Chapter 9
“Idiot! I am an idiot if I were to believe her!” Jace shouted as he threw everything on his office table. After confronting Emerald the other night, he went to work in the morning feeling angry.
Emerose showed him his wife’s photo, looking happy with the doctor in a cafe. He didn’t know when it was taken, but according to the eldest Morgan, she was passing by and happened to see it, so she took their photo.
Emerald’s telling him she loved him and only him made him feel uncomfortable, making him believe her. Jace tried his best not to show it because he wanted his wife to suffer and not to be loved by him.
“Hey, man–” Kyle said as soon as he entered Jace’s office. “What happened?” He asked as he roamed his eyes and found his friend sitting on a chair.
“Get out, Kyle,” Jace replied lazily, but his friend didn’t listen. He walked closer to him, took a chair he could sit on, and faced him.
“What’s wrong?” Kyle asked worriedly. “You’re not going to do something like this-” he said, looking around before he continued, “if nothing had happened.”
With that, Jace opened his table’s drawer, took the photo Emerose had handed him the other day, and gave it to his friend. Kyle took it and had a look. “You’re thinking that your wife is cheating on you because of this photo?” Kyle asked.
“I am not thinking; she is cheating on me!” Jace exclaimed, making Kyle shake his head. He had been warning young Higginson to stop the revenge he was doing. He knew that it would not do him any good, especially when he noticed that he had been affected by Emerald’s presence. He knew that somehow, Jace felt something toward his wife but didn’t want to acknowledge it because of his anger.
Kyle saw Emerald and thought she looked innocent and naive. He couldn’t believe that young Morgan was capable of doing what Jace had told him she did to Jack, but he couldn’t do anything about it. As far as he could remember, he, too, read Emerald Morgan’s name on a piece of paper in Jack’s room. “You didn’t do anything to the doctor, right?” Kyle asked worriedly. He didn’t want his friend to do something he might regret.
“You think I won’t?” Jace asked.
“This picture doesn’t look like they have a relationship. Look closer, and you will see that they were just having a casual conversation. Your wife seemed to be happy, yes, but who wouldn’t? She had been suffering from you, and having a friend could lighten her burden.”
“Are you telling me that she chose to go to that man–”
“I am saying that your wife must be tired and want a breather,” Kyle said, stopping him from whatever he was about to say. He didn’t want to add fuel to the fire, just like Emerose did.
“Emerose was worried that that doctor might take advantage of Emerald. She was worried that something might happen to her younger sister. That’s why she decided to show those pictures to me.” Jace said, making Kyle shake his head. He doesn’t know when his friend started to become an idiot because no matter where he looks at it, he can’t find concern or sincerity in the eldest Morgan.
“You need to think things through, Jace.”
“Are you my friend or what?”
“I am your friend; that’s why I am reminding you that what you are doing to your wife is wrong.”
“And what about what she did to my brother? Do you think it was right?” Jace asked angrily. He couldn’t believe that his friend was siding with his wife. He thought he understood.
“I was only reminding you. Vengeance will not do you any good. We should focus on how we are going to persuade your brother to undergo surgery.” Kyle said, hoping his friend would understand.
“Just leave me alone if you have nothing good to say.” Jace dismissed him. Kyle left his office, shaking his head in disbelief.
Jace was left alone, his thoughts still on his wife. He remembered how Emerald looked when he almost choked her the other night out of anger. He was angry because she lied about being with the doctor when he had proof that she was with Dr. Sanders. He didn’t like the idea of his wife being with some guy because he felt something towards the young Morgan the moment he saw her. He remember the day he first saw her.
Even though she wore baggy clothes, he couldn’t keep his eyes off Emerald. She had her head down, hiding her face all the time. But Jace’s anger rose after knowing she was the same woman who had hurt his brother. Young Higginson sighed and took his phone before he dialed a number. “Yes, sir.” the man answered.
“Keep tabs on my wife. I want to know where she goes and who she meets or is with every time she leaves the mansion,” he answered.
“Copy, sir.” the man replied.
Being wealthy, Jace has his security. He has guards, and his right-hand man, Enzo, also drives for him. Young Higginson trusts his right-hand man with everything regarding non-business or company-related issues.
Meanwhile, Emerald was in the mansion doing her daily chores. Since she knew that her husband would not be home until dinner, she found time to talk to her online friend and keep up with the latest online games. She loves to develop apps and online games and wants to have her own company in the future.
But she started to wonder whether she would be able to accomplish that since she was in a situation where she thought she would never get out. She knew she loved Jace and wanted to be with him for the rest of her life. But because of the constant torment that her husband and family were giving her, the love that she had for them was slowly fading.
“How are you, M?” Creep, her friend, asked.
“Fine, I guess.”
“You guess?” he asked. Then Emerald started telling him about what was going on in her life. She didn’t want to involve anyone but wanted to release some of her sorrow. She knew her friend wouldn’t be able to help, but knowing he was there to listen was enough for her to calm herself and face another day. “If you wanted to leave and didn’t want to be found, just tell me, and I will help you,” said Creep before they ended their conversation. Emerald didn’t know why she made a mental note to remember what he said.NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
Deep inside, young Morgan knew that she wouldn’t be able to leave Jace unless her nanny got better. But judging Lucy’s current condition, Emerald wondered if that would ever happen. She knew she loved her husband so much, but she didn’t know either until when she could take the pain he was giving her.
All her life, Emerald never wanted to have a normal family life. A family she will take care of and love and vice versa. She was tired of the unrequited love everyone was giving her, and if she were not afraid of God, she would have taken her own life.
Months had passed, and it was her birthday. She was excited, thinking she had a husband whom she could share it with. But when she remembered how Jace was treating her, her heart sank in disappointment. Still, she looked forward to the day, hoping her husband would be nice to her, even for a day. Hoping against hope, young Morgan looked forward to it, unaware of the pain that would welcome her.
