Salute To The General

Chapter 2714

Chapter 2714

Nathan had been through storm and rain in life.

It was clear as day to him that Figaro was the one behind Hideo and Bentley's genius idea of the foreign cultural street, so it was taken as read that Nathan disliked Figaro.

"Why should I inform you? Are you trying to say I can't come without giving prior notice?" Nathan questioned coldly. "Does it mean you guys are gonna tear my clothes off, break my legs, and throw me out?"

Figaro was terrified when Nathan spoke sarcastically to him.

He dropped to his knees and implored Nathan for mercy with a shaky voice, "That was not what I meant, President Cross! I was just thinking that I could give you a warm welcome if I were informed of your coming. Nothing of this sort would have happened if I'd known earlier!"

"I see. Are you trying to say that if you'd known I was coming, you would have had time to cover up whatever that was happening down that cultural street, along with all the thugs I saw?" Nathan interrogated.

"Is that what you meant by 'a warm

welcome"?"

Figaro's face paled at Nathan's forthright questions. He did not know how else to defend himself under Nathan's scrutiny.

"Figaro Labarge! You have no idea how disgusting this place is," Nathan rebuked. "You'll be held accountable for this. You'd better get ready for an official inquiry. Get someone else to fill in your place, and for now, pray to God that they don't find out about any other illicit deals you're involved in. Because if they do, you'll be in deep trouble."

Nathan's warning resounded like a rumble of thunder in Figaro's ears.

That will be the end of me!

Figaro was shaking in fear when he realized the severity of the problem. Back when Bentley, Hideo, and the others had tried to push through with the project, there had been a lot of opposition from the locals. But with Figaro's help, they had managed to silence the residents.

During that time, Figaro had pocketed some money from them.

Since the President had instructed that an investigation be launched against him, Figaro had a bad feeling about what was in store for him. He was certain that all the records about his corrupted dealings would be brought to light. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

He knew he was risking not only his position but also his freedom. He might well end up in jail.

Judging from Figaro's reaction, Nathan was positive that this person's conscience was not clear. This only made that man more repulsive to Nathan. "So, do you have any questions regarding my order?" Nathan asked.

"Everything is understood, President

Cross," Figaro replied timidly, his head low. "I will find someone else to replace me and do everything I can to cooperate with the investigation."

"Good. As for all of you," Nathan said, turning toward Figaro's men, "feel free to come clean about anything y'all have done. If you choose to wait until we find out about any of your crooked deeds, there will be no chance of a reduced sentence."

Everyone became restless at that moment.

While everyone was looking at each other uneasily, Colin went closer to Nathan. "President Cross, what should we do with them?" he asked, eyeing Hideo, Bentley, and Big Bull, who had fainted because of the

UMS

scare.

"They will be disposed in accordance with the law."

Colin nodded and turned toward the police he had brought. "Do as you're told."

Quade, the head of the criminal investigation unit of Jinrich, went into action right away. "Take them with us. Don't go easy on them." "Yes, Sir!"

Soon enough, Bentley, Hideo, and the rest were apprehended and lugged away. Those who were injured were sent to the hospital, while the others were brought away by law enforcers.

As for Figaro himself, he went back to his office to prepare for a transition before he reported himself to the relevant authority.

Meanwhile, the street was sealed and prohibited from continuing its business.

The public was excited when they found out that the President had come himself to look into the matter. Many of them applauded his just handling of the issue.

When Nathan saw the crowd, he greeted them with a welcoming smile.

At the end of the multitude of

people, a strapping young man in a black suit stood watching from afar. He narrowed his eyes as his gaze eventually fell on Penny, whowas standing beside Nathan.

The man was exceptionally dashing. A quick glance was enough to tell him apart from the regular crowd. He had a noble and aristocratic demeanor, and his skin was fair.

In fact, his skin was so fair it looked unhealthy.

His devilish gaze was locked

unwaveringly on Penny as if he was

looking at the finest wine he had

ever tasted, but a hint of wariness

shone in his eyes when Nathan came into his view.

Hostility oozed in the air as the young man glared at Nathan.

On the other side, Nathan felt that someone was looking at him from the back as he walked away.

He turned back and directed his gaze toward the foreign young man, but when he looked over, the place the man stood was already empty.

It was as if the man had disappeared completely.

Nathan stared at the empty space and then slowly shifted his view toward the entrance to the dark alley. Hmm...

"What's the matter?" a soft voice asked. Penny realized Nathan was disturbed.

"Nothing,” he replied shortly, taking one last look at the alley.
