Chapter 33 I Heard of My Identity as the Second-Hand Car Seller
Before Amanda could introduce them, Mrs. Elder Jewell warmly reached out to Iverson and asked, “Are you, Mr. Byran?”
“Auntie, you are too polite. Just call me Iverson.”
“Iverson, what a nice name.”
Mrs. Elder Jewell had not even graduated from junior high school. It would be impossible for her to tell if the name was good or bad.
“Mom, how do you know his surname is Byran?”
Amanda realized something and widened her eyes. “You didn’t faint?”
When Mrs. Elder Jewell fainted, Iverson had not yet come. How could she know who had sent her to the hospital if she fainted? Moreover, she was so sober at this time, so it was obvious that her mom was pretending.Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
Amanda was speechless. “Mom, why are you pretending to be unconscious? You scared me to death!”
“You wicked girl.” Mrs. Elder Jewell hit her back and said grumpily, “You’re quite disappointed that I didn’t faint. It would be better if something happened to me, wouldn’t it?”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“Then what do you mean? You can’t even diss back when that old hag pointed her finger at you. There are so many onlookers watching. Do you think I don’t care about our faces? This is a strategy of mine, do you understand?”
“What strategy?”
“Didn’t you…” Mrs. Elder Jewell was trying to figure out that Amanda had been cheating on her husband when she suddenly realized that someone else was in the room. She immediately changed the subject. “I’m not going to tell you that.”
“Iverson, right? When did you get to know Amanda?”
“It’s a long story.”
No matter what tone was used to say these words, they seemed thought-provoking, especially in the current situation.
Mrs. Elder Jewell studied Iverson. “What do you do for a living?”
“I…”
“Mom, why are you asking about this?” Amanda interrupted her without hesitation.
“Mr. Byran, my mother is fine now. It’s getting late. You should go home and rest. I’ll visit you another day to thank you.”
The dismissal order was very obvious.
Iverson glanced at his watch and said, “Don’t worry, you haven’t eaten yet, have you? I’ve already ordered food.”
“No need. My mother is fine now. I’m going to take her back.”
“She’d better stay in the hospital for observation. I’ve arranged for a doctor to give auntie a full-body physical examination tomorrow. There will always be all kinds of diseases and pains in one’s old age. Since she’s here, she can leave after the examination.”
“That’s right, Iverson is right. I’ve been feeling a little dizzy recently. Ouch, it’s starting again now.” Mrs. Elder Jewell suddenly became weak again and pretended to howl while leaning against the pillow.
Amanda was speechless.
Mom, can’t you act a little better? Your exaggerated acting is so embarrassing.
Given the current situation, it would be rude of Amanda to reject the offer.
When Iverson went out to answer the phone, Mrs. Elder Jewell stopped him and asked, “What’s Iverson’s job? He seems to be very rich.”
Amanda raised an eyebrow. “How do you know that he’s rich?”
“His car, his clothes, and his watch are not cheap. I’ve lived for so many years. Can’t you see that?”
“Tell mom, did you get together with him?”
“Mom!” Amanda was anxious. “What nonsense are you talking about? Do you not believe in your daughter?”
“Of course, I trust your character, but sometimes you can’t control your feelings. You’d been married to Halley for three years but haven’t had a baby. Understandably, you had lost passion for Halley. I think Iverson is not bad. How is his family compared to the Sean Family?”
Amanda was truly speechless to her mother from the bottom of her heart.
Her mom was crazy about money.
To dispel her mother’s idea, Amanda said bluntly, “He sells second-hand cars.”
…
After a while, the dishes ordered by Iverson were sent to the ward.
It had to be said that Iverson had spent a lot of money on the freshly baked seafood porridge. The restaurant waiter arrived with a casserole and a table full of side dishes.
“That’s a lot, Mr. Byran. You’ve spent a lot of money on it. I don’t think it’s easy to sell a second-hand car now.”
“Second-hand car?”
A puzzled look appeared in Iverson’s eyes.
Amanda coughed all of a sudden. “Mom, hurry up and eat. I still have something to do.”
With that, she hurriedly pulled Iverson out of the room.
After walking far away from the ward, Amanda finally heaved a sigh of relief.
Amanda turned around and saw that Iverson was staring at her. She froze for a moment, but when she realized her holding his hand, she quickly let go of it as if she had been electrocuted.
“I’m sorry.”
“I heard that I sell second-hand cars?”
Iverson’s questioning tone put Amanda in an awkward position. “I’m just trying to avoid unnecessary trouble,” she said awkwardly. “You’d better not let my mother discover who you are.”
“Why?”
“Because…”
Looking into Iverson’s cold eyes, Amanda suddenly choked, and his voice lowered. “Because she loves money very much. Her biggest goal is to watch me marry into a rich family. You don’t want to be a busybody, do you?”
In silence, Amanda tried her best to adjust her emotions.
She knew her mother was afraid of being poor, so she loved money so much. That was why she didn’t want her mother to suffer. But in the eyes of outsiders, this was just a family’s vanity.
“I think I should meet the standard of auntie when it comes to money, right?”
Amanda was stunned and raised her head in disbelief.
The man in front of her had eyes as deep as the sea, but at this moment, some ripples moved her mind.
Amanda’s heart skipped a beat.
She looked away in a panic but stuttered, “No… it’s getting late. You should go back and rest early.”
“I haven’t eaten yet.”
“Huh?”
“I helped you. Aren’t you treating me to dinner?”
“Mr. Byran, if you go home now, I’m sure your maid will cook a good meal for you. It’s even tastier than the ones from a five-star hotel.”
Iverson said calmly, “Auntie must be very curious about how much money I can earn from selling second-hand cars every month.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Amanda immediately corrected herself. “I’ll treat you to dinner.”
At the 24-hour convenience store across the hospital.
After the microwave made a tinkling sound, the two rice balls were heated.
Amanda pushed one of them to Iverson and said, “Here’s your dinner.”
She had thought that Iverson would turn his back on her for bringing him here to eat something like this, so he would most likely take her to leave. However, to her surprise, Iverson was as calm as ever. He calmly tore the wrapping paper off the rice ball and slowly bit into it.
“How does it taste?”
Iverson said flatly, “A little salty.”
Amanda herself was embarrassed. “I’m going to buy another drink. What would you like to drink?”
“Pure water will do.”
“Alright!”
When Amanda paid the bill, she glanced at Iverson, who was looking out of the window at the street. Iverson’s hand was slender and clean, and the joints of his hand were distinct. The eight-dollar rice ball felt like a piece of handmade sushi.
Amanda suddenly thought of what he said in the corridor of the hospital. He leaned over slightly. Although they were not very close, he seemed to be talking next to her ear.
“I should have met the requirements.”
