Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption

Chapter 613

Lizetta felt a chill down her spine, her heart stopping for a moment as she heard that voice.

Slowly, she turned her head and saw the man sitting in the back of the car.

Remington was still in his hospital gown, his handsome features a bit pale, making his deep-set eyes appear even darker and more unfathomable.

"Ah!"

Lizetta pressed a hand against her chest, letting out an involuntary gasp.

The man's expression changed the moment he saw her, his heart skipping a beat.

He knocked down the chair next to him and reached out to scoop up Lizetta, who was still in shock.

Falling into his embrace, Lizetta couldn't find any sense of familiarity or warmth, only a spine-chilling fear.

"Let me go! I want to get out of here!"

She struggled, reaching for the door.

Remington caught her flailing hand, forcibly separating her fingers to interlock them with his.

His voice was low in her ear, "Are you afraid of me?"

Held in his arms, her hands were icy cold, her body trembling slightly.

And the moment she realized he was in the car, the paleness of her face had also pierced Remington's eyes.

"Yes, can't I be afraid of you? Remington, you're like a nightmare, a devil!"

Lizetta clenched her teeth, her eyes filled with resentment.

She didn't understand, after everything, what was Remington still clinging to?

"Heh, I'm the devil? Then who's your hero? Him?"

Remington suddenly grasped Lizetta's delicate chin, forcing her to turn her head.

Through the car window, Hogan, looking anxious, rushed out of the hospital building.

By his side was the nurse who had helped Lizetta out earlier, pointing in their direction as Hogan looked over.

Clearly, he had realized she had been intercepted by Remington, the bastard.

Lizetta bit her lip, focusing intently outside the window, hoping Hogan would come after her.

She was forced to look up into his deep eyes.

"Still hoping he'll come to take you away? Or are you hoping for Jerome, who saved you?"

Lizetta coldly met his gaze, "It doesn't matter who, as long as it's not you."

No longer hoping for his presence, even fearing and rejecting it.

In her heart, without knowing when, he had changed from a savior to an aggressor. Lizetta's words were like fine needles, causing a stifling pain in Remington's chest.

He clenched his jaw but held her even tighter, his voice cold.

"Too bad, it doesn't matter who you think of, I'm not letting go!"

As the car sped around corners, Lizetta felt securely held in his arms, yet all she felt was annoyance.

Before long, the car steadied, presumably having lost the pursuing vehicle.

Remington slightly loosened his grip, looking down at Lizetta with a softer tone.

"Are you feeling alright? Want some water?"

Lizetta didn't want to drink; she wanted to spit in his face.

She turned her head away, her brows furrowed tightly, her whole being radiating resistance.

Nonetheless, Remington took a thermos, unscrewed it, and brought it to Lizetta's lips.
