Chapter 12
“Jace, you look happy,” Kyle commented.
“Of course, Jack can see now. Thanks to Eunice, who persuaded him to undergo surgery months ago. Mom said they’ll be in the hospital next week for a check-up just to make sure that everything is okay.”
“Wow, that’s really good news.” Kyle replied, “Why didn’t you tell me about his surgery? I should have visited him.”Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“He didn’t want anyone to know, fearing that he might disappoint us. He was worried the surgery wouldn’t be a success.”
“And yet it was.”
“Indeed,” Jace replied happily.
“So you don’t have to continue your revenge, right? Jack is okay now, and you are already married to Emerald. I don’t see any reason for you to continuously hurt her.” Jace couldn’t talk. He was thinking about whether it was possible. Although he knew he felt something towards his wife, now that his brother could see, he was worried that his brother might get mad at him if Jack found out he married his ex.
“I don’t think so.” Young Higginson replied, “Since Jack is finally okay, I think I have to give Emerald the final blow.” He added.
“What do you mean?” Kyle asked, confused. For him, revenge is not necessary anymore. He also felt that his friend had feelings for Emerald; he just didn’t want to admit it.
“I will have them face together and then divorce on our wedding anniversary.”
“That’s cruel,” Kyle replied. He met Emerald several times, and she was nice and kind. He couldn’t see the kind of person Jace was seeing her.
“She was cruel to Jack as well. At least I didn’t throw her in the road that will cause her to tie on a wheelchair and lose her eyesight, just like what happened to Jack.”
Kyle didn’t say anymore because he knew that no matter how much he tried to reason with Jace, he would never listen to him.
Meanwhile, Emerald was in the hospital to visit her nanny. Although hurt, she ensures that she looks happy, so she doesn’t need to worry about Dr. Sanders or Lucy.
As she entered the hospital, she went straight to the elevator and accidentally bumped into a man pushing a wheelchair. “I’m sorry,” she said with her head down.
“It’s alright,” the man replied. He continued pushing the wheelchair out of the hospital while Emerald walked to the elevator.
“Nanny!” She greeted happily as soon as she opened the hospital room. But to her surprise, there was no one on the bed. “Nanny?” she called and went to the bathroom to check if Lucy was there. Although she knew that she was in a coma and not capable of walking, she still hoped that it was the case.
With a worried heart, she went to the nurse station and asked, “Does my nanny go to a laboratory or something? She’s not in her room.”
“Which room, Miss?” the nurse replied, asking.
“Room 605.”
“Oh, Ms. Lucy. No, she was supposed to be there.” the nurse replied and started to walk to the room.
“She’s not here; tell me where she is,” Emerald said worriedly.
“She was just here; I even gave her medicine a while ago.” The nurse replied, scared.
‘No, where are you, nanny?’ Emerald asked herself. The nurse reported the incident to their security and even checked the CCTV. Still, they didn’t see anyone entering and leaving the room.
“Emerald,” Dr. Sanders called her. As soon as he heard about what had happened, he went to see her.
“Dr. Sanders,” Emerald said, crying as she rushed and hugged him. Nanny is missing, and I had no idea where and how she was.
“Shh.. Don’t worry, we will find her.” the doctor said while gently tapping her back.
Emerald went home thinking and worrying about her nanny. She couldn’t think of anyone who would take her. As far as she knew, Lucy had no family. She was an orphan, so she devoted herself to caring for Emerald.
While in the kitchen, Emerald couldn’t get her nanny off her mind. ‘Does Jace decide to take her out of the hospital? Why would he do that?’ she asked herself. ‘No, he will never do that. When I asked him about the medical bills, he ensured he wouldn’t stop unless I made him angry. I never did anything wrong, so there’s no reason for him to hurt my nanny.’
Emerald thought Jace didn’t need to take Lucy out of the hospital if he didn’t want to pay his bills. All he had to do was stop paying, and it’s done. ‘No, he’s not the one behind it. Could it be?’
With that thought, she rushed out of the mansion and went to her parents. ‘They are the only ones who would do such a thing since they didn’t like my nanny.’
When Emerald arrived, Emerson and his family were in the living room, and she was shocked to see Jace there. “Why are you here?” her father asked.
“Where’s my nanny?” she asked, looking straight into her father’s eyes, ignoring the look her husband was giving her. She had no time for him because what was important for her was to find her nanny.
“How would I know where she was? Isn’t she in the hospital?” Merly asked angrily.
“Mom, Dad, please stop being so angry with Emerald. You know how much she loves Lucy.” Emerose told their parents as though she was concerned for her little sister. But deep inside, she wanted her parents to say more. “Little sister, have a seat and tell me what happened. What’s wrong with Lucy?” she asked in a worried tone.
“Don’t act like you care, Emerose. I know you planned this-you, Dad, and Mom. You didn’t like my nanny, so you did what you did.” Emerald replied angrily, making Emerose take the chance to act hurt.
“Please don’t get mad at me, Emerald. I just want to try and help.”
“Tell me where my nanny is; only then will I believe you want to help.”
“But we have no idea about where she is. Who knows, maybe she left with another man. The last time I saw her was when she met two men. She even introduces you to them.” Emerose replied, but young Morgan had no idea what she was talking about. Emerald doesn’t remember the time when Lucy introduced her to anyone. Like her, her nanny is not the kind of person who would talk to anyone.
“I don’t know what you are talking about. Just tell me where you hide my nanny,” Emerald asked hysterically, trembling in anger. Still, Emerose acted like she had nothing to do with anything.
“Shut up, Emerald. We don’t have any idea about what you are talking about. I already told you that I don’t care about you or your nanny; why would I waste my time taking her out of the hospital and bringing her somewhere?”
“Dad, please. Nanny is all I have.” Emerald begs, crying.
Jace was just listening to them, and his heart ached for his wife’s appearance. But he hardened his heart and got up from his seat. “Leave now, Emerald. Don’t embarrass me here.”
“No, they did something to my nanny. She won’t be able to leave the hospital because she is still unconscious, and she will never leave me without a word.” Emerald replied, having her head down. Then she thought of something, making her look at her husband. “Are you the one responsible for her disappearance? Is it because you’re spending too much on her? Please give her back to me, and I am going to pay no matter how much you paid for her medical bills.” she added, pleading.
“Stop it, Emerald!” Jace shouted. “Have you gone crazy? What will it do to me if I do that? Just go home now!”
Young Morgan felt depressed. She felt like the world was against her for taking the only person who cared and loved her away. With slumped shoulders, she turned her back towards the door but remembered something, “Are you not going to go home with me?” she asked,
“Why would I want to be in the same car as you?” Jace asked with a stoic face. Although he wanted to carry his wife away from the Morgan mansion, he succumbed to his feelings and hurt her even more when he let Emerose cling her arms around his, saying,
“Jace, don’t be like that to my little sister. She’s vulnerable because of her missing nanny.” That scene made Emerald decide to continue her plan. Although she needed to look for her nanny, she thought she’d do that once she was ready and capable. She knew she would never stop looking for Lucy until she found her.
With a heavy heart, young Morgan turned her back again and started walking out of their mansion.
