Chapter 47
In the Higginson mansion, Jace was thinking about his wife. All day, his thoughts were on young Morgan and what she was doing. The problem in her company bothers him as well, and he wants to help and comfort her and be the person who will stay on her side at her most difficult time. To prevent him from going crazy, he decides to go and see his wife.
“Son, can you sleep with your grannies for tonight?” Jace asked. The urge to see his wife became evident, and he thought he would never get rest if he didn’t see her and assured her that she was fine.
“Alright, Dad. But let me give you this.” the boy replied and got off the bed to get his bag. Ace took some keys and handed them to his father. “The guards knew you, so they would let you in, but the house is locked during this time.”
Jace smiled at his son before he took the keys. He also got up from his bed and carried little Ace to bring him to his parents’ bedroom.
“Are you going to leave?” Jessica asked his son.
“I want to check on Emerald.” Young Morgan replied. His parents nodded, and Ace kissed him goodbye before he left.
Meanwhile, Emerald is in the kitchen to drink a glass of milk. She couldn’t sleep thinking about what she had discovered from Detective Santos. Worry for her nanny was eating her, and even if she didn’t want to think about the worst, she couldn’t help but feel anxious for Lucy’s safety.
“M.” she turned when she heard Liam. “I’m here and going to do everything I can to find your nanny,” he added.
Emerald smiled bitterly. She knew that he was sincere, but knowing how dangerous it had become, she started to worry about him as well. “I just can’t help but think about you too. If what you said was true, then your life will be in danger.”
“I can take care of myself, M.”
“I know, and that made me feel guilty. Just because I know who you are and what you can do, I rely on you so much here.”
“You’re not; I want to do this too. You know what kind of person I am regarding cases and crimes.” Liam said, trying to wash away the guilt that Emerald was feeling.
“Still, I feel like I am the one who is putting your life in danger to save mine.”
“It’s nothing like that. It’s also part of my job. Catching bad people is what I was paid for by my government, right?” he asked, smiling while scratching the back of his head. Emerald smiled at him after she sighed heavily.
“I’m really thankful to God that I have you as my friend,” she said sincerely. Liam, after hearing that, sighed deeply. For him, Emerald is more than a friend. He likes her, and he is willing to risk his life for her and her happiness.
Liam pulled Emerald closer to him before hugging her. Young Morgan did the same and let herself be engulfed in the safety of his arms as tears started to run down her cheeks. ‘I’ll do everything in my power to protect you, M., ‘ he thought as he gently caressed her back.
On his way to Emerald’s house, Jace couldn’t help but think about what she was doing. He thought that because of her company’s problem, she wouldn’t be able to sleep. It was 9 o’clock when he arrived, and just like Ace said, the guard let him in.
Young Higginson turned off the engine, exited his car, and rushed to the entrance door. He can’t wait to see his wife even though he already knows she will only shout at him.
The living room was dim, and Jace noticed the light coming out of the kitchen. He thought someone from the maids was still awake, so he went there to ask about Emerald. But he didn’t expect the scene he would witness as soon as he reached the kitchen. Liam had his back on him there as he hugged Emerald, and her hands wrapped around his waist.
“Fuck!” he exclaimed, making the two look at him in surprise. Before Liam and Emerald could react, Jace rushed to the man before giving him a hard punch.
“Jace!” Emerald shouted to stop him, but Liam fought back and punched Jace. “Stop it!” Young Morgan continued shouting, but the two men didn’t listen. Another punch came, and Jace found himself on the floor. Emerald pulled Liam away.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Young Higginson didn’t like it even more because he wanted Emerald to be on his side. Because of jealousy, he only saw red and got up, only to land a hit on Liam, who also went down. Jace didn’t give him a chance to get up and joined him on the floor with him on top of Emerald’s friend and continued punching him.
“Stop it, Jace!” Emerald shouted and pulled him away from Liam, but he shoved her before he continued punching the man. The noise reached the maids and Daryl, for which young Morgan was thankful because her friend managed to pull her husband away from Liam.
“How did you get in?” Emerald asked angrily when they finally separated the two. Daryl was holding Jace while she held on to Liam.
“Does it matter? I saw you two hugging just now. Tell me, when did he arrive, and what have you been doing all this time that Ace is not here?” Jace asked angrily.
“Why do you care? Who are you to question whatever I was doing?” Emerald shouted. She was worried about Jace because Liam is well built, and with his work, he’s also used to fighting. But seeing her friend’s face, he couldn’t help but pity him because he took almost every hit Jace gave him.
“We’re still married, Emerald, and you are still mine. You are not supposed to get intimate with any man other than me.” Jace replied.
“Being married to you doesn’t mean that I will not see another man, Jace. Technically, we’re separated. You should have filed that divorce that you made me sign years ago, and we won’t have any problems now.”
“I didn’t do it before, so I will not do it now and will never do it in the future. You are stuck with me for the rest of your life. You are mine and only mine. No one can take you away from me, even that bastard.”
“Mr. Higginson, I think you miss”
“Stop it, Daryl. Let him think whatever he wants to think.” Emerald told her friend, who was about to explain to him the reason why Liam had to stay. She didn’t want Jace to think she was being defensive or trying to explain her side.
