The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday

Chapter 187

Freya was well aware of Audrey's disposition. Audrey would take charge at the office early in the morning as the fiancée was involved in a scandal that rocked the Sutton family. Sure enough, when Freya arrived, Audrey was already there. "Freya, what on earth happened last night? I want the full story," Audrey demanded, her presence commanding.

Freya replied with neither submissiveness nor arrogance, "Last night, Leland, in a moment of folly, offended Ms. Ramsey, attempting to force himself on her after having too much to drink..."

Freya slightly furrowed her brows as Audrey continued, "Leland is nineteen this year, isn't he? How can he not control himself? I've heard he's been bragging about being the Sutton family's future brother-in-law. What? Does he think the Sutton family will cover for him if he messes up?"

"Ridiculous!" Audrey slammed her fist on the desk, causing Jarrett to hold his tongue.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

"Grandmother, I'll handle it."

"And how do you plan to handle it?" Audrey threw a look at Kieran and said, "What, by breaking off the engagement with the Dawson family?"

A faint smile appeared on Freya's lips at the mention of breaking off the engagement. She had allowed Leland to misbehave at the party because she knew Audrey's temperament.

Leland caused a similar scandal at the party in her previous life, offending the Ramsey family. Freya repeatedly apologized to the Ramsey family on Leland's behalf, which resulted in the Sutton family losing face. Audrey had started to dislike Freya after that. Freya had gone to great lengths to regain Audrey's favor, doing whatever it took.

It wasn't until then that Audrey had finally accepted her back as the Sutton family's fiancée. But in this life, she had no intention of trying so hard with Audrey.

Her act of spoiling Leland was just a

trick to make Audrey drop the idea

of her being the future

daughter-in-law of the Sutton family. If Audrey relented, it would be difficult for Kieran to keep the engagement even if he wanted to.

"Grandmother, the Ramsey family is of no concern to me," Kieran said calmly. "Besides, Reya apologized to Mr. Ramsey and his family last night. Leland made this mistake, and Mr. Ramsey has reprimanded him. It has nothing to do with Reya."

Kieran's constant use of "Reya" made Freya inwardly cringe. Who was it last night that, disregarding her feelings, showed up at the dinner party with Eloise? Then, he was putting on a show, playing the protective fiancé.

"That might be true, but now with the Dawson family's reputation..." Audrey's eyes went cold as she looked at Freya. "Freya, I need to rethink your engagement with Kieran."

Freya said, "Audrey, last night's incident has tarnished the Sutton family's reputation. I know I'm not fit to be Mrs. Sutton and do not wish to hold Mr. Sutton back..."

Before Freya could finish her heartfelt speech, Kieran sensed what she was about to say. His brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, and before his brain could catch up, his body moved swiftly to Freya's side.

Kieran took Freya's hand, saying, "Grandma, what Reya means is, from now on, she will fulfill her duties diligently and become a qualified Mrs. Sutton. There will be no repeat of last night's incident." Hearing that, Freya furrowed her brows, wanting to pull her hand away, but Kieran's grip was unexpectedly firm, leaving her no chance to break free.

What on earth was Kieran playing at?
