Chapter 862
Chapter 862
‘Jole. I’ve cut you some slack before, out of respect for the times you’ve helped me and Grandma.”
Isaac said, his patience finally wearing thin. “But you shouldn’t keep pushing your luck.”
Joie felt a chill run down her spine under his intense gaze, her whole body trembling “Bro Isaac, it’s not
what you think–I didn’t mean to
She scrambled for a plausible excuse, but nothing convincing came to mind.
Isaac stood up. His hand lifted in a silent command.
The bodyguards entered.
One of them held a knife that glinted ominously in the dim light.
Joie’s legs turned to jelly, and she stumbled backward. “Bro Isaac, what are you doing?”
“Her face-I don’t ever want to see it again.”
At isaac’s command, the bodyguards closed in.
Joie screamed, tears streaming down her face. “Bro Isaac, I’m really sorry, I know I was wrong. It hurts!
Don’t touch me! Bro Isaac!” Her cries echoed throughout the room.
Time passed, and the air was thick with the smell of blood. Joie lay on the floor, too weak to move.
“Get a doctor.”
After Isaac left, Joie’s wounds were treated, but the cuts were deep, certain to leave scars. Upon
discovering this, Joie smashed things in a fit of rage, nearly passing out from the fury she felt.
It suddenly dawned on her that Brittany had intentionally trapped her in Imperial City, pushing Isaac to
act against her. Those incidents alone had led Isaac to mar her face. The thought of Isaac ever finding
out about her attempt to kill Daniel was unbearable, and the consequences seemed too dire to
contemplate.
For the first time, Joie felt regret. If she had known Isaac could go to such lengths, she would never
have targeted Brittany so carelessly.
Meanwhile, Brittany arrived in Bright Town.
After taking care of business with Charles, they hit a local bar.
Charles was particularly fascinated by the bar scene, having had a liberal upbringing in Craneville. He
never turned down an opportunity, regardless of gender, if someone caught his eye.
He ordered a fruit wine for Brittany and fended off would-be suitors, resting his chin on his hand as he NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
looked at her. “What’s your next move?”
The Salter family had deep connections with the institute. She surely wasn’t planning on sticking with
the Salter family, was she?
Brittany sipped her drink. “I still need more proof.”
“Lovesick,” Charles teased.
Brittany didn’t argue with the label. She wasn’t lovesick; she just didn’t want to ruin everything she had.
Seeing that Brittany wasn’t in the mood, Charles headed to the dance floor. Dressed to impress, with a
couple of buttons undone, he turned heads and even had a few bold souls join him in a steamy dance.
Brittany disliked the atmosphere and slipped out quietly, looking for a quiet spot. As she walked past a
partially open VIP room, snippets of conversation spilled out.
“Did you hear Joie was locked up?”
“Isaac’s doing.”
“Brittany’s got some clout, to make Isaac turn on old flames and ruin Joie’s life.”
“I told you before, Joie never stood a chance with Isaac, and you all kept sucking up.”
One of the voices belonged to one of Joie’s former lackeys, now surrounded by new faces.
“Let’s drop the grim talk. Joie dug her own grave.”
“Yeah, she even tried to off Isaac’s kid once. If he ever finds out, she’s done for.”
Brittany’s expression hardened. Without hesitation, she burst into the room. “What did you just say?
Explain!”
The people recognized her and were startled.
The woman who spilled the beans turned pale. “Brit… Brittany?”
How did she end up here?
Brittany grabbed the woman by the collar. “Talk!”
“When…when the child was in the hospital, she sneaked in and almost smothered him with a pillow.”
