Chapter 68
Emerald and Jace went to the hotel where Mr. Landers and Mr. Ferguson stayed. They talked to them about what happened in the amusement park while Ace played in one of the bedrooms with his nanny while waiting for them. “Then we have to give the boy extra protection; we can’t just let him go with his nanny alone even if someone is looking after them from afar,” said Mr. Landers, worried for his grandson all over his face. Emerald and Jace told him and Mr. Ferguson about what happened at the amusement park the following day.
“I already thought about it and asked my investigator to look for a reliable man to become Ace’s bodyguard,” Jace replied.
“Give my great-grandchild the best protection he could get, son. Make whoever he was trying to go against us regret his or their plan. Let them know who they are against.” Mr. Ferguson added, looking at Jace. He is not the type to flaunt his wealth, but after his daughter left and hid, he made sure to spend no matter how much just to find her. He is not going to hesitate to do the same for the safety of his great-grandson and granddaughter, whom he has just met.
“Being my son alone, no one should try to do anything to harm him, Grandpa,” Jace replied, making old Ferguson nod. Now that the three wealthy men have joined their forces, Ace and Emerald’s security has tripled.
“Dad, Grandpa.” Emerald said, “Liam is going to come here too. He said he had something important to tell us,” she added.
Jace looks at his wife with a creased forehead. He had no idea that Liam had called or they had talked to her to get her to know about his arrival. Emerald noticed it, and she couldn’t help but smile, “He called when you were taking a bath, and I didn’t tell you about it because he only told me that it’s important for us to talk. Since you’re coming with me, you’ll be able to know it as well.”
“Still, I want to know everything when it comes to that bas” Jace replied but stopped when he saw how young Morgan looked at him, which made Mr. Landers and Mr. Ferguson laugh.
“Don’t be too jealous; I can tell that she loves you.” Mr. Landers couldn’t help but assure his son-in-law. Although he wasn’t happy about what happened in their past, he also wanted his daughter, Emerald, to be happy, and he was sure that she was because of young Higginson’s presence in her life.
“I’m sorry, Dad. I just couldn’t help it.”
“Get jealous all you want,” Emerald said, smirking. Jace, looking at her, sighed heavily and accepted that he couldn’t separate Liam from his wife’s life, and he had to trust his wife.
After a few more minutes, the doorbell rang, and Mr. Ferguson’s assistant, Alfred, answered. “Hi, M.” Liam greeted as he saw them after the assistant led him to where the family was. “Good day, Mr. Ferguson, Mr. Landers, Jace,” he added after he received a nod and smile from Emerald.
“Hello, son. Come and sit with us.” Mr. Ferguson replied politely. Although he likes Jace for his granddaughter, he also knows that Liam did everything he could to support Emerald and Ace, so he is grateful to him.
“Thank you, Mr. Ferguson,” Liam replied and took the vacant seat beside Emerald while Jace followed him with his gaze. “Is there a problem, Mr. Higginson?” Liam asked.
“Nothing, Liam,” Emerald replied, making Jace roll his eyes. “He’s just jealous of you,” she added. Young Higginson’s eyes widened when he heard Liam’s reply.
“He should be because I was only waiting for him to make a mistake, and I am going to take you and Ace away.”
“What the!” Jace exclaimed, making Emerald and Liam laugh hard. He didn’t like it. He didn’t like that his wife was close to another man, even if he knew he was partly to blame.
Emerald, on the other hand, was happy to see how her friend had moved on. Yes, she knew he had let her go. Although she could still feel that he had feelings for her, he understood that it wasn’t easy to feel that way anymore because she felt the same towards Jace.
“You should stop teasing him, Liam.” Young Morgan said, but still laughing.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
“He’s not fun to be with,” Liam complained while Mr. Landers and Mr. Ferguson were shaking their heads, feeling sorry for Jace, who already looked pissed.
“Enough of that now,” Old Ferguson said afterward. He didn’t want Jace to think that he was siding with Liam and that they had important things to discuss, just as Emerald had told them earlier.
“Alright,” Liam agreed and looked at everyone before he continued. “Remember the apartment you stayed at in Italy?”
“What about it?” Emerald asks after she nods.
“Susane called and informed me that she received a text message from here.”
“And?”
“It’s from Dr. Sanders.” Emerald creases her forehead. She knew Dr. Sanders because he helped her leave the country and was her friend.
“Did something happen to him? Is it why I can’t get to him as well?” Emerald asks continuously.
“I went to his home and found out from his family that they had not seen him personally for more than five years, but they could sometimes talk to him through a video call.”
“As in?” Liam nodded.
“Why did you visit his family when the landlord just received a message from him? Is it unusual for him to do that? I mean, I remember him.” Jace asked, which Mr. Landers and Mr. Ferguson were also curious to know.
“Because the message says he’s with her nanny,” Liam answered.
“What?” everyone exclaimed. Especially Mr. Landers and Mr. Ferguson.
“Tell us everything, Liam,” the old Ferguson said impatiently, and the man nodded and continued.
“The message said he didn’t know where to contact Emerald. It was addressed to you, M, and he wasn’t sure if you could receive it.”
“Then where are they?”
“He didn’t say so because the message was not finished. I think he just tried to send it, or he was in a position where he couldn’t do that.”
“Since he’s with your mother, he must be held captive too because he could do anything but can’t,” Jace said.
“What do you mean?” asked Emerald worriedly.
“I think they are together. Since your mother was not in good condition when she disappeared, I had a feeling that he was there to make sure that she was fine.” Jace replied.
“I agree.” Liam chimed in. “So, at this time, we can assume that Ms. Ember is safe.”
“I need to talk to my landlord.” Emerald insisted.
“I already talked to her, and she promised to tell us everything if another message came to her.” Emerald sighed heavily and in relief. She felt relieved knowing Ember was still alive. But she’s still worried that something might happen to her since she’s not healthy, even though she knew that Dr. Sanders was there to take care of her.
“Jace, Liam, please do everything you can to find my daughter.” Mr. Ferguson said pleadingly. Emerald got up and sat beside her grandfather before she hugged him. She knew how happy he was when he met Ace, and now, knowing that there’s a big possibility that Ember is fine, he has mixed emotions about the situation, but worry is evident on his face.
“Uncle Dean, we will find Ember no matter what.” Mr. Landers said.
“Yes, Grandpa, we will do everything we can. We have many friends who are willing to help us, so don’t worry too much,” Emerald said to calm her grandfather.
“I just want to see her, dear.” Mr. Ferguson replied, crying.
“Me too, Grandpa., and so did my father and, of course, Ace. So we have to be strong now and be patient.” Old Ferguson nodded in agreement. He didn’t want to become a burden to anyone, so he promised himself to be at his wits so when the time came that he was needed, he would be able to give his full support.
Their conversation ended, and after they had dinner, Emerald, Jace, and Ace went home, and so did Liam, who is now staying in a hotel not too far from where Mr. Landers and Mr. Ferguson were staying. Although the two men have their people looking after them, Emerald would want her friend to be near them in case they needed him.
The following day, Emerald and Jace went to their respective offices after they sent their son to school. They made sure to do that regularly as part of their bonding as a family.
“M, you need to go to the ACE Family Grocer main office. Elise needs you there.” Creep said as he entered her office.
“Why? Did something happen?”
“She just wants to discuss the expansion with you. She wanted you to look at the new location Daryl had suggested.”
“I see, okay,” she replied and got up from her seat after cleaning up her table. She knew she couldn’t let the expansion wait and believed it was the best time to do it.
“I’ll take care of everything here,” Creep said as she started walking out of her office and to the elevator. Emerald believes in her friends, especially Creep and Daryl, that they could do well even if she’s not around. That’s why she was confident about leaving any time.
“I’m going to the grocery main office; Elise needs me there,” she said after calling Jace. He was supposed to fetch her later after work.
“Who’s going to come with you?” young Higginson asked.
“I’ll go there alone. Daryl will be staying to do my other duties.”
“Wait for me, and I’ll go get you and send you there.”
“No need. I just called to let you know. I can manage, Jace.”
“But-”
“No more buts. We can’t always be together; we have work to do.”
“Alright, just make sure to call me when you arrive.”
“Okay, see you later,” Emerald replied before she ended the call and went out of the building to wait for the Uber she had booked, unaware of the danger she would be facing.
