Chapter 205
Chapter 205
Marie hurried back with the herbs to tend to Dennis’s wounds. Having nothing else, she chewed the
herbs and applied them to Dennis’s wound, barely stopping the bleeding.
She had become too exhausted to get up anymore. The sky outside had already turned completely
dark, and if she ventured out again, she could not find her way back.
Marie collapsed beside Dennis and, for the first time, drifted off to sleep while holding him.
She did not fear the forest or the wild beasts that lurked within it, nor was she afraid of death. What
terrified her was the thought that this man might never wake up again.
It seemed that Marie could only feel at ease when she held him, feeling his body warmth and the
rhythm of his heartbeat.
The standoff outside the woods continued in a stalemate. Despite the devastating impact of Clayton’s
bomb, it had not killed Driscoll. He and the remaining members. took cover, refusing to communicate,
negotiate, or leave their position.
He had the endurance to wait it out, but Clayton did not. The longer Dennis stayed inside, the greater
the risk became.
Kate inquired, “If Clayton has Dennis with him, why isn’t he using him as leverage for negotiation?”
“Maybe he’s already killed Dennis,” Emory speculated, shrugging his shoulders.
Clayton coldly looked at Emory and stated, “I won’t believe Dennis is dead until I see the body.”
Emory took the initiative and offered, “Given the enemy’s significant losses and limited manpower, I’ll
sneak in tonight to assess the situation. What if Marie and Dennis have already fled during our
distraction? When the time comes, I’ll give a signal, and we can engage directly.”
Clayton nodded, giving his approval to the plan. Luca also raised his hand and said, “I’m going too!”
Kate glanced at him and said, “I remember you had the worst assassination record. I’ll go instead.”

With a stern expression, Clayton declared, “We’ll have two people go, and one person will stay.”
Luca shrugged and said, “Fine, I’ll stay behind. It’s not like we’ll run away or anything.”
Taking advantage of the night, Emory and Kate quietly infiltrated the base. They
meticulously searched every room but found no trace of Dennis and Marie. Could it be
true, as Emory suggested, that they had managed to escape amidst the chaos?
Emory and Kate signaled Clayton, and the rest of the King Organization infiltrated the area. With Emory
and Kate taking the lead, the rest of the team found the mission considerably more manageable.
Clayton’s men were well-trained, resulting in an overwhelmingly good fight. They effortlessly captured
the remaining individuals, but no one spotted a trace of Driscoll,
not Dennis and Marie.
Clayton questioned in exasperation, “Where is Driscoll? Interrogate him! Once you’ve got Driscoll’s
whereabouts, report to me immediately!”
Dennis and Marie were nowhere to be found, and Driscoll was also missing, along with his few elite
subordinates. There was no sign of them, which was not a good sign.
After an exhaustive night of interrogation, Clayton took matters into his own hands, utilizing every
available method until someone finally broke. It was revealed that Driscoll and a few subordinates had
gone into the jungle in pursuit of Marie and Dennis.
With a cold expression, Emory said, “The jungle stretches endlessly; it’s easy to enter but incredibly
difficult to find your way out. And yet, Driscoll dares to lead a pursuit?”
Luca coldly stared at Clayton and said, “The informant claimed that Marie confessed to killing Landon
herself. If it weren’t for us throwing the bomb, Driscoll would have shot. Marie without hesitation. Mr.
Philemon is always suspicious of Marie. If Marie truly had ill intentions toward Mr. Whitney, why would
she put herself in such a dangerous situation?”
Clayton sneered and said, “Perhaps your Ms. Spence wanted to keep Dennis alive.for some purpose,
huh?”
“You!” Luca exclaimed in frustration.
Emory held him back and said, “Forget it; let’s focus on saving them first.”

Kate nodded and examined the blueprint, stating, “Considering Marie and Dennis are injured, they
shouldn’t have gone too far. Since we have more people, let’s search together and ensure we find them
before Driscoll does.”
Clayton quickly divided the individuals into three small squads. Emory and the other two formed their
team, while the fourth team would depart at daybreak to venture into
the forest and locate Marie and Dennis.
At the break of dawn, Marie slowly opened her eyes, still in a hazy state, had noticed Dennis’s body
was dangerously feverish.
Marie stretched out her hand to feel his body temperature and inspected his wound. The wound had
become ulcerated, and the damp environment had caused an infection. Dennis was now running a high
fever, and if they persisted like this, it was only a
matter of time before his life was in grave danger.
She lifted Dennis and called out, but he frowned and struggled to open his eyes. Marie went outside
and made a quick round, digging up a few herbs before quickly returning to attend to Dennis’ wound.
However, she could hear voices outside.
Two men, speaking with accents, were conversing loudly in French. Their discontent was evident as
they believed the wolves had already devoured Marie and Dennis, yet they were ordered to search for
them.
Marie was startled, realizing that if these individuals had found their location, they were closing in on
them. Meanwhile, Dennis, in his current state, was utterly
defenseless.
Marie pulled out her pistol, realizing she had only four bullets left. They had been running so frantically
that there had not been an opportunity to grab an extra
magazine.
However, even with only four bullets remaining, she had to go out and lure these people away. As long
as Dennis was safe, she could hold her ground.
Marie grabbed a handful of dirt from the ground and smeared it on her face, attempting to blend in.
However, as she tried to stand up, her arm was grabbed by someone..
Marie turned her head and faced Dennis, who had been in a coma all day and night.
now!” Suddenly, he opened his eyes and stared intensely at her, saying, “You need to go
Marie suddenly smiled. It had been days since she last washed her face, and now it was
covered in dirt, but her smile remained sweet and lovely.
Dennis’s eyes were piercing as if trying to see through her. He used every ounce of his strength to
grasp Marie, fixating his gaze on her, and spoke urgently, “Marie! Hurry, run!”
If Marie was Rose, if she genuinely possessed great power and was formidable, then Dennis hoped
that without him as a hindrance, Marie could effortlessly depart from this place and lead a truly
reformed and liberated life.
It did not matter who she was as long as she stayed alive.
Marie swiftly retreated, resembling a cat, and nestled before Dennis. Her beautiful, wide eyes blinked
rapidly as she smiled, but tears welled up and rolled down her face, blending with the mud like a little
kitten.
Marie sniffled and uttered, “Dennis, you’re finally awake.”
With a tight grip on Marie’s arm, Dennis exerted so much strength that it felt like he could shatter her NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
bones. He urged, “Get moving, now!”
Marie shook her head, exhibiting stubbornness, and determinedly lifted her head. She said, “I’m not
leaving; I’m not going anywhere.”
Dennis fixed his gaze on her, his expression intense, and uttered, “Marie Spencer!”
Marie leaned down and pecked Dennis on the cheek, saying, “I’m here; wait for me to come back.”
Pushing aside Dennis’s hand, she crouched down and squeezed her way out of the cave.
Not far away, two burly men strolled and chatted while carrying guns, utterly oblivious to the presence
of a cave nearby.
Marie circled and found a dense, towering tree skillfully climbing up its branches.
It had been several days since she had eaten properly and rested adequately. Feeling her strength
waning, she slipped for a moment beneath her feet, nearly losing her balance.
Marie regained her composure and perched on the tree trunk, peering ahead. The two men were
getting closer and closer to the edge of the cave. If she was fortunate, they might walk past without
paying any attention. If luck was not on her side, they might notice the pile of branches at the mouth of
the cave and uncovered the presence of the

badly wounded Dennis.
Marie secured her position and took out her pistol. Once the two men approached the cave, Marie
wasted no time and fired without hesitation. She did not care if their accomplices heard the gunshot.
Tree leaves kept interfering with her line of sight. If only Marie had a Barrett sniper rifle, she would have
had a clear advantage. But all she possessed was a worn-out pistol and a measly four bullets.
While conversing, the two men passed by, seemingly engaged in playful banter. In a moment of jest,
one man pushed his companion, causing him to lose balance and fall into the pile of branches, rolling
straight into the cave.
Marie’s heart nearly stopped as she quickly slid down from the tree and rushed to the mouth of the
cave. The cave was shrouded in darkness, and astonishingly, the two men failed to spot Dennis lurking
in the shadowy corner.
