Winston opened the car door and bent down to put her into the car. His tone softened as he said, ” Okay. Get in the car first.”

Millie’s hands were still around his neck, so he couldn’t move away.

He knew very well that if he didn’t agree to her asking a question now, she wouldn’t let go.

He was well aware that she was very stubborn.

He maintained his current position of bending over. Helplessly, he asked, “Go ahead.”

Millie looked up and stared at him. Blinking, she asked gently, “If Joanna didn’t exist, would you love

me?” Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

This was a question she had been dying to ask in the last three years.

Looking at Millie, a mixture of emotions flashed in Winston’s eyes.

Millie was looking at him earnestly, making it impossible for him to not answer sincerely.

He should have said “no” firmly, but as he looked at her, he couldn’t bring himself to say it for some

reason.

Millie pursed her lips as she looked into Winston’s eyes. Seeing him hesitate, she knew his answer. Even if Joanna didn’t exist, he wouldn’t love her.

He didn’t answer her not because he was hesitant or unclear of his decision, but because he was saving her dignity. He just didn’t want her to feel humiliated.

Millie retracted her arms, unable to hide the sorrow in her eyes as she said, “I got it.”

Winston swallowed. He noticed the sadness in her eyes and asked in a hoarse voice, “What do you

get?*

Millie responded, “Your answer.”

“I haven’t answered yet.”

Millie chuckled weakly and leaned back in the car seat.

She looked away and closed her eyes, and then said calmly, “Winston, we’ve known each other for seven years. I know you.

“Sometimes, I don’t need you to give me a verbal answer. I already know your answer by observing your facial expression, body language, and gaze.”

Winston got in the car and looked out the window. “Is that so?”

Yes,” she muttered softly.

Winston couldn’t help but look at her. She seemed to be really tired, or perhaps she didn’t want to see him, so she closed her eyes as soon as she got in the car.

Eli turned around to glance at them before asking, “Mr. Greer, where are we going?”

“To Caldwell Villa.” Winston spoke calmly, but he felt frustrated and dejected inside. Even he didn’t

know why.

Eli nodded and reminded, “Mr. Greer, the banquet is over. I’ve asked someone to send Ms. Lowell home. She’s not in a good state.”

“I got it. Buy a gift and a bouquet of roses for her tomorrow.” Winston rubbed the area between his brows.

Millie’s eyes were still closed. Listening to their conversation, her heart gradually sank. Roses. She had never received flowers of any kind from Winston

It was a long way home. Millie was really too tired, and on top of that, she felt the effects of the numbing medicine on her wound. So, she fell asleep unknowingly on the way back.

Winston suddenly felt a weight on his shoulder. He turned to the side and found Millie sleeping on his shoulder.

Her dress was revealing, so he could see her bosom. She was really beautiful. Even in the dimly lit car, it was hard for one to look away.

Staring at her face, Winston felt the urge to kiss her. His throat felt inexplicably dry as his heart raced. He raised his hand and cupped her face, while his thumb caressed her cheek.

Then, he moved his finger to her lips. He swallowed as he lightly stroked her lips.

He thought of Millie saying that she no longer loved him, how she gazed at Simon, and the way she
