.”
It was then he realized why his boss had been glancing on the second floor fervently when drinking, and also why his boss had left halfway to head upstairs. Why is she on the second floor, though?
Xavier was an observant guy. After strolling around the event in the Musk residence, he overheard some interesting gossip.
Everyone was saying that Dylan had turned over a new leaf. Additionally, he was said to have brought an official girlfriend home with him that night. However, the girlfriend was said to have fainted from heatstroke.
The moment she arrived, she was carried upstairs by Dylan to rest.
They said a doctor also came and gave Dylan's girlfriend an IV drip.
When Xavier lowered his head, he saw there was an injection mark on Avery's hand.
He had no right to interfere with his boss' personal matter, so all he could do was give her a reminder. “There are a lot of bigshots on the ground floor, Ms. Rumpley. I'm afraid you won't be able to leave for now.”
Avery wished she had the ability to turn invisible and leave immediately. Sadly, she didn't live in a world where superpowers exist.
“Ms. Ery?” Zachary was holding his game console with one hand and adjusting the earphone in his ear with the other. Rory was following him as they casually arrived at the staircase.
Both of them swiftly ascended the stairs and hugged Avery's legs tightly.
When Avery was around, any games they were playing would no longer seem attractive.
“I'll head downstairs first.” Xavier left upon seeing that so as to give his boss' family some space.
“Where's my daddy, Ms. Ery?” Rory tugged Avery's dress, raised her head, and asked.
Since Avery couldn't just keep standing by the staircase, and her children were clinging to her very tightly, so she decided to send both of them to their father's side first.
When she opened the door, she saw Cayden standing next to the window with one of his hands resting inside his pocket. The other hand was pinching his furrowed eyebrows.
It wasn't until he saw Avery with the kids that he let down his hand and stared at her.
“I still have things to do, so stay with your daddy first, okay?” She crouched down and persuaded the kids to stay after all three of them entered the room.
However, the twins were smart, and they didn't want her to leave as it made them feel abandoned.
“But I want to stay with you, Ms. Ery.” Rory pouted and wrapped her arms around Avery's neck. She also rubbed her cheeks against Avery's skin.
Avery's heart was instantly softened because Rory's long and thick eyelashes were brushing on her skin like tiny brushes.
Cayden didn't come over to help her out. Instead, he just let the kids cling on to her.
It was then Avery's phone went buzzing again.
She checked the message and saw Brodie reply: I'll pick you up.
Avery replied quickly: No need. Just tell me where to meet you, and I'll drive there.
Brodie typed: I think it's better if I pick you up. It's what I should do as your boyfriend.
Avery sent: It's really not necessary, though I appreciate your thoughtfulness. I know how much traffic there is during rush hour.
Zachary could understand most of the words being exchanged, and so he raised his sad eyes toward Avery before asking, “Why did this person say he's your boyfriend, Ms. Ery? Isn't your boyfriend Daddy?”
Avery didn't raise her head to check Cayden's reaction and simply explained, “This person is indeed my boyfriend.”
“What about Daddy?” Rory asked.
“Your daddy is my superior, my boss.” Avery squeezed out a smile and gently caressed Rory's cheeks.
When Zachary heard that, he turned to look at his dad with a sorrowful expression, as though he was asking for an answer. Is this really how it is, Daddy? Is what Ms. Ery said true?
Avery slowly put down the children she was carrying in her arms and prepared to leave, despite how
upset the twins appeared to be.
When Cayden witnessed that and saw how his children were on the verge of tears, he remarked coldly at Avery, who was on the way out of the room. “Stop!”
Avery jumped at his authoritative tone and halted in her tracks instinctively.
The children were also shocked by their father and held back the tears that were on the verge of streaming down their cheeks. In the midst of their sobs, they stared at their father, who was approaching them from the window.
Avery turned back and met his unfathomably deep eyes.
“What's the matter?” The moment she finished asking, she saw Cayden leaning toward her.
The instant he pushed his body toward her, his dark figure blocked her line of sight as she was pinned to the door.
She could feel a wet sensation on her lips as the temperature around them rose.
He was domineeringly sucking on her lips.
It was as though the air around them had frozen. Avery's heartbeat quickened in fright. The sounds he made from sucking on her lips were deafening.
She forcefully pushed Cayden away, but in the next second, he sucked her entire lips into his mouth.
His breathing was getting heavier as it brushed past her ears.
The kiss lasted for a long time before he let her go.
“Ms. Ery isn't anyone else's girlfriend. She's my girlfriend.” Cayden turned to the twins and told them that when he left Avery's lips, rubbing her red lips with his thumb.
The twins were on the verge of crying until they saw their father acting like that. Cayden's declaration prompted them to start dancing in circles.
“No—” Avery wanted to rebut, but the moment she opened her mouth, Cayden successfully shut her up with his lips.
The kiss wasn't violent or sexual, since it was done in front of the children. As a parent, he didn't want to go overboard, but only a kiss could make his point effectively.
Rory was so overjoyed that she clapped. “Yay! Daddy and Ms. Ery are kissing!”
Cayden held Avery's fair face and continued to kiss her until her lips turned swollen at an angle where his children wouldn't be able to see. This woman is the woman who birthed my twins.
