Chapter 122 I Don’t Want a Divorce, Nancy

Nancy calmly looked at Nicholas and merely curled her lips into a spine-chilling smile. “I’ve already decided to divorce you, Nicholas.”

“The divorce cannot happen without my agreement and my signature.” Nicholas continued to stare at her with great intensity.

“I’ll wait until you say yes.”

“Let me repeat myself, Nancy. I will never divorce you.”

She chuckled. “There’s no need to be so absolute, Nicholas. Nothing is ever set in stone. Everything in this world can be changed, including a person’s thoughts. Talk to me when you’ve thought this through. I will be waiting here for you.”

“Here?”

Nicholas looked around the room as realization struck him. “You’re going to be living here?”

“Yes.” She nodded confidently. “From today onward, I’ll be staying in this hotel. Since we’re going to be divorced, we can’t live together anymore.”

“We haven’t even gotten divorced yet. Even if we were divorced, do you think I would actually let you stay in a hotel?”

“I think it’s nice to be living in a hotel.”

Then, she pulled open the curtains to reveal the colorful lights outside the window. “The night view is gorgeous. Once I draw the curtains, the room is silent and tranquil. The bed is also very soft. I can

sleep well at night.”

“Do we not have any of that at home?”

“Of course, it does, but…”

There was so much she wanted to say that died on the tip of her tongue. In the end, she looked up and smiled at him. “From now on, that’s no longer my home.”

“We will now be living separately, Nicholas. We’ll live separate lives.”

Her words were extremely cruel.

This was a scenario she had nightmares of in the past. She was terrified that she would only day wake up to a divorce. One of her greatest fears was for the two of them to end up as two completely unrelated strangers who never saw each other ever again.

Still, it was an undeniable fact that people were ever-changing.

It was just like how the one who wanted to end everything and cut off all ties between them was now her, not him.

Before, she would have thought it was the end of the world. Now, she realized that she was also capable of casually proposing divorce.

“We aren’t divorced yet, Nancy,” he angrily said.

“We’ll be divorced soon, right?”

“Dream on.”

Suddenly, he surged forward to lift her on his shoulder after blurting that out.

She was shocked to be abruptly swept off her feet. As she smacked him, she shouted, “What are you doing, Nicholas? Put me down!”

“We’re going home.”

He opened the door with a foot before carrying her out of the hotel.

“Let me go, Nicholas. I’m not going back.”

“Put me down!”

He ignored her struggles and protests.

In the end, she was forcefully shoved into his car.

Once inside, he immediately locked the doors and windows. Thus, she had no choice but to sit in the car, trapped without a way out.

When the car pulled to a stop at home, she thought she could seize the chance to escape. She was wrong. He instantly got out of the car and carried her straight into the house.

“You’re mad, Nicholas! Let me go!”

“Do you know what this is? It’s kidnapping, I’m telling you.”

He did not say a word as he continued walking with her on his shoulder.

He kept walking to the bedroom, where he then placed her on the bed.

She instantly moved to get up, but he swiftly leaned down and grabbed her two arms to pin her on the bed.

His breath was hot with rage. “I will never agree to it, Nancy. You’re my wife. You need to live in our home.”

She could clearly feel his wrath.

She couldn’t help but find it strange. Just what did he have to be angry over?

Was this not what he dreamed of?

“As I’ve said before, I want a divorce,” she resolutely stated as she looked up at him.

However, he was acting like he did not hear her. He opened the closet and pulled out a few of his clothes. “I know you haven’t wanted to see me for the past two days. I’ll sleep in the guest bedroom. You’ll stay here and calm down.”

“How long will that be?”

“Until you give up on the notion of divorce,” he replied.

She scoffed in disdain, “What if I never give up on that, Nicholas? Will you be locking me up for the rest of my life?”

There was silence.

He did not speak.

Instead, he strode out of the room with his clothes in his arms.

No one could have known that he was rushing out of the room because he was scared. He was afraid that if he listened to another word she said and looked into her eyes one more time, he would cave into her demands.

That evening, he did not sleep at all.

He lit one cigarette after another. Once they got a divorce, they would become nothing but strangers. That was something he used to yearn for.

Yet, when the day finally arrived, he realized he did not find any joy in the prospects of that

future.

All he felt was sorrow and upset.

He felt like his entire chest was about to explode from how discomfited he was.

Every time she mentioned divorce, his heart would go tight.

He had never felt so much agony before. He did not feel so much pain when he broke Madelline, nor did he feel that when he sent her overseas.

Oddly, the thought of divorcing Nancy, of being separated from her, becoming a stranger to her. and even watching helplessly as she fell in love with another man, finally marrying that man and giving birth to that man’s child…

The mere thought felt like someone was tearing his heart into pieces.

She was his.

Nancy was his.

She was the wife of Nicholas Sallow.

How could she ever belong to anyone else?

No. He would not accept it. Absolutely not.

That evening was exceptionally quiet yet also bright.

The moon’s glow shone through the sheer curtains, lighting up the entire room with a pleasant glow.

It was a beautiful night, but he felt no joy at all. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

When he walked to the master bedroom, Nancy was fast asleep as the moonlight was splayed across her face.

Her delicate face used to be framed by round and smooth cheeks. Now, her face was so gaunt that she looked like just skin and bones.

While her eyes remained closed, she was not sleeping well at all. Her slender brows were scrunched together as what seemed like tears shimmered on the ends of her long lashes.

Did she cry before falling asleep?

Why was she crying?

Was it because he did not agree to a divorce?

Did she want a divorce that badly?

His hand hovered above her face as he carefully smoothed out her brows.

Perhaps it was because of the gentle caress. Perhaps she sensed the warmth and his familiar scent. because she stopped frowning in her sleep. She slowly relaxed under his touch. Her sleeping face looked much more peaceful now.

His fingers softly traced over her face in an extremely tender gesture. It was like he was stroking an extremely precious treasure that he could not bear to be parted from.

“I’m sorry, Nancy. I’m the scoundrel. I did wrong by you.”

“Did you know, though? I don’t want a divorce. I don’t want it at all.”
