Scared
Sofie’s POV
As Nathan and I walked through the crowded hallway to the car, I felt innumerable pairs of eyes fixed on me with various mumblings of incoherent words trailing after me.
I clutched my hands into fists as I willed my legs, which had suddenly become as heavy as lead to carry me to the car. The nervousness and trepidation sizzling within me at that moment was inexplicable.
Momentarily, I turned back as my heart tinged with fear for the umpteenth time since I had walked out of the chancellor’s office that day.
God, I just hoped the man didn’t feed Roman lies about me or worse still, Roman wasn’t doing anything mortifying to the man.
I mean I knew he totally deserved all the horrible things in life for forcing himself on me, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to live with myself or with the gruesome thought that Roman really did something horrible to him.
Calm down, Sofie. You are probably overthinking everything, it’s not like he knows Cornelius is the molester, so why are you worrying so much about this? A voice floated into my mind amidst the whirlpool of dreadful thoughts swirling in my head.
Right. I was worried for nothing. After all, I didn’t tell Roman his name nor did I describe who it was to him.
Hell, I didn’t even tell him the person was from school.
So, everything would be fine, and Roman would come to the car and we’d go home and probably fuck or cuddle till nightfall.
Yes, that was it.
But Roman had said something about wanting to discuss something with Cornelius, what could that be?
“Babe, how far? What’s going on?” A familiar, chirpy voice wafted into my ears, pulling me out of my reverie and prompting me to spin around to answer who it belonged to.
Katie looked worried as she moved closer to me and hugged me.
I had only known her for a day, but it felt like we had known each other for years and were platonic soulmates.
No, my bad. Amy was and will always be my platonic soulmate but Katie was really dear to my heart.
“Five minutes, please. I want to say something to her.” I begged Nathan who sighed and nodded, “Please be fast about it, ma’am.”
“Thank you.” I whispered, to which he nodded before drifting some feet away from us, though his gaze was still secured on me.
“Ma’am? I should have known you were rich. I mean, you were cladin luxury brand clothings from head to toe yesterday and even today. No wonder you are getting married so early. Is it an arranged marriage? Is your husband the wealthy heir to a fortune?” Katie babbled on, her eyes shining with curiosity.
I sighed, exasperated as my eyes met with Nathan’s.
He cleared his throat, rather obnoxiously and pointed to his wristwatch before looking away. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“”That isn’t important for now. Why are people standing outside and what are they mumbling? Did anyone say anything after I left the cafeteria?” I asked, to which she shook her head.
“No, they didn’t. I heard they came out to get a glance of your fiancée. They are saying he’s really tall and handsome. Though, I’m disappointed I didn’t have a chance to catch a glimpse of him.” Katie explained with a sigh.
My cheeks heated up with a mixture of shyness, and pride as I became lost for words.
Even if mine and Roman’s relationship was nothing but a charade, I couldn’t help but preen with delight.
And momentarily, the thought of Cornelius possibly being dead by Roman’s hands evaporated from my mind.
I was about to form a reasonable sentence from the garbled words in my mind when Nathan advanced toward us and nodded.
“We will talk about this some other time, okay?” I said, already sidling with Nathan.
“Alright, babe. Take care.” Katie waved and I nodded before walking through the exit doors to the parking lot.
On getting to the car, without as much as a word, Nathan flung the door open, and I quietly climbed in as I mumbled a thank you.
Immediately I made myself comfortable in the car, the scary thoughts rushed into my head again and though I tried to shake them off, my efforts were futile as the thoughts kept flowing in.
“He’s back.” Nathan muttered, staring outside the window.
My gaze followed his to Roman’s smug approaching form; a smile was plastered to his face, and even from a distance, I could tell it was sinister.
It was dryly humorous, which badly agitated me.
I watched Nathan hop out of the car to fling open the door for Roman to enter.
“Cara.” Roman said as his assistant slammed the door shut and went back to the driver’s seat.
I instantly attacked him with a barrage of questions as he took my hand in his,”How did it go? What were you discussing with him? I-”
He raised a finger to my face and calmly shook his head, “One question at a time, doll. I’m not a robot.”
“Right. I’m sorry, so what did you discuss with him?” I asked, willing myself to remain calm and collected.
“Something along the lines of him keeping his hands to himself. Don’t worry about it, petal. We didn’t talk much.” He smiled, placing a hand over mine.
My heart pounded with inexplicable panic as I forced the words out of my mouth, “What do you mean keeping his hands to himself?”
He withdrew his hand from mine as his eyes darkened, “Don’t act clueless, Sofie. Stop it, it’s infuriating. I know what that bastard did to you, I saw the way he looked at you. I know he left that stupid hickey on you and I’ve taken care of it on my terms. In his next life, he’d never think of looking at women, talk less of laying his filthy hands on them.” He said, his voice octaves lower, which sent shivers racing down my spine.
“Y-You didn’t do anything bad to him, did you?” I choked out, anxiety lacing my voice.
His smirk was sinister, “Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t.”
And my face fell in horror.
