Chapter 1041 Not Them
Chapter 1041 Not Them
Everyone in Port City knew that the Raines family and the Chase family were close.
Luke and she grew up together.
If the photo had been sent out without any editing, everyone would have recognized her and Luke in it, and some people would have doubted the authenticity of the photo.
But the Squirrel team had deliberately blurred Luke's face, so that no one could tell it was him, and made people think that the man in the photo was a flashy and flirty guy.
Only such a man would convince the public that the photo was real.
After all, such a man would be very good at sweet-talking women, and she might have 'cheated' on Julien because of his 'smooth words'.
Realizing their evil intentions, Sydney trembled in anger. She itched to break into their office and confront them.
"I wouldn't have noticed that Luke's face was edited if you hadn't pointed it out to me." Sydney clasped her slender fingers to suppress her anger.
She couldn't help it. She had been so annoyed by the rumors spread by the Squirrel team and the comments on the internet that she hadn't paid much attention to the other anomalies in the photos.
If it weren't for Sean's reminder, she might not have found out for a long time.
Sean shook her hand. "It's fine. Well, do you notice anything else wrong?"
"Enlighten me." Sydney looked at her.
Sean pointed at the comment section on the computer. "These comments are all clearly negative and malicious. There isn't any positive comment. I know that netizens are not very friendly to public figures, and are even a bit gloomy, hoping for them to fall and never recover, but still, there should be some people who are kind-hearted and not so full of hatred online, who would leave some fair comments."
She paused and then added, "Besides, you and Mr. Flint have so many fans who ship you together. Even if some of them believe the rumors online and stop supporting you, there will still be a portion of loyal fans who trust you and root for you. These fans should normally leave comments online to back you up and help you clear your name. But there is not a single one of them. Only negative comments are visible. This is obviously abnormal. I think someone must have hired trolls to mess things up."
As she said that, Sean randomly clicked on the profile of an account that left a bad comment.
She looked at the profile and sneered. "As expected, just pick any and you'll see how clean their profile is. No information at all. Clearly, they are just newly registered accounts. If they are not trolls, then what are they? Someone is deliberately trying to ruin you."
Sean looked at Sydney.
To her surprise, Sydney didn't show any shock at the truth that she revealed.
Sean couldn't help but ask in astonishment, "Did you figure it out already?"
Sydney hummed. "Yes, I had doubts as soon as I saw so many bad reviews. In this world, there are good people and bad people. Likewise, there are bad reviews and fair reviews. This is the unchanging law of the world. But I didn't see any positive reviews. Even if I did, they would disappear in a second after being posted. This clearly tells me that someone is behind this manipulation of comments, deleting all the positive ones and leaving only the negative ones."
"I see. No wonder you didn't look surprised at all." Sean raised her chin, enlightened.
Then she frowned and asked, "Who do you think did this?"
Sydney shook her head. "I don't know."
Everything happened too fast for her to have time to think about who was behind it.
"Could it be the person who intercepted our parts?" Sean suddenly guessed.
Sydney looked at her and asked, "Why do you think it's him?"
Sean said, "There are only a few people who have a grudge against you. Madeline is still in jail, and she doesn't have the power or the guts to do this. After all, she landed in prison because she used public opinion to spread rumors about you. Then there's the Madden family, but they are also unlikely. Recently, the state sent a notice that they are investigating the Trison Corporation. The Madden family is busy trying to get rid of any evidence that might expose their dirty deeds to the state. They don't have time to plot against you. So, besides these people, the only one left is the person who intercepted our parts. Yesterday, Mr. Flint helped us get the parts back. Maybe that person is angry and wants to strike back."
"That's a reasonable analysis, but I don't think it's him." Sydney shook her head slightly.
Sean looked at her and asked, "Why not?"
"I didn't tell you before, but the person who intercepted our parts is a man in his fifties."
"A man in his fifties?" Sean was stunned. This was unexpected.
She had thought it was some young guy.© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
"Yes." Sydney nodded and then pointed to the news on the computer screen. "And don't you see what the real goal of this news is?"
"Isn't it to tarnish your reputation?" Sean looked at the computer screen and guessed with some uncertainty.
Sydney nodded and shook her head. "You're partly right. This news is indeed meant to tarnish my reputation, but that's not the only goal. There are many ways to smear someone's name, so why choose to use a scandal involving romance? This means that the person behind this wants me to break up with Julien."
"Want you to break up with Mr. Flint?" Sean gasped in shock.
Sydney hummed. "Yes, that's right. Think about it. What is the most intolerable thing for a man?"
Sean seemed to grasp something and blurted out, "Being betrayed."
She tapped her temple, implying such a betrayal.
Sydney lowered her eyes, "That's right, for a man, nothing is more intolerable than the betrayal of his woman, especially for a man like Julien, who has status, self-esteem, and a strong character. If I betray him, he will choose to leave me even if he still loves me. That's why the people behind this chose to use a scandal to create rumors about me, because this way, there is a chance that Julien will doubt me and break up with me. But if the people behind this really just wanted to smear my reputation, they could have used more vicious means. Which of those effects wouldn't be better than a scandal?"
"I see." Sean stroked her chin. "The people behind this didn't use more vicious ways to smear you because they knew that as long as you didn't make that kind of mistake, Mr. Flint wouldn't easily
give up on you based on his feelings for you. So, they gave up those insidious methods and chose to slander you online."
