The CEO Gets What He Wants

Chapter 114

Chapter 114

Yvonne finally arrived at the office after Avery and Cecelia finished their lunch at the employee cafeteria.

“I'm sorry. I was stuck in a jam when I send over a tie I bought for my boyfriend when I went shopping yesterday. I got stuck in the jam again when I was on my way to the office,” Yvonne explained to her colleagues and lowered herself to her seat with a wide smile.

Avery lifted her head to look at Yvonne.

Cecelia texted Avery: Who exactly is Yvonne?

To prevent Cecelia from offending Yvonne in the future, Avery answered honestly: Our boss' mother likes her a lot and treats her like her future daughter-in-law. As for her family background, I'm not sure about that.

Cecelia looked up at Avery with wide eyes.

Avery merely focused her attention back on her work after she replied to the message.

After pondering over it briefly, Cecelia looked over her shoulder at Yvonne. Yvonne put her purse on her desk and was currently touching up her nails. How is it possible for Boss to like dumb girls like her?

Cecelia was sure that Cayden wouldn't marry an ostentatious and pretentious woman like Yvonne unless he was blind.

Finally, it was time to get off work.

It was after five in the evening, and employees were filtering out of the company building with Yulissa in the lead.

Cecelia led Avery over to her car in the parking lot.

While putting the seat belt on, Cecelia caught a glimpse of someone outside the window. “Yvonne would've come up to us if we didn't get in quick enough. I figured she wasn't looking for me but you.”

Avery followed her line of sight and saw Yvonne did intend to approach her but changed her mind at the very last minute. Yvonne whirled around and walked back to her car once she saw Avery getting into Cecilia's car.

“Watch your back with her. Don't let bossy, rich girls like her mess with you,” Cecelia reminded.

Avery nodded.

It wasn't long after Cecelia pulled out of the parking lot when her phone rang.

“Hello?” Cecelia asked after tapping on the Bluetooth headset on her ear.

“Cecelia, is Avery with you? Turn back. There's been a venue change. Ms. Gallagher had booked another more luxurious venue. I'll send you the new location via WhatsApp.”

Yulissa hung up after that.

A few minutes later, Cecelia's phone dinged with a notification of an incoming message.

Cecelia tapped on the message and chuckled when she saw the new location. “How generous of Ms. Gallagher. She booked the fanciest entertainment establishment in the city. We're in luck tonight.”

She made a u-turn at the crossroad up ahead.

With an arch of her brow, she said, “Choose only the expensive stuff on the menu there. Let's eat and drink to our heart's content tonight. It's a first in my seven years of career to meet such a gullible person.”

Cecelia parked her car in the entertainment establishment's parking lot.

They went into the entertainment establishment and beelined for the private room Yvonne booked. The room number had been sent to everyone in the department.

Yvonne was already in the room, chatting away with a few younger female colleagues when they arrived.

“All of you look innocent and kind, but I met a lot of materialistic girls when I was pursuing my studies overseas. Those girls knew where to find rich men and would dress up to the nines and fake a run-in with them. They thought they were dressing their best, but all they had on were cheap clothing and imitation purses.” Yvonne paused to take a sip of water before continuing, “I don't even care to expose them.”

One of the colleagues agreed, “You're so kind, Yvonne. I would've exposed them, right then and there, and let them have a taste of humiliation.”

Yvonne laughed and added excitedly, “There are also girls that are materialistic but pretend to be innocent. That type of girl is the hardest to handle. They would go to the wealthy suburb dressed in a pair of jeans and a tee without putting on any makeup. They could always bait a few rich, oblivious men with their natural beauty.”

“There are girls like that?” another colleague gasped.

“Of course. Some men like the seductive kind, and some like the innocent kind.” Yvonne stealthily slid a glance toward Avery at the end.

Cecelia witnessed how Yvonne jeered at Avery while talking. NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

After being in the society for so many years, she could easily read the insinuation behind Yvonne's words. Yvonne was implying Avery was a materialistic girl who put up an innocent front.

“Innocent girls gaining rich men's favors could only mean that they're capable.” Cecelia boldly took a seat beside Yvonne.

Yvonne snickered. “Capable? They are not even compatible in both education and family background. They are merely taking advantage of their looks.”

Knowing it would annoy Yvonne, Cecelia added purposely, “The point is that they are indeed naturally beautiful, even without makeup on.”

Yvonne's face darkened instantaneously.

She bit on her lip and stayed quiet.

Yulissa was a woman, so she knew well what happened after hearing the exchange between the duo.

Yulissa decided to temporarily ignore and feign ignorance to all the rebuttal Cecelia made toward Yvonne.

Even though Yvonne was a brainless idiot, she would cry and laugh like a normal person.

As the department head, her only task was to make sure Yvonne was happy at her workplace.

Yulissa made a mental note to remind Cecelia to not offend Yvonne. What if the whole department was implicated as a result? Cecelia will have to bear the consequence if Yvonne complains to a certain someone.

“Attention, everyone. I have something to say,” Yulissa shouted into the microphone.

The background music in the room was so loud that one had to scream to get the attention of others.

“Beer, where's the beer? Can someone get the beer?” Yulissa reminded.

Zayne stood up voluntarily. “I'll go. I'll ask for a few more glasses from the staff too.”

Yulissa nodded, satisfied with the hard-working Zayne.

Zayne counted the number of people and left the room.

Five minutes later, a few waiters entered the room.

One waiter set down the glasses on the table while the others popped the caps off the beer bottles. Yulissa and a few others took the opened beer and poured the golden liquid into the empty glasses.

Once they filled up all the empty glasses, they started handing them out to everyone in the department.

Yulissa began her speech with some pleasantries, then warmly welcomed Yvonne to the department. Her words implied that Yvonne was someone with a background but didn't specify.

Yvonne's smile widened with pride. After I've adapted to working here and married Cayden, the first thing I'll do is fire Cecelia. I don't like anyone close to Avery.

Lastly, Yulissa also welcomed Avery and Zayne, complimenting them for their good work over the past month.

“Let's toast.” Yulissa raised her glass.

Everyone followed suit and raised their glasses. Everyone took a sip of beer after the toast.

Yulissa tried to butter up Yvonne, “Okay, that's it from me. Have fun, everyone, but remember to thank Yvonne for her generosity. It's her treat tonight.”

Meanwhile, it was dinner time back at the Moore residence.

Kendrick, who had investigated Avery's whole relationship history, sat at the dining table and reminded Cayden softly, “I heard the design department is having a party tonight, and they'll be serving alcohol.

Aren't you worry about Avery having too much to drink and being taken advantage of by that jerk, Zayne?”
