An unsettling feeling
Roman’s POV
“It’s good to see that you’ve finally accepted defeat. You will never be able to beat me, Sofie. Not in this life or the next. You will always be a wretched lowlife.”
That was the reel of insults I woke up to.
I slowly blinked my eyes open, only for me to see the strange woman–Sofie kneeling on the floor with her hands clasped to her chest as she wept.
“You better go back to wherever your stupid self came from, because you are not, and will never be needed here.” The voice from earlier said again.
I knew who that voice belonged to.
I would always be able to decipher that obnoxiously loud and chirpy voice even in a room filled with thousands of women.
Lana. A voice in my mind unhelpfully supplied as she finally came within my vision.
“Looks like he’s starting to wake up.” She said, leaning over to stroke my forehead.
Sofie also stood up and stood on the other side of the bed, watching me silently.
“What are you doing here, Lana?” I asked, as she smiled down at me.
The last time I had seen that smile was when I went to her apartment and found her on top of that bastard, whom she had lied to me was her cousin.
“I can’t believe you’re finally awake, Roman. I missed you so much, babe.” She sniffled, although not a single drop of tear rolled down her face.
“Don’t call me that, Lana.” I muttered.
“You are still here, Miss Sofie. Are you waiting for someone?” I asked the petite brunette, and she just smiled and shook her head.
“No. I’m about to leave. I wanted to see you one more time before I leave.” She replied softly.
“Oh. Thanks for your concern.” I mumbled.
“You don’t need to thank me, Roman. I will always be here for you whenever you need me.” Sofie darted me a sad smile which tugged at my heartstrings.
For an unknown reason, I badly wanted to cross the distance between us and pull her into a hug.
I just felt this inexplicable urge to apologize to her.
“Be careful with that woman, Roman.” She glared at Lana who just scoffed and crossed her arms over her chest.
“Don’t listen to that bitch, babe. She’s trying to brainwash you. She needs to be locked up in a mental facility for the rest of her life. She’s nothing b-”
“And when did I ask for your damn opinion, Lana?” I thundered, and she instantly clamped her mouth shut.
“Lana made you like this. She tried to kill you but you survived, and I’m sure she’s going to try to do it again but be rest assured that there are cctv cameras everywhere. Both visible and hidden ones.” She threw a pointed look at Lana.
Sofie’s words sounded both crazy and believable at the same time.
Lana tried to kill me? How would she even do that?
But I had also heard how she had dished out horrendous and condescending insults to Sofie.
At that point, I didn’t even know who I was supposed to believe.
Sofie fixed me a wistful look before she grabbed her bag and left, without darting me a backward glance.
“What was that about? Who is she, and where exactly did she come from? And don’t you dare say you don’t know, because I heard you cussing her out.” I uttered.
“You dated her after we broke up, and later on, you eventually broke up with her and we resumed dating. But being the delusional golddigger that she is, she still thinks you’re in love with her, and is trying to break us apart like she did before.” Lana sobbed, interlacing our hands together.
“How come I don’t remember ever getting back together with you? Why would I even get back with you when you cheated on me?” I spat, yanking my hand out of her hold.
“I never cheated on you, Roman. Where did you even get that from?” Lana gasped, placing a hand over her chest.
“We both know you cheated, Lana. And I don’t really care whether you come clean or not because I have no business with you anymore. Don’t think your coming to visit me in the hospital will change anything because it won’t. I have never loved you, and I don’t see myself loving you in the future either.” I gritted out.
“You are such a fucking heartless scumbag, Roman. I have no idea why I had to fall for an arrogant asshole like you. As if you not paying enough attention to me while we dated was not enough, you’re still trying to-”
“Just shut the hell up, Lana. Shut that fucking mouth up for goodness sake, dammit! Do you want me to get the nurses to ask you to leave?” I bellowed, infuriated.
“Why do you despise me so much? Why can’t you even pretend to love me?” She cried.
“I don’t want to do this with you, Lana. I have a migraine and raising my voice intensifies it. I want you to leave.”I retorted, and she wiped her crocodile tears off her face.
“So you still can’t recall anything that happened recently, right?” She asked, with an hopeful glint flashing across her eyes.
“Why? Is there something you don’t want me to remember?” I scoffed.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
“No. Of course not.” She feigned hurt. “I’d never wish that on you. I want you to recover fully and get your memory back as soon as possible, so you’d remember your promise to marry me.”
I snorted out a mirthless huff. “Just leave. I’ve heard enough of your lies.”
She just giggled, put on a pair of sunglasses and blew me a flying kiss before she left.
It was obvious she was hiding something from me.
Maybe Sofie was right.
What if Lana has actually tried to kill me?
I instantly shrugged the thought away just as it floated into my mind.
She wouldn’t be that confident if that was the case. I concluded within myself, ignoring the tiny voice in my head disagreeing with me.
