Chapter 65 True Encounter or Fake Encounter
“Jamie.”
Amanda saw the man paying the bill at the counter and asked, “Are you having dinner here too?”
Jamie curled his lips unnaturally and forced a smile. “Miss Jewell.”
Amanda subconsciously looked behind Jamie. “Is Mr. Byran here too?”
“Mr. Byran is not here. I came to eat alone.”
Amanda then heaved a sigh of relief and said with a smile, “What a coincidence. We actually ran into each other here for dinner.”
Jamie nodded politely and greeted the person behind Amanda, “Mr. Dolley.”
Patrick also greeted him.
The three of them came out of the western restaurant together.
Jamie said, “It’s not easy to take a taxi at this hour. Miss Jewell, do you want to go back to Sisson Garden? I can take you back along the way.”
Patrick stopped him. “There’s no need. I’ll drive Amanda home.”
“Mr. Dolley’s house is in Vitano. It seems to be quite far away. It’s also not in the same direction. You don’t have to be so polite with me.”
“Jamie, you really do know a lot. Whether on the way or not, I am responsible for taking Amanda home safely when we have dinner together. After all, we’ve been friends for many years. I can’t trust others to drive her home.”
Amanda hurriedly explained, “Patrick, don’t get me wrong. Jamie meant well.”
“I’ll just take Jamie’s car back. It just happens that I have some work that needs his help.”
“Amanda, it’s so late.”
“It’s okay.”
Amanda nodded at Patrick. “See you later. Drive slowly.”Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
Jamie immediately took Amanda to the car.
After waving goodbye to Patrick, waiting outside, the car started and drove into the traffic.
Jamie said, “Miss Jewell, you can’t judge a book by its cover. You must be careful when dealing with people, especially the opposite sex. I think this Mr. Dolley is always weird, so I proposed to send you back.”
“Is that so?” Amanda’s gaze was calm in the rearview mirror, but there was a hint of melancholy. “Jamie, is it a coincidence that you’re also eating in this restaurant today?”
Jamie’s heart skipped a beat.
Amanda cut to the chase. “Take me to Iverson.”
As soon as she saw Jamie in the restaurant, she knew that it was not an accidental encounter at all.
“As Iverson’s personal assistant, Jamie wished he could be on standby 24 hours a day. Unless he had a long vacation, he couldn’t have such leisure time to get off work and have dinner at six or seven on weekdays, not to mention that he was alone.”
“Who are you trying to fool?”
“It wasn’t the first time Iverson had sent someone to investigate and follow her.”
“Miss Jewell, this is a misunderstanding. Actually…”
“I’ll ask him in person whether it’s a misunderstanding or not. Drive your car.”
Jamie silently worried for his boss. He had said it was inappropriate to block Amanda in the restaurant. Still, the boss insisted on him sending her home. Wasn’t this exposed?
Not only was Amanda not stupid, but she was also brilliant. How could she not suspect him?
Now, she misunderstood that her pursuer had sent people to monitor her anytime. No one could accept this.
The Byran Group.
There was a knock on the door from the outside.
Iverson did not even raise his head. “Come in.”
In the footsteps, he asked while making tea, “Did you get her?”
“Not only did he receive me, but I also came to thank you in person.”
A female voice rang out. Iverson’s eyes narrowed slightly as he slowly raised his head.
Amanda stood at the door with her arms crossed. Her snow-white shirt was tied with a broad bow tie on the chest. The hemline was tied in a black hip-wrapping skirt, and the raised waistline made her legs look straight and slender. Her ten-centimeter-high heels stepped on the carpet. She was quiet, magnificent, swift, and fierce, and it looked like she would denounce him.
Iverson raised an eyebrow.
“Mr. Byran, Miss Jewell refuses to go home and insists I bring her here.”
Jamie stood behind Amanda, his expression as bitter as a follower’s. He was afraid that Iverson would scold him.
Iverson casually raised his hand and poured the first cup of tea he had just made onto the table. “Just in time, Come and have a cup of tea with me,” he said calmly.
Amanda frowned and took a few quick steps forward. “You don’t intend to explain why your assistant appeared at my dinner table?”
Behind him, Jamie silently took his leave and closed the door behind him.
“Would you believe me if I said it was a coincidence?”
“I don’t believe it!” Amanda grabbed her handbag. She would have smashed it on Iverson’s face if she hadn’t been rational enough. “This is not the first time you’ve been following me. Do you know what you’re doing?”
“When was the last time?”
“The Japanese restaurant! You actually forgot.”
“You sent it yourself that time.”
Amanda was speechless. “What about this time? How did you know where I was this time? Jamie insisted on sending me home. Wasn’t your order?”
“It’s my order.”
All of a sudden, Iverson admitted to it.
On the contrary, Amanda was stunned. “You admit it, don’t you? You’re too scary!”
As she spoke, she retreated.
However, Iverson suddenly pulled her back. Before she could come to her senses, she was pulled over by him. A minty wind blew past her ears. When she opened her eyes, she was pressed down on the sofa by Iverson.
“Let go of me!”
She tried to struggle, but both hands were caught by Iverson. She couldn’t break free at all.
“You said I followed you, but you came to me yourself.”
“I’m here to argue with you!”
“Argue what?”
“Is it reasonable for you to follow me?”
“I also want to know who is following you. An hour ago, someone sent me a photo. I asked Jamie to check it out to see who took it.”
“Who are you trying to fool?”
“You don’t believe me?”
Iverson freed up a hand and showed it to Amanda. “Do you believe me now?”
Amanda was stunned. Looking at herself on the phone, she couldn’t believe it.
Someone really did take a picture of her and Patrick having dinner.
After being stunned for a long time, Amanda realized that Iverson was still on top of her. Embarrassed, she asked, “Then how do I know if you sent someone to follow me and send it to you?”
“Why should I send someone to follow you?”
His question silenced Amanda.
She couldn’t thick-skinned say that he was a pervert because he wanted to pursue her, could she?
Before she could answer, a flat and powerful voice came from above her head. “But I’m not very happy to see this photo.”
Amanda couldn’t move, so she stammered, “Why… why are you unhappy?”
In the dark, Iverson narrowed his unapproachable eyes slightly and stared at her. “Should I be happy to see you having dinner with another man?”
Stunned, Amanda hurriedly explained, “Patrick and I are old classmates, nothing more.”
“So you’re explaining it to me?”
“No, I am…”
Faced with that face so close to hers. Amanda was so nervous that she didn’t know what to say. She should have pushed him away and even scolded him for taking advantage of her.
However, when she saw the look in Iverson’s eyes, she was far more nervous than angry.
Thump! Thump! Her heart was beating like a drum, and it could jump out of her chest in the next second.
