Chapter 1699
Hertha gritted her teeth, forcing out each word: "Alaric, you're threatening me, aren't you!"
"It's not a threat, I just desperately want your forgiveness," Alaric replied earnestly. "Hertha, I want to marry you. I've never felt so strongly about marrying someone before."
The Alaric standing before her seemed like a different person, earnest and focused. Usually, he was carefree and charming, as if nothing in the world could bother him.
His sudden seriousness and depth of emotion caught Hertha off guard.
His words softened her heart a bit. She relented, "Just go back, I'll think about it."
"Really?" Alaric's eyes lit up.
"Do you think I'm like you, not keeping my word?" Hertha glared at him.
Alaric's lips curled up, his serious expression instantly replaced with his usual rogue charm.
He put on his robe and walked out.
As he passed Hertha, he leaned in to steal a kiss.
Startled, Hertha dodged and slapped him on the back, "Trying to sneak one by me, huh? Get lost! And quick about it!"
Alaric left with a laugh as carefree as a blooming flower, walking barefoot to the door and leaving.
Only when Alaric had completely left did Hertha finally relax.
Thinking back to their physical closeness from last night to this morning made Hertha's heart race and her cheeks flush.NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
Despite her reservations, her affection for Alaric remained unwavering; her body betraying her feelings towards that scoundrel!
Alaric's earlier confession about wanting to marry her had indeed shaken her resolve.
Letting go of someone you deeply love is painful.
Compared to overcoming her reservations and accepting him, giving up seemed even more heartbreaking, and the pain would last longer. When Hertha said she'd consider it, she truly meant it.
She was lost in thought at the dining
table when Kimberly came back,

a lock and hammer, ready
to break the door lock, only to find the door already open.
"Hertha, are you fooling me again? What are you hiding in there that you won't let me see?" Kimberly said as she walked into Hertha's room, checking the curtains and wardrobe.
Finding nothing, she felt a bit disappointed and sat down across from Hertha, "Come on, out with it. How did your talk with Alaric go?"
Just then, a knock on the door.
"I'll get it, you stay," Kimberly stopped Hertha, standing up and swiftly opening the door.
Seeing Alaric, Kimberly's face lit up
with a warm welcome, "Alaric, you're here! Come in. I was just asking Hertha about your talk yesterday. That girl won't tell me a thing. Now that you're here, spill it. What are your intentions with Hertha?"
"Kimberly, I want to marry Hertha," Alaric said straightforwardly.
"Really, that's wonderful!" Kimberly was overjoyed.
Hertha stood up in shock, glaring at Alaric from a distance.
Since when had she agreed to marry him?
