Chapter 39
~ Three weeks later~
Pouring the liquor from the pot in the cup he drinks it up with one gulp. Closing his eyes he inhales a deep breath in and lets it out a feeble smile makes it’s way on his lips when he stares down at the liquid in the ceramic cup. Squeezing his eyes tight he lifts the other pot and drinks it all trying not to be sober.
Wanke always stays in the house of Jin at night as he gets drunk and sleeps there itself and then goes back to the academy in the morning. He has been absent minded in the class lately and never spoke to anyone. Feng Lei , HenYu and ChengLi tried their best to comfort him but he never gave them a chance as he keeps himself away from them isolating. He didn’t go back to the imperial palace for the three days holidays which was given to study for the exam as the main examination is held tomorrow and the following month is when the person who will take power to their kingdom will be announced. He stayed back even though he wanted to meet his mom.
“Here I got this for you,” he utters softly with his unstable voice, taking the wooden box from his pocket he places it on the table pushing it to the left edge “Do you kike it?,” He smiles leaning forward like looking at someone into their eyes.
Taking another pot which is on the table he drinks up all the liquor in it ending with a burp. Pushing all the empty pots away from the table he picks up another pot of liquor, resting his palms on the carpeted floor he leans back looking up staring the roof.
“You know…,” the environment captures silence where only his panting is present in the room. He breaks the silence abruptly giggling his eyes glued to the roof, moving his one hand he takes a sip of the liquor and slams the pot the table by moving forward his eyeballs sliding down to his left “I’m yooouu…… r si… si… sis… ter,” he smiles his words tumbling from his mouth in a rush.
Biting his lower he stares at an empty space , tears beginning to prick at the back of his eyes making him to sniff in. His already blurry vision gets blurrier when the tears pools up his eyes making his red swollen eyes sparkle.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
He snaps his head towards the doorway when the sound of the door slamming gets into his ears which aren’t effective, squeezing his eyes shut he opens it to make his vision clear, a smile sweeps across his lips when he sees the figure walking towards him.
“Fen… g L.. ei,” he smiles winsomely like a child just got a sugar coated haw.
“WanKe,” Feng Lei calls out holding him by his arm he lifts him up making him to stand up “Come with me,” he drags him forward but stops when WanKe removes his hold from his body.
“Let me drink,” bending low he takes another pot form the table moving it up to his lips, his mouth already open ready to welcome the liquid in.
“How long are you going stay as this?,” he pushes the pot away before a drop could get into his mouth, the carpet gets soaked with liquor, the broken pieces of clay laying on it. Holding his arm he pulls WanKe away from the carpet to the wooden floor.
“You wasted my liquor,” he stamps on the feet dancing like a fish pushed out of the water.
“WanKe,” Feng Lei raises his voice suddenly making him to stop his movements and look at him throwing daggers with his eyes. Wanke’s eyes go wide when Feng Lei grips his arm and makes him to stand steadily “Death is something which every human will experience,” he states his tone stiff and dry and as usual but his eyes showed clear concern and worry.
“I know, But Why not me?,” he replies in a low voice lowering his head.
“What do you mean?,” Feng Lei shakes him in his grip to wake WanKe up who would drift away at anytime.
“She died because of me,” he blurts in a low voice staring down at the wooden floor his mind playing the flashback of the times he spent with XuXu “I couldn’t protect her,” he takes a deep breath in and lets it out his mind ready to get sober but his body is affected by it, this moment makes him hate his alcohol tolerance “She doesn’t deserve it,” he lets the tear which he has been holding on to roll down his pale cheeks.
“Why should it be her when it’s me?,” He looks up meeting Feng Lei’s eyes “Tomorrow is the exam,” he pushes away his arms which has loosened long time back “You should go back to study,” he states by keeping a step back.
Wanke’s lips parts when Feng Lei holds his wrist in a second and pulls him to his chest wrapping his arms around his body Wanke’s arms are straight down not being able to move.
“I just can’t see you like this,” moving his head down a little he buries his face on the crook of her neck “You can cry out, don’t hold it in,” he says in low voice his hold getting tighter “I won’t look at you.”
The surrounding captures silence only their deep breaths getting into their ears, WanKe rest the side of his face on Feng Lei’s body. He closes his weary eyes his body not having the energy to fight.
“Her picture is right in front of my eyes,” he blurts his voice coming out as a whisper “The way she suffered to breath, those eyes which showed the pain, the blood,” he stops when his tears fall out uncontrollably from his mourns the room fills up with his sobs.
He stays there in his grip resting his soul on him crying his heart out the volume of his tone goes down every second until he dozes off setting the surrounding in silence again.
“Hey,” Feng Lei calls out patting at the back of Wanke’s head, a smile makes its way on his lips knowing that he is asleep.
Unwrapping him he lifts Wanke with his arms carrying him grunting his breath for the weight. Walking towards the bed he lays WanKe on it carefully, lifting his head up he places the pillow beneath his head. Stepping behind he sits on the bed beside him his eyes never leaving him.
“I’m glad that you cried out,” he smiles caressing the tear stain on his cheek with his thumb. His heart beat rises when his eyes glues on his sleeping figure, furrowing his eyebrows he moves his head low his face stopping in an inch away from Wanke’s.
