Chapter 63
“Love, when are you going to talk to me?” Emerson asked. After he left their rented apartment, he went to the next city where Lucy was. It was a common routine for him. Even when they were staying in their old mansion, he always gave time to go and see his beloved.
“Love, please, talk to me. Are you still mad at me for not standing up for our daughter? Believe me; I’m only doing that to protect her from Merly. She’ll do everything to hurt her if she finds out I cared for our dear Emerald.” Emerson continued talking to Ember but didn’t get any reply.
Then he heard a knock on the door, so he got up from his seat and opened it. “What is it? Didn’t I tell you not to disturb me whenever I’m with my wife?”
“I’m sorry, sir, but the house called, and Madam wants to talk to you.”
“That bitch, what is it this time?”
“I have no idea, sir.” Emerson sighed and went out of the room. But he made sure to lock the door before he went to his mini office, unaware that Ember had made a sudden movement.
“What is it?” he asked.
“Boss, I already gathered some young women who are willing to do frenzy sex.” It was the voice of a woman he knew, and he smiled at the news.
“Good, make sure to keep them clean and fresh all the time. I didn’t want our clients to complain about them being dirty, did you get me?”
“Yes, boss. We also have additional patrons, so the business is doing really well.”
“How about the police? Are you taking good care of them as well?”
“Of course, boss, I even give them bonuses whenever we hit the jackpot.”
“Alright, just make sure not to give too much. I will send someone for an audit, and I want all your transactions to be transparent. Do you understand?”
“Of course, boss.” The woman replied, and after a few more reminders, Emerson ended the call. He leaned back in his office chairs before a wicked smile appeared, and the memories of how he had managed to live the way he was now flashed back into his mind.
It was when he needed an investor for his fluctuating business income, and Jace Higginson came into the picture. He didn’t invest all of Higginson’s money in his grocery stores. Instead, he collaborated with a prostitute he met and put up their bar.
Because of the extra service that his bar offers to men and women, it grew bigger and was now able to bribe government officials for protection. His latest business innovation is the Red House, which was being managed by the prostitute he met, who is now called Madam Z.
Emerson concentrated on the business for the last five years while Merly and Emerose were unaware of it. With their business repeatedly failing, old Morgan thought it wasn’t enough to rely on it, so he diverted to another business and was shocked about the result.
In his bar and brothel, no one knew about him as the owner except Madam Z, who was always on the front. Emerson would go there as a customer, and Madam Z would offer him all their new female entertainers, making everyone think that he was a super VIP.
Just two weeks ago, Madam Z called him asking for his opinion about the harem service. Many of their male customers were asking for a threesome or foursome with their entertainers. Thinking about the profit they could get, Emerson agreed immediately.
Emerson didn’t care whether he could get the grocery stores back because of his new business, which he didn’t want his family to find out about. He was so selfish that he wanted all his earnings for himself, not thinking that his wife and daughter were doing everything they could to help.
After thinking about everything that had happened for the last five years, he returned to the room where Ember was. On his way, he stumbles upon the doctor. “Mr. Morgan,” he greeted.
“Dr. Sanders, what brings you here?” he asked. “I don’t think you have business with my wife.”
“Mr. Morgan, did you forget that I need to put an IV on Ms. Lucy?” the doctor replied, reminding Emerson.
“When is she going to wake up, Dr. Sanders? You had been looking after her for years, and she still hasn’t improved!” Emerson shouted. “You better do something about her condition because I am tired and sick of talking to her and getting no reply, or I will ruin your career.”
Dr. Sanders, who had been friends with Emerald, decided to do what Emerson wanted to help his friend. But he doesn’t know that he won’t be able to do anything after he comes with Mr. Morgan because he never lets him leave the house unguarded. What he could only do was to make sure that Ember was doing fine.
Emerson opened the room and let Dr. Sanders check on Ember, who noticed something but didn’t say anything to the old man and continued what he was doing. “You can leave if you’re done.”
“Okay, sir.” Dr. Sanders left the room, hoping Ember would be able to keep her condition hidden. He began thinking about how he would be able to talk to her without Emerson knowing since he was not allowed to get in the room without him or anyone from old Morgan’s trusted men.
He couldn’t even call Emerald because he had no idea where she was now after Emerson took and brought him into the house to care for Ember. His family is not looking for him because after Old Morgan took him, he called Dr. Sanders and told them he was on a medical mission. He called them from time to time through one of the men who were looking after him and Ember. He decided to stay to look after Emerald’s nanny, which he thought was more important.
In the room, Emerson was staring at Ember, who was still sleeping. “You’ve been like that for years; how come you’re still not awake, my Love?” he asked, gently caressing her cheek.
“I’m missing you so much; I promise to take care of you and our daughter; just wake up now.” he continued. But just like before, he didn’t receive any response from Ember. He sighed heavily before he got up and decided to leave. He needed to return to their house if he didn’t want his wife and daughter to suspect anything.
‘As much as possible, I need to keep everything hidden from them; they will only ask for money if they knew about my business, which I didn’t want to happen,’ he thought while driving his car on his way home.
“Where the hell have you been?” Merly shouted as soon as Emerson entered their rented apartment, who instantly rolled his eyes in annoyance.
“Didn’t you say to do something about our situation?” he asked angrily.
“And what have you done so far? Is it fruitful?”
“Are you kidding me? Did you think just because I went out to talk to some people and ask for help, they would lend their helping hands just like that?”
“Then nothing happened?” Mrs. Morgan asked just as Emerose arrived.
“Are you two still fighting?” she asked, shaking her head. Emerose was feeling sore, so she wanted to rest after a good meal, but seeing her parents fighting again, she decided to go to her bedroom instead.
“Did you see that? You were supposed to put food on our table, and yet you came home empty-handed.”
“And what about you? What have you done so far for this family besides spending money with your stupid daughter?”This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
“What did you just say? Are you blaming me now? You should be the one to blame!” Merly rebutted.
“And why would I be to blame? Tell me!”
“If you had not brought those jinxes into our house, things would have been different. You are the one who destroys our life!” Emerose hears everything, so she wonders what her mother is talking about. They were living in a bungalow-style apartment, so her room was just next to the living room.
“They are not jinxes! You’re the jinx in my life! Did you think I didn’t know about your relationship with other men years ago?” Merly’s eyes widened. She couldn’t believe that her husband had known about it ever since and was not saying anything. “Who knows? Until now, you’re still sleeping with different men just like your daughter!”
“How dare you!” Merly said angrily before she slapped Emerson. It was so hard that his face turned, making him ball his fist, wanting to give his wife a beating. “If you didn’t get that bitch Lucy pregnant, make me your bastard’s mother, and make them live with us; this should not have happened to us!”
“What!” Emerose went out of her bedroom, shocked. “Emerald is Dad’s bastard?” she asked.
“Yes! I can’t hold it anymore. You should know the truth. Your father raped Lucy and got her pregnant with Emerald. For that bitch not to put your father in jail, she requested to keep her and that jinx in our family.”
Emerose was in disbelief. She never thought that the little sister she grew up with and was envious of was a bastard. Her dad’s bastard. She balled her fist in frustration while glaring at her father, who was also looking at her. Out of anger, she ran out of their house, undecided about where she would go.
