chapter 210
chapter 210
We drove to the park, the place was surprisingly not as packed out as I was expecting and only a
few people were around with their kids. Pulling up, Amara squeals happily and I climb out of the car
before opening the back door and retrieving Mara from her carseat. The park was pretty big and had
everything including picnic areas and a barbeque and also a sandpit.
She runs straight for the boot of the car the moment her feet touch the ground bouncing up and
down excitedly. Ryland pops it open before handing her, her bucket and Pale before she runs off NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
toward the sandpit.
Ryland followed closely behind her before flopping down in the sand next to her and helping her fill
her bucket. Mara seemed happy enough but I did notice a few of the parents grab their kids the
moment he stepped into the sandpit dragging them away or just leaving entirely, eventually they all
leave, giving us the entire park to ourselves.
Sitting next to Ryland and Mara I look around to find the place completely deserted now. Everyone
is gone and I look to Ryland.
"Everyone left" I tell him, a little shocked, I know for years the three of their faces were a constant
in the news but they have kept to themselves for a few years now and besides the Thaddeus incident
that thankfully Amara cleaned up nothing has happened.
"They will never forget, those at the playgroup though are used to us now. They stopped running
from us after the first month" Ryland says, noticing me looking around. The thought saddened me,
making me wonder what that means for Mara.
"So they let her play in playgroup" he nods.
"Yeah Orion and I just stay off to the side, make any sudden movements and they bolt" he shrugs.
"You should come with us, might put some of the parents at ease, you haven't torn apart cities like
we have"
"Does she notice?" I ask, looking at Mara.
"Not sure, I hope not," he says, tugging a curl back behind her ear.
We played in the sand for a bit before Ryland pushed her on the swings, just when we were about
to leave I suddenly needed to pee. Looking around, I see the toilet cubicle and scrunch my face up at it
before getting up.
"Gotta pee" I tell him and he nods before turning back to Mara. I walk over to the small brick toilet
block. Opening the toilet door with my elbow I look at the steel toilet, so gross I am not touching it, I
think before jockeying it so I don't come in contact with it.
I quickly wash my hands before walking back out, looking at the swings. I don't see them
anywhere when I hear Mara cry before feeling something cold and made of steel pressed to the back of
my neck.
"Bout time you left the house" comes a male voice behind me. I go to turn when they speak again.
"Not so fast, I have your daughter look at the carpark, the white van next to yours" the mystery
voice says. I do and my stomach drops when I see Laura holding Mara with a knife in her hand. Mara
crying for dadda.
"Where is my husband?" I ask my eyes darting around before spotting him next to the swings on
the ground unmoving.
"He is alive, but if you don't do what we say your daughter won't be, now move" he says poking the
barrel in the back of my head. I walked toward Laura who was holding Mara, a nervous look on her
face.
I hold my hands out for Mara, “try anything your daughter will be dead before you take a step" he
growls behind me and I look around seeing men in black suits come out of the trees surrounding the
park, guns in hand and Mara's back lights up with red dots.
"Get in the van" he says and Laura opens the back of it up and I look around trying to find some
escape when I feel a pinch in my neck. I touch my neck before feeling woozy making me sway and
clutch the door. Mara starts screaming and Laura takes her from me, ripping her out of my arms, my
entire body felt like it was on fire. Wolfsbane. The man behind me suddenly tosses me in the back
before getting in. Laura also gets in with Mara and places her on her lap. While I lay on the van floor.
The dark haired man taps the wall of the van before I feel it start moving.
I couldn't move, all I could do was try to muffle the sounds I was making so as to not scare Mara
more. "Mummy" she kept screaming and wailing yet I couldn't move to help her, every nerve ending set
alight as my body tried to rid the effects of the wolfsbane, Laura trying to console her and quieten her
when the Man leaned down, his red eyes gleaming menacingly back at me, a face that haunts my
memories and one I should never had seen again.
"Lovely to meet you again Evelyn my name is Demetri, though you may not think it is lovely to
meet me when you find out what I have in store for you" he chuckles before I feel another sharp pinch
in my leg, my eyes darting down to my leg to see a dart in it, my vision becoming blurry as all sound
fades away and everything goes black.
