Chapter 1724
Before Thalassa could even turn around, Callum was already in front of her, his hands pressing down on her shoulders, his eyes - warm and earnest - locked onto hers. "Thalassa, I told you three years ago, I've been in love with you. I've waited three years; don't you know by now how I feel?"
The grip Callum had on Thalassa's shoulders was firm, betraying his emotional turmoil. His gaze, too, turned desperate.
This intensity from Callum sent a wave of panic through Thalassa. Her eyes, wide and shimmering, were just about to respond.
Suddenly, from the corner of her eye, she spotted a sleek black limousine gliding past, its presence commanding, impossible to ignore. The windows were down, and inside, a man with deep, piercing eyes watched her, reminiscent of a wolf in the night. The city's neon lights flicked through his gaze, casting a haunting luminescence akin to the glow of a predator's eyes in the darkness.
It was Lysander!
Even from just a glimpse of his eyes, Thalassa recognized him. The man in the car was Lysander!
A chill ran down Thalassa's spine, her heart racing with unease.
She hastily stepped back, escaping Callum's grasp, took a deep breath, and said, "Mr. Gordon, love isn't something you can force. Don’t waste your time on me. Lysander's marriage to Rosalind has nothing to do with me. Whether I date or he gets married, it’s irrelevant. I appreciate your help today in clearing my name. Rest assured, I'll give you a third of the reward money."
"It’s not about the money..."
"It’s late, Mr. Gordon. You should head home. I need to go as well." Thalassa cut off Callum’s response, straightforward and firm, then turned away, heading towards the sidewalk.
The limousine had already merged back into the traffic. Just then, a taxi came along. Thalassa hailed it, got in, and rode away.
Callum, watching the taxi disappear into the distance, clenched his fists in frustration, his once tender eyes reflecting a cold glare.
Sitting in the taxi, Thalassa took several deep breaths to calm her racing heart.
She had made it clear to Callum when he confessed three years ago not to waste his time.
Yet, he stubbornly waited.
This realization weighed heavily on Thalassa. She didn’t want a repeat of the Leopold Sinclair incident but accepting someone’s feelings just to prevent that was not an option either.
She could not betray her own heart or be irresponsible with love.
Callum’s passionate expression earlier had put her under immense pressure.
She could see he was serious about her, but she couldn’t honor his feelings.
Rejecting Callum was not because she saw Lysander; she had meant to reject him anyway.
Callum’s obsession was still deep. How could she make him let go completely?
Thalassa was troubled, her mind racing back to Susan’s accusations earlier, insisting she was the mastermind behind her own framing.
But something didn’t sit right with Thalassa.
"Driver, can you turn around, please? Back to the police station." With Callum there earlier, there were things Thalassa couldn’t inquire about. She wanted to ask Susan again, especially how she
ended up modeling at the jewelry competition while being on the police radar.
Back at the station, Thalassa registered her visit, and an officer led her to see Susan. Another officer mentioned Susan was taken to the visitor's room, where someone was already speaking with her.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
