Chapter 871
Chapter 871
Isaac knew the score; he wasn’t one for secrets. Rubbing his temple, he said, “I picked up Daniel this
afternoon, and his teacher gave me a bunch of forms about getting ready for elementary school.”
He walked over to Brittany. “I had no idea she was sneaking sweets to Daniel. It was news to me.”
Brittany felt a twinge of discomfort at his words but couldn’t quite put her finger on why.
Isaac took her hand. “She shouldn’t have given him sweets without asking. Want me to say something?
Maybe get her transferred?”
Daniel’s health was Brittany’s top priority, always had been.
He was a preemie, born with the odds stacked against him. For years, he battled one health issue after
another, only recently starting to resemble a healthy kid his age.
“No need,” Brittany didn’t want to make a mountain out of a molehill. “I’m sure she won’t do it again.”
Isaac, sensing she was cooling down, leaned in for a kiss.
“Wait…” Brittany pushed against his chest, her hand clutching his shirt. “Do you think Ms. Hana has a
thing for you?”
She wasn’t looking to stir up trouble, nor was she trying to smear Hana’s name. But her intuition was
sounding alarms. Hana’s ‘friendly’ gestures, the sweets-it all felt like a challenge.
Isaac protested, “I’ve only met Ms. Hana a couple of times. We barely talk. Besides, what does it
matter if she likes me?”
He wouldn’t know Hana if it weren’t for that afternoon’s encounter. How could there be anything
between them?
Brittany knew him well and let it go.
The next day, life went on as usual. Isaac dropped Daniel off at school.
“Bye, Daddy.”
Daniel, his backpack in tow, trotted into the daycare.
Isaac turned to leave and almost bumped into Ms. Hana, who had materialized beside his car, regret
written all over her face.
“I’m sorry about last night. I didn’t know Ms. Dustin doesn’t allow Daniel sweets. Ms. Dustin didn’t give
Daniel a hard time, did she? It was my fault. I just felt so sorry for him; that’s why I gave him the treats.”
She subtly pointed the finger at Brittany.
Isaac’s voice was ice, “Ms. Hana, why would my wife make life difficult for her own son?”
His emphasis on ‘my wife’ was like a slap in Hana’s face, and she bit her lip in frustration. “I thought All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
you and Ms. Dustin were divorced?”
As soon as she said it, she regretted it, her impatience getting the better of her.
Isaac’s gaze deepened. “Ms. Hana, my marriage is none of your business. We appreciate your concern
for Daniel, but please refrain from giving him any sweets.”
With that said, Isaac drove off, leaving Hana stewing in the parking lot.
In the classroom, Daniel and Abby were huddled together, whispering secrets.
Hana tried to mask her annoyance as she approached. “Kids, class is about to start. Please take your
seats.”
The two little munchkins nodded and settled down.
After class, Daniel pulled a cupcake from his bag and pushed it towards Abby. “Granny Emily made it.
Try it.”
Abby loved treats and her eyes sparkled as she picked up a piece. She was about to take a bite but
then remembered Daniel hadn’t eaten and offered it to him instead. “You eat.”
“I can’t. Mommy said I’m not allowed to.”
Sweet treats were off-limits.
Mommy said if he was good, he could have a cupcake once a month as a reward! He couldn’t just eat
sweets willy-nilly. If he lost his teeth, he couldn’t marry Abby!
Hana frowned, surprised by Brittany’s strictness. “Daniel, you can have a little treat now and then.
Sweets in moderation won’t hurt a child.”
Why suppress a child’s natural desires?
She could tell Brittany wasn’t the nurturing type-probably only used her child to bolster her own ego.
Daniel usually adored Ms. Hana, but he disagreed this time. “Ms. Hana, I can’t eat it.”
Abby bit into the cupcake, the soft sweetness like a dollop of honey without being overpowering.
