Chapter 1739

"Rescue?" Those words struck a nerve in Lysander, his gaze sharp as ice, making Alaric's legs feel like jelly.Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.

"I'm sorry, Lysander, I didn't want this to happen either. It just... happened out of nowhere," Alaric confessed, visibly distressed and in pain.

He had been on cloud nine, heading to meet Hertha, imagining they might already be on their way to the city hall to get their marriage license if it weren't for the accident.

Instead, he was stuck in the hospital, anxiously waiting and fearing the worst.

Lysander's gaze shifted from Alaric to the emergency room door, his jaw clenched tight, a clear sign of his rising tension.

Seeing Lysander silent, Alaric wisely chose not to say more.

The atmosphere in the emergency room corridor grew increasingly heavy, suffocating.

After a nerve-wracking half-hour wait, the door swung open, and a doctor stepped out.

The moment Lysander saw the doctor, he eagerly moved forward, intent on inquiring about the situation. Alaric, however, beat him to it, striding over with long steps: "Doctor, how's Thalassa doing?"

"Just some superficial injuries, nothing serious. Just make sure the wounds don't get infected," the doctor explained.

Hearing this, Alaric's pent-up tension finally dissipated, and he gratefully thanked the doctor.

Lysander, on the other hand, could only watch from behind, confined to his wheelchair, as Alaric, tall and obstructive like a wall, spoke to the doctor about Thalassa's condition.

Because of the wheelchair, he had lost the chance to reach the doctor first.

This was the difference between him and those who could stand.

"Lysander, did you hear that? Thalassa is going to be okay; she just needs a few days of rest," Alaric said, turning back towards Lysander, expecting to see a shared relief on his face. Instead, he was met with Lysander's cold, unapproachable expression, his deep-set eyes making Alaric uneasy. After sharing the good news, Alaric received no response, only watching as Lysander began to wheel himself away towards the exit.

David quickly stepped forward to assist Lysander with his wheelchair.

Confused, Alaric asked, "Lysander, aren't you going to wait for Thalassa?"

Lysander offered no reply, simply continuing on his way out of the emergency ward.

Soon after, the doctor and a nurse wheeled Thalassa out of the emergency room, and Alaric hurried over to meet them.

Upon Alaric's request, Thalassa was placed in the same room as Hertha.

Alaric spent around five hours in the room when Hertha finally woke up, her head throbbing with pain, "Where am I?"

"Hertha, you're awake!" Alaric rushed to her side.

The sight of Alaric immediately reminded Hertha of his

disappearance over the last foul

days, the reason she had drowned her sorrows in liquor.

Now, seeing him, her temper flared, and she raised her hand to strike him, "Alaric, you heartless jerk, how dare you show up!"

Alaric caught her hand, pulling her

into an embrace, his voice tingedet

with a boyish hurt, "Hertha, I'm sorry for making you wait." Conte

"Don't give me that!" Hertha snapped, struggling to free her hand.

"Shh, keep it down, you'll wake Thalassa," Alaric gestured for her to lower her voice.

"Thalassa? Hertha exclaimed,

looking around, only then noticing

they were in a hospital, with Thalassa lying in the bed next to hers.

Hertha was shocked, "Thalassa, what happened to you?"

She pushed Alaric away and rushed to Thalassa's side.
