Chapter 409

Back at M Base, Millie ran another check on the Aspher. Once she confirmed that everything was in order, she repackaged it and uploaded the data and photos to the M system.

Marvin observed as she worked through each step. Yvonne, on the other hand, rested her chin on her hand, watching intently. “Boss, what’s the Aspher for?”

“My grandfather wants to give it to my grandmother,” Millie answered.

Yvonne tilted her head and exclaimed, “Wow, Mr. Caldwell Senior is so romantic! The Aspher is truly beautiful!”

Her words got a chuckle out of Millie. “Romantic? Do you think it’s because of how pretty it is? To Grandma, it’s just another medicinal ingredient.”

Arthur knew Layla needed the Aspher, so he went out of his way to get it for her. That was just how the Caldwell men were. They would always find ways to spoil their wives.

The blue smart screen flashed “Import Successful“. Millie snapped her fingers, indicating that the job was done.

“I’m taking the Aspher home now,” Millie announced. She then turned to Marvin and instructed calmly, “Remember to transfer the money to that kid.”

Marvin was opening the payment application when he heard what Millie said. Puzzled, he asked, “Kid?”

Millie hummed in response. Paxton seemed to be 17 or 18 the most. She wasn’t even sure if he was legally an adult yet.

“How did a young man like him get hold of the Aspher?” Marvin asked while typing away.

Millie was about to leave with the Aspher when his question made her stop. He was right. How had Paxton managed to get such a herb?

Regardless, she shrugged it off. It didn’t really matter now. After all, the Aspher was hers.

Millie arrived home with the Aspher. The moment she opened the door, she was

greeted by the sound of her grandparents arguing in the living room.

“I told you not to bother me. Why did you make me come home just to sit here and glare at you? Don’t you know how busy I am in the lab? I’m overwhelmed! The lab can’t run without me,” Layla reprimanded Arthur,

While changing into her indoor slippers, Millie’s lips curled into a smile. Who in the world couldn’t manage without someone else? The lab wasn’t going to fall apart if Layla wasn’t there.

“Grandma, are you giving Grandpa a hard time again?” Millie asked as she entered the living room with the Aspher. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Layla was sitting on the couch with a commanding air. It was as if she were a queen.

Arthur was dressed in a black suit. He stood behind his wife, massaging her shoulders. Yet, he was still getting an earful,

However, Arthur was patient. Despite Layla’s scolding, he didn’t argue back.

That was how it was for them. Given Layla’s dominance, if Arthur was unwilling to give in, their life together was never going to be peaceful.

“Grandpa, guess what this is?” Millie placed the item on the coffee table.

Looking at the exquisite packaging, Arthur asked tentatively, “Could it be the…”

Millie nodded in confirmation, and right away, a smile spread across his face. “Nice work, Mills! You’re incredibly efficient. I thought it would take you a year or more to find this.”

Millie clicked her tongue and settled into a nearby armchair.

Then, Arthur asked Layla, “Can you guess what this is, dear?”

Layla was never interested in their guessing games. She simply huffed and took a sip of water.

“It’s a gift for you,” said Arthur.

But Layla remained unfazed. Her husband was never the most tactful, after all. Over the years, his straightforward nature meant the gifts he gave her were never quite right.

Hence, Layla assumed this time would be no different. It would probably be just another ordinary item that could be bought with money.
