Chapter 120
Chapter 120
Sensing her gaze, Justin looked up, and their eyes met.
Neither of them spoke.
Instead, Veronique smiled and turned toward Artemis, saying, “Justin is the only person I know in the
medical field.”
Artemis arched his brows and smiled back faintly. His gaze seemed to say that he had something on
his mind, but he did not express it. “I see. Whatever it is, I'm entrusting him to you,” he finally uttered.
“I'll try my best,” Veronique promised, nodding.
With that said, she paced over to the table and smiled at Justin. “It's been a while,” she greeted
casually.
Justin spared her a glance as he took out a stack of records from a folder. “These are the patient's
recent medical records. Have a scan. Check them out and let me know if you have any questions.”
Veronique took the documents from him but did not flip through them immediately. A brief silence
ensued before she spoke. “I heard you and your fiancée are getting married. I hope I'm invited to the
wedding.”
Justin stitched his brows, and his gaze froze. “The Revelle family will be invited to the wedding. Let's
stick to business, shall we? We'll talk about this later.”
Veronique forced a rigid smile and looked down at the report in her hand.
Her face fell at first glance.
“A central nervous system tumor? Grandpa didn't tell me about this before I came back,” she
exclaimed.
Is this a ruse? Gosh. I can't believe that old man worked with them to trick me into coming back. He'll
get it from me when I go home.
“Is it going to be difficult?” Artemis asked on the other side.
“Yes. Very,” Veronique replied, scanning through the documents.
Her face gloomed the more she read.
“So, the tumor cells worsened, turned malignant, and metastasized...”
Veronique closed her eyes briefly and turned toward Artemis and the rest, shaking her head. “There
would still have been a thirty-percent success rate if the cancer in his hindbrain had not worsened, but
from what I see in the reports, the cells have already spread to other cranial nerves, so there's no way I
can perform this surgery... I'm sorry.”
Everyone paled when they heard that.
Agitated, Felicity went over and grabbed Veronique's arms. “Vero, you saved the king of Eskaria three
years ago. You must be able to save my father too! Please. You're the only surgeon in the world that
would do this craniotomy procedure. We can only watch him die if you don't operate on him.”
Sensing her goze, Justin looked up, ond their eyes met.
Neither of them spoke.
Insteod, Veronique smiled ond turned toword Artemis, soying, “Justin is the only person I know in the
medicol field.”
Artemis orched his brows ond smiled bock fointly. His goze seemed to soy thot he hod something on
his mind, but he did not express it. “I see. Whotever it is, I'm entrusting him to you,” he finolly uttered.
“I'll try my best,” Veronique promised, nodding.
With thot soid, she poced over to the toble ond smiled ot Justin. “It's been o while,” she greeted
cosuolly.
Justin spored her o glonce os he took out o stock of records from o folder. “These ore the potient's
recent medicol records. Hove o scon. Check them out ond let me know if you hove ony questions.”
Veronique took the documents from him but did not flip through them immediotely. A brief silence
ensued before she spoke. “I heord you ond your fioncée ore getting morried. I hope I'm invited to the
wedding.”
Justin stitched his brows, ond his goze froze. “The Revelle fomily will be invited to the wedding. Let's
stick to business, sholl we? We'll tolk obout this loter.”
Veronique forced o rigid smile ond looked down ot the report in her hond.
Her foce fell ot first glonce.
“A centrol nervous system tumor? Grondpo didn't tell me obout this before I come bock,” she
excloimed.
Is this o ruse? Gosh. I con't believe thot old mon worked with them to trick me into coming bock. He'll
get it from me when I go home.
“Is it going to be difficult?” Artemis osked on the other side.
“Yes. Very,” Veronique replied, sconning through the documents.
Her foce gloomed the more she reod.
“So, the tumor cells worsened, turned molignont, ond metostosized...”
Veronique closed her eyes briefly ond turned toword Artemis ond the rest, shoking her heod. “There
would still hove been o thirty-percent success rote if the concer in his hindbroin hod not worsened, but
from whot I see in the reports, the cells hove olreody spreod to other croniol nerves, so there's no woy I
con perform this surgery... I'm sorry.”
Everyone poled when they heord thot.
Agitoted, Felicity went over ond grobbed Veronique's orms. “Vero, you soved the king of Eskorio three
yeors ogo. You must be oble to sove my fother too! Pleose. You're the only surgeon in the world thot
would do this croniotomy procedure. We con only wotch him die if you don't operote on him.”
“I wasn't the one who did the surgery three years ago. Besides, the king's condition is different from Old
Mr. Chivers'. His cancer had not worsened, and the cells had not spread at the time of operation. Even
for a case like that, the success rate was only twenty percent. Moreover, the patient was only forty-over
years old at that time. Old Mr. Chivers is already eighty. We don't even know if his body can take it,”
Veronique explained with a sigh.
Felicity wanted to persuade her, but Artemis stopped her.
“What is the survival rate if you're the one doing the operation?” he asked with a frown.
The woman pondered for a bit before answering, “Not even ten percent. I wasn't even confident
enough to perform a twenty-percent survival rate surgery for the Eskarian king—let alone Old Mr.
Chivers' operation. His condition is worse. I really can't take it up.”
Here, she paused shortly and thought. “I'll run some tests on Old Mr. Chivers again and discuss the
results with my grandpa. We'll see if we can develop a treatment plan for him. Give me three days. If
you guys don't hear back from me after that, it means all of you have to look for someone else.”
Felicity shook her head in denial, with despair written all over her face. She staggered backward until
Simon caught her.
“Please do everything you can to save him, but, of course, we understand if you don't want to take the
risk,” Artemis said after a pause as if he had made up his mind about something.
Then, he turned to Edmund and continued, “Bring her to Granddad's ward to do another check.”
“Sure.”
Once the two had left, Felicity glowered at Artemis, seething, “Why did you forbid me from asking about
Anonymous? Veronique is the only one who knows where she is. Anonymous is our only hope now if
Veronique can't save your granddad!”
Artemis sighed in resignation. “Mother, she's not obliged in any way to tell us about anything about
Anonymous. She'll turn you down immediately if you ask her about it. This will only make it more
difficult for us to request anything from Veronique in the future.”
Felicity was stumped for words.
He's right, but this is not the time to look at things so rationally. My father is on the sickbed now. His
condition is deteriorating, and the cancer cells are spreading fast.
“Do you have other plans, then?” Felicity asked. “Are you just waiting for her to tell us on her own
accord where Anonymous is?”
Artemis nodded lightly. “That's exactly what I'm thinking. It'll be best if she can offer us that information
voluntarily. Even if she doesn't want to, I hope she will still come around because she's a doctor. She
won't just sit idly by as the patient dies.”
Hopefully this will prick her conscience.
Artemis was an experienced businessman. He knew just how to get the things he wanted—both in
business and in life.
Felicity heaved a sigh of relief when she heard that. RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
I can count on him. After all, it only took him seven years to make Luther Group a multinational
organization. He even became one of the five wealthiest men in the world. I bet he will oust the others
from the list in no time.
“That's great. I'm glad you already have a plan in mind. Just make sure she tells us where Anonymous
is. I will not allow anything to happen to your granddad.”
“I understand, Mother.”
That same night, two young women met at Sugar and Spice Café in a private room at eight o'clock.
“It's been a while, Bay. I'll propose a toast, but with coffee,” Veronique said to the woman beside the
window.
Bailey laughed. “Sure. I dare you to finish that whole cup of coffee in one shot.”
Veronique glanced at her speechlessly and rolled her eyes.
She still gets on my nerves.
“Coffee is meant to be savored. It's not a drink for you to squander away in just one gulp,” Veronique
replied after taking a small sip.
Bailey smiled again and fell into silence. “So, you went to the Luther family?” she asked after a while.
“How's Old Mr. Chivers?”
“It's a very tricky situation,” Veronique said, taking out the reports from her bag. “I wouldn't have
returned if I knew his cancer was in the central nervous system.”
Bailey quirked her brows, taking the documents from her friend.
She looked through quickly, and her brows furrowed. “It became so bad in just two months? Why did
they take so long to decide to operate on him?”
“Old Mr. Chivers hid it from them, but regardless, there's no way I can do this surgery,” Veronique said
with a sigh.
Bailey put the report aside and sat back in her chair. “You're not the person they're after. They want to
reach Anonymous through you.”
