Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption

Chapter 414

Lizetta didn't say a word, just nestled quietly in Remington's arms.

The reality of getting married hadn't quite hit her until now. Suddenly, as they were about to go try on wedding dresses, it all felt incredibly real, and her heart started racing.

The streets weren't busy, a rare lull in the usual traffic. It wasn't long before Christ parked the car.

Lizetta, still in Remington's embrace, walked into the bridal shop where they were greeted by a tall, striking woman with an air of elegance and a fiery red pantsuit that matched her confident demeanor. This was Sophia Sterling, Cassius Sterling's cousin and the owner of the shop.

"Congratulations to you both. Don't worry, Mr. Dashiell, leave Liz with me, and I'll make sure she's the most beautiful bride you've ever seen," Sophia greeted them with a grin.

Remington responded before Lizetta could, "My wife's naturally gorgeous. She could wear a burlap sack and still be the most beautiful bride. I'm not worried at all."

Lizetta was surprised by his candidness, and even Sophia seemed momentarily taken aback as the staff behind her chuckled. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

With a playful glare at Remington and a shy smile towards Sophia, Lizetta said, "Thank you for the trouble, Sophia."

Sophia laughed, holding Lizetta's hand, "Well, I never thought I'd see the day Mr. Dashiell would be so openly affectionate. But he's right. Liz, with your looks, every dress here is bound to suit you. I can't wait to see you in them."

Sophia then led Lizetta upstairs. Although she had met Sophia at a few functions, Lizetta didn't feel very close to her.

Lizetta's cheeks flushed slightly; as they browsed through a dozen of the latest collection, she eventually narrowed her choices down to her three favorite gowns.

Lizetta was unable to decide; Sophia suggested trying them all on and even called Remington up to see what he thought.

Remington made his choice quickly, pointing to a dress held by one of the taller staff members, "That one."

Lizetta felt he was being a bit dismissive, and nudging him, she said, "Why that one? The other two are so beautiful, too. Look at the off-the-shoulder design on that one; I love the design on the shoulder." But Remington cut her off, "I chose it because it has more fabric."

Blinking, Lizetta compared the dresses again. Indeed, the one he chose had the most fabric and was the only long-sleeved option. No wonder he chose so quickly. Turned out that was the sole reason of his selection.

Sophia, standing near them, couldn't help but laugh, her arms crossed, "With a figure like Liz's, Mr. Dashiell, you're quite the traditionalist, aren't you? Afraid to show her off?"

He even got jealous of that. It was a side of aloof Remington that Lizetta hadn't expected. She turned to him, slightly embarrassed.

Remington then explained, "Our wedding will be in the dead of winter. We can't stay indoors the whole time. Honey, let's go with the long-sleeved one. You can wear something warm underneath." Lizetta was taken aback by his practical yet unexpected reasoning. It wasn't something she would have thought Remington, of all people, would consider. Sophia and the staff were just as surprised by his down-to-earth concern.

Remington asked the clerk who was holding that long-sleeved dress to go with Lizetta while she tried on the attire.

As they left, he moved to the waiting area with Sophia trailing behind, who clicked her tongue in disbelief.

Remington, feeling her gaze, looked up with a hint of apparent annoyance.

Sophia finally spoke, "Never would have guessed, Mr. Dashiell, that you'd fall this hard."

Only love could make a man as untouchable and elevated as Remington worry about such grounded matters, to care so deeply about his wife's comfort and warmth above all else.

Sophia felt a mix of admiration and envy as a woman, even a bit touched. Yet, she thought Remington was quite the stereotypical man, not fully understanding a woman's desire. On the wedding day, which woman would care only warmth and disregard beauty?
