chapter 157 Fifty-Five
chapter 157 Fifty-Five
Evelyn’s POV
I was woken suddenly by arguing. Sitting up, I was in a bed. The last thing I remember was being
in the car. Looking around Thaddeus was arguing with Orion while Ryland was in between trying to
break it up.
“I told you not to fucking leave, and you still went. What did you? We can’t keep moving her around
like this.”
“It doesn’t matter Orion we have to go before the police get called and come here” Thaddeus says.
I could feel through the bond his darkness was seeping out of him though he seemed pretty under Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
control for how sickly twisted it felt through the bond.
“What’s going on?” I ask, all their heads snapping to me on the bed.
“Nothing Babe we just need to leave,” Thaddeus says walking over and scooping me up off the
bed.
“I need to pee,” I tell him, the baby felt like it was sitting on my bladder, he places my feet on the
ground, my legs buckling under me from not having moved for so long. Thaddeus hand grabs me
steading me. I push his hand away. “I’m fine” I tell him, and he lets go.
I was not fine. I felt exhausted, ridiculously exhausted. My muscles aching, even my bones aching
with every step I took. This baby has zapped the energy right out me, my belly so hard and round I
could no longer see my see my feet. Just bending or moving slightly made my lungs wheeze.
Quickly using the bathroom, I walk out to find the bedroom empty apart from Thaddeus, sitting on
the bed with his head in hands. He looks up when I step out before walking over to me and grabbing
me, obviously not willing to wait for me to hobble down the stairs.
“Where are we going?” I ask shivering when the cold chill of the air brushes over me as he steps
outside.
“Home,” he says, making me look at him.
“Really?” I ask excited to finally not have to run anymore. We had been on the move for ages
never staying in one place for more than a night. Orion opens the car door when we approach before
sliding across the seat. Thaddeus places me in my seat before getting in the driver’s side and starting
the car.
I try clipping the seatbelt in, but no matter where I put it, it dug into my belly. My skin was tender
from stretching so quickly, every piece of me felt bruised even though there were no visible marks.
Unclipping the belt, I try to get comfortable.
“Evelyn seatbelt,” Orion protests trying to force it around me. I swat his hands away, annoyed.
“No, it irritates my skin,” I tell him.
“You need to put it on” Orion growls pulling me to his side and trying to wrap the middle belt
around me.
“Orion leave her” Ryland growls back at him.
“You know what fine, pull over” Orion says angrily.
“I will put it on, just stop it please” I beg him, trying to click the belt in. Every day they argue over
something, every day we are trapped in this car all they do is fight, I was sick of it.
Thaddeus pulls the car over and Orion hops out, slamming the door in my face as I lean over
trying to stop him from leaving. Thaddeus gets out after him and they start screaming at each other. I
try to drown them out sick of hearing the same bullshit.
“You okay Hun” Ryland asks, the headlights illuminating them as they fight on the side of the
highway.
“No, they just don’t stop. They are always at each other’s throats” Ryland reaches for me over the
back of the seat, and I go to waterworks, stupid fucking pregnancy hormones. One minute I am fine,
the next either raging over nothing or crying. I miss my normal body, miss being able to see my own
feet.
Wiping my tears, they were still arguing over god knows what.
“What are they even fighting over?” I ask. Ryland shrugs.
“Thaddeus apparently killed someone, and Thaddeus has been trying to explain something to him,
but Orion is just being an asshole and not listening and talking over him because he doesn’t want to
keep moving you.”
Argh this is a nightmare. “Who did he kill?”
“No, idea” Orion won’t let him explain.
I huff annoyed at sitting on the side of the road.
Climbing over the seat, I hop in the driver’s seat. It was a tight squeeze fitting between the two
front seats, and I am fairly sure I smacked Ryland in the head with my bulging belly.
“What are you doing?” Ryland asks.
“Leaving them and going home,” I tell him putting the car in drive and taking off. Tears rolling down
my face. Were they going to fight like this constantly when the baby arrives? I was over it, Thaddeus
said we were going home so that’s where I am going, they can run home and sort out their problems.
Ryland’s phone starts ringing, and I hit the gas harder. He answers it.
“Hello Orion,” Ryland says, sounding bored.
I could only hear one side of the conversation, but I got the gist of it from Ryland’s replies.
“No, what do you expect? She isn’t going to keep watching you fight. Sort your shit out and meet
us at home,” he says hanging up and I smile sadly at him.
“Slow down, love. Don’t want to hit anything at this speed,” he says, looking at the odometer. I
release the accelerator a bit. I drove for a few hours before I felt fatigue catching up to me and I start
yawning. I felt like all I do is sleep and eat.
Ryland noticing me continuously yawning speaks.
“Pull over at the next gas station” I nod around thirty kilometres later; I finally find one. The
highway was boring and went on forever it felt like before I finally see the bright neon lights.
“Get in the passenger seat, I will drive” I climb out of the car, walking to the other side and climbing
in. Ryland fills the car up before walking into the service station and returning with a bag full of potato
chips and sweets.
“They sold them tomato flavour chips you like” he says, pulling them out of the bag and handing
them to me. “Thank you” I tell him opening the packet and starting to eat them. I offer some to Ryland,
but he shakes his head and starts the car. I eat my chips, the drive was peaceful without them two
arguing and I end up falling asleep, only to wake when the car stops again. I sit up stretching and
nearly cry in relief when I see our home. I missed this place, missed it so much. Thaddeus opens my
door, picking me up and cradling me to his chest. I inhale his scent placing my hand on his chest.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you” he says, kissing my eyebrow. I nod not really caring
anymore, I was over it. It was nearly daylight already we must have been driving again for hours not
that I really knew where we were in the first place before we got here.
“Where is Orion” I ask.
“Inside talking to my mother” Thaddeus answers and I instantly brighten up. His mother was here, I
kick my legs wanting to be put down so I can go to her. “Settle little one, me carrying you will still be
faster than you trying to run” He was right, I was so much slower now.
We step inside our familiar surroundings, the place smelt like it had been locked up for weeks on
end which it had been. As soon as I walk in, I see Amara and Imogen talking to Orion. Imogen had a
bag and some herbs in her hand. The chatter dying when I step in. Imogen’s eyes go wide as
Thaddeus places me on my feet. Amara eyes running over my body worriedly.
“Hey Ma” I tell her, and she smiles walking over to me and embracing me gently, like she thought
she was going to break me. She gently rubs my belly before looking up at Thaddeus and I couldn’t
decipher the look on her face. Amara hesitates, watching me closely like she was here but not seeing
what was in front of her. Her eyes glazed over, and a dark expression took over on her face, her lips
pursed together.
“Amara?” Thaddeus asks. She shakes her head before snapping out of her trance.
“Sorry,” she quickly says walking over and hugging me. She rubs my belly a smile on her lips.
“She is strong,” Amara says. All of us looking to her.
“It’s a girl?” Ryland asks stepping around me and into the room.
Amara nods a huge grin on her face. “Can you feel it brother? Feel her magic?”
“She is pure,” Thaddeus answers his voice choking slightly. His mother pats his back softly before
he abruptly walks away. I could feel he was emotional through the bond, not sad but not happy either
just, it took me a second to recognise it. It felt like loneliness. I stare after him worried before Orion
places his hand on my shoulder.
“I will check on him,” he says, walking off after him. Hopefully, he does check on him not argue
with him.
“We brought you some things, some herbs to add to your tea. Orion said you’re exhausted all the
time; these will give you a boost. Oh, and this one will stop any pain you have, just don’t take to much
they make you horny,” Amara says, her mother smacking her.
“Amara was up most of the night harvesting the garden for you,” Imogen chuckles. Ryland holds
out his hand to put them away, he takes the bag from Amara and she puts the herbs in his hand before
she tenses, jumping back her eyes glazed over. Her eyes dart to me, then back to Ryland and I could
clearly see fear displayed in her eyes. “Amara what’s wrong” Imogen asks, Ryland was watching
Amara when she suddenly grabs hold of both his wrists, her eyes turning white, and she gasps her
eyes moving like she is watching something. It was the eeriest sight to watch her.
“You can’t let them do it” Amara gasps. Her eyes looking frantically between us. “What?” Ryland
asks looking at me.
“Promise you won’t let them do it.”
“What are you talking about, Amara?”
“Thaddeus, he will end world if she dies. It will doom us all,” she gasps before her eyes roll into the
back of her head and blood starts running from her nose and Amara suddenly passes out. Amara
collapses and Ryland grabs her in time just as she is about to hit the floor. Imogen was lost staring into
to space. While my heart was pounding in my chest so hard, I was struggling to breathe, I could feel a
panic attack coming on, the room pulsating around me and my vision beginning to blur. What did she
mean, what did she see?
