Eyes On Me
Alpha Rainer takes us to a spacious dining room.
On the way, I take in my surroundings well and I notice that the interior of this packhouse is a real show off of wealth. I even wonder if there are children living here in the packhouse, it is really too neat and orderly.
As we join up, I notice the Alpha sitting right across from me at the table. His eyes still laced on me.
“Tell me, Mercedes. You also seem to be high-ranking in your pack. Who are your parents exactly?” he inquires, genuinely interested. I show a polite smile, his piercing eyes make me really uncomfortable. Not that they get me off balance or insecure, but it’s not normal for a man to look at another’s mate this way. And he must already be aware that I have a mate, Zane’s scent is all over me.
“My father is the Beta of Silver Moon. And I’m the future Luna of Midnight Moon. Alpha Zane is my fated mate. In a few months, I will be eighteen and then I will finally join my mate in his pack”, I answer dreamily. Now the Alpha knows I’m into my mate, maybe he might turn his gaze to Clarita, who is impatiently waiting for his attention.
“That’s a lot. I remember meeting your father once when I was in Silver Moon on business. But I haven’t seen you at that time. Don’t you live in the packhouse then?” he inquires again. This is a fact that also surprises me, in every pack the high rankings live in the packhouse in luxurious apartments.
“No, my father built his own house. He claims he wanted my mother to pick her own design and a little more privacy,” I explain with a laugh.
“Alpha, do you have a mate or a girlfriend? You have such a big pack and I bet the responsibilities are also huge. You need someone where you can go to relax, to come back to yourself”, Clarita asks with an inviting undertone. She blinks coquettishly, her message to the Alpha is clear. Alpha Rainer slowly moves his eyes to her.
“No, not yet,” he answers her. “I’m waiting for the right woman who fits perfectly next to me. If the Moon Goddess doesn’t bring my fated to me soon, I have no choice but to choose my Luna myself. My pack has been waiting too long”.
While chatting, some waitresses come in and serve us. The smell of roast rabbit and lamb makes my mouth water. Eagerly I look at my plate, it’s been hours since I last had anything. When I look up I see that the Alpha is peeking amused at me.
“You are clearly hungry. Go ahead. And if you want some more, just say so. The kitchen always cooks more than we need,” he urges me. And I won’t let him tell me that twice.
I feel his gaze upon me as I dig in. Clarita sits next to me quietly now, I can feel anger consuming her. When I’ve stilled my hunger, I lazily lean back in my chair.
“Thank you, Alpha Rainer. That was a wonderful meal. We were really starving but wanted to be here before dark”, I apologize for my gluttony. A light smile runs on his lips as he nods in approval.
“Let me show you your room. It’s on the Alpha floor. Of course, I don’t have to emphasize that you can stay as long as you want in Shadow Moon,” he says hospitably. “But notify me of your departure in time, so I can save myself a heartache,” he adds meaningfully. I glance furtively at Clarita, who now looks sour ahead. We get up and follow the Alpha out of the dining room to an elevator.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
When the elevator doors close, he moves to stand next to me, way too close for my liking. I don’t want to appear rough by shifting abruptly, so I turn to Clarita.
“After we’ve taken a bath, we can immediately look for Glary and Saphira”, I tell her, slowly sliding toward her. “I’m sure they’ll be surprised to see us.” I now step forward to face Clarita, away from the man’s side. He understands my intent and continues to stare at me.
“Why don’t you wait until tomorrow with that? The training is tough and I’m sure they’ll be dead tired. Just let them rest for tonight and I’ll make sure they’re fit enough to meet you tomorrow,” he offers. This sounds like music to Clarita’s ears. She immediately turns to the man.
“Yes, that’s fantastic. Mercedes is in too much of a hurry to get back to her mate. Once we’ve freshened up, do you think you’ll have time to entertain us?” she asks him seductively, batting her eyes. Clarita is on her own mission. Maybe I should leave her doing her thing and find Saphira myself. That way, these two don’t distract me.
“That’s no problem at all,” replies the Alpha. Crossing my arms on my chest, I wait for the elevator to stop. When I step out first, I find myself in an open hall. The apartments here all have those fantastic high French doors, the decoration here is excellent too. The Alpha walks to one of the doors and beckons us to follow him. He opens it and steps inside.
“This is your residence. I hope everything is comfortable,” he tells us. Behind Clarita, I enter an apartment with a spacious sitting room and a small kitchen. It is obviously intended to accommodate high-ranking visitors.
Following Clarita, we also inspect the only bedroom and bathroom. Everything seems so new, it’s like no one has ever lived here. As if he can read my mind, the Alpha nods.
“This apartment was completely renovated a few weeks ago. That’s why everything looks so new,” he explains. “I’ll leave you alone for a while. As soon as you’re ready, I’ll wait in my office. That’s the same route down and then at the right side. There’s a sign on the door,” he describes.
After a short greeting, he turns and leaves us by ourselves. …
