Chapter 134 His One And Only Scenery
Just then, the elderly man operating the boat ride along the river docked his boat. Nancy quickly used this as a distraction by pointing at the boat and saying, “Look! The boat’s back. Let’s take a ride.”
“Okay,” Nicholas nodded.
As soon as they finished discussing it, they realized the boat was starting to move away.
“Hurry! We might not make it!” Nancy cried out.
“Follow me,” Nicholas said, and without hesitation, he grabbed Nancy’s hand and started running.
Nancy allowed him to pull her along as she tried her best to match his pace and catch up to the boat.
As they ran, a cool breeze drifted over, carrying the fresh fragrance of flowers. They both felt rejuvenated by the wind.
Nancy chuckled and beamed. “What a lovely floral fragrance. It’s light but pleasant.”
Nicholas turned his head around. His dark eyes fell on Nancy’s face.
The moment he laid eyes on her lovely face, he couldn’t look away. The faint smile that added to her beauty seemed like a work of art to him.
If he had a camera, he would’ve captured this moment forever.
Even without a camera, he would do his best to etch this picturesque sight into his memory.
They huffed as they ran.
Fortunately, they made it in time to get on the elderly man’s boat.
Once they had taken their seats, Nancy looked at the elderly man. She was smiling, and her eyes were bright as she said to him, “Thank goodness you stopped, or we wouldn’t have made it.”
The elderly man noticed their attire and responded with a smile, “Wouldn’t a young couple from the city like you prefer one of those tour boats? Why did you decide to ride my small boat instead?”
Nancy chuckled and explained, “I think a boat like yours adds to the experience. It’s more unique.”
The elderly man guffawed. “You sure know the right things to say, miss. Well, sit tight. I’m going to show you what’s special about a boat ride like this.”
“Okay. I’m looking forward to it!”
Instantly, the boat began to glide swiftly across the water.
The sudden increase in speed made Nancy lurch forward. Thankfully, Nicholas gripped her hand and held her steady.
Once Nancy regained her balance, she noticed their clasped hands.
She quickly lowered her head and said awkwardly, “You can let
ко now.”
Nicholas heard her, but he pretended not to.
Nancy thought he didn’t hear her, so she poked his arm and repeated, “We’re on the boat now. You can let go.”
This time, Nicholas couldn’t pretend not to hear her. He looked around at the water before turning to Nancy. “This boat is not as safe as the regular tour boat. It’s safer if I hold you.”
“It’s fine. The boatman has been navigating this river his entire life. I’m sure we’re in good hands.”
“I know you’re not scared, but I am.”
Nicholas’ words flustered Nancy.
Huh…? That’s very unlike him.
She had a strong feeling he was lying to her.
Nicholas knew how to swim. Nancy had seen him in action before. He was undoubtedly an expert.
Since he was a highly skilled swimmer, even if he did fall into the river, he wouldn’t be afraid at all. Furthermore, they were sitting on a boat right now.
He’s lying to me, isn’t he?
Still, Nancy thought that if she exposed him, it would not only make him feel awkward, but she would feel awkward too.
Thus, she decided to take him at his word and assume he was indeed afraid.
“Oh. Fine, we’ll keep holding hands then!” Nancy said.
Just then, the elderly boatman chuckled and said, “Miss, your boyfriend went through quite the effort. just to hold your hand. He’s a good man.”
Nancy blushed as she explained, “He’s not my boyfriend.”
“Your husband then? That can’t be. You’re still so careful with each other. You must be newlyweds, huh? You both seem rather shy.”
This time, Nancy didn’t answer.
Nicholas was indeed her husband, but they weren’t newlyweds. In fact, they were about to get a divorce. That was why they seemed more distant and polite with each other.
Just then, the boat sped up.
A gentle breeze washed over them. Once again, it brought a faint floral fragrance with it.
A familiar melody drifted over from the side of the river, and a gentle voice sang along.
“Everything was slow: the bike, the horse, and the post. A lifetime was all but enough to be in love with one. The old-school lock was beautiful, and the key was exquisitely crafted. Once locked, others understood what it meant…”
It was a heartfelt love song.
Nancy would’ve turned into a puddle of tears by now if she hadn’t used all her strength to hold them. back.
She was moved.
The song touched her to the core.
After hearing about Jacob and his wife’s love, she could relate to the lyrics better.
If she could turn back time, she wanted to go back to that era.
What a beautiful thing it was to love only one person throughout one’s entire lifetime.
It was more beautiful than gold, wealth, and possessions.
This was the most beautiful form of love!
Alas, she would not have the chance to experience it.
After a while, Nancy caught a strong floral scent and asked curiously, “Why does it smell so good here?”
“Hahaha. Close your eyes, miss. You’ll find out in two minutes. Do as I say, and I promise you’ll be surprised.”
Though still doubtful, Nancy closed her eyes.
Two minutes later, the elderly boatman said, “You can open your eyes now, miss.” Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Nancy immediately opened her eyes.
When she saw the vibrant colors of blooming flowers on both sides of the river, she was completely amazed.
Apart from the large blossoms that gathered in clusters, there were also smaller red and yellow flowers that dotted among the green leaves, adding a delicate charm to the view.
Nancy could hardly believe her eyes, but the scent in the air convinced her it had to be real.
“It’s gorgeous.” Nancy was stunned. It was too beautiful-as if the boat had entered a secret garden.
Everything was breathtaking.
Just then, there was a loud boom, and fireworks exploded in the sky.
Nancy looked up and gasped, “If it were nighttime, the fireworks would’ve been so beautiful too.”
Shi-took in the wonderful scenery of blooming flowers and brilliant fireworks without knowing that
Nicholas was staring at her instead.
He stared at her radiant smile and captivating beauty. He watched her every move.
She was his scenery-the most beautiful scenery and the only one of its kind.
There was no one else like her.
When the sun started setting, Nancy and Nicholas walked back to his grandparents’ house.
Nancy glanced up as she sensed a sudden weight settling on her shoulders. Nicholas had removed his jacket and gently placed it around her.
“I’m alright. I don’t feel cold,” she remarked.
With his hands tucked into his pockets, Nicholas gazed up at the stars and responded, “After all the walking I did today, I feel quite warm. I thought you could assist me by wearing my jacket instead.”
