“I’ve come to visit a friend of mine,” Skylar replied coolly. Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

Aiken added, “Me too.

Vera’s eyes darted between theth. What a coincidence. Here to see friends?

While she was walking over, Vera noticed how Aiken had been staring at Skylar. It didn’t seem like an innocent look.

“Ms. Sullivan, I was wondering whether you’d be able to spend half an hour having some coffee with me?”

Skylar knew that Vera wouldn’t give up easily. She tried repeatedly to talk to her alone, and if she failed this time, she would only try again.

With that in mind…

“Alright.”

Half an hour later, they walked into a café opposite the hospital. At this hour, there weren’t many people in there.

After sitting down, Skylar ordered a cup of water. Vera got a coffee. She sipped at it. Then, she glanced up at Skylar.

She had to admit that Skylar was extremely composed despite the fact that she’d been brought up in a relatively poor family in the village. Vera didn’t believe Skylar wasn’t curious about why she’d asked her to meet twice.

Vera couldn’t make sense of why Joe married Skylar. They didn’t look particularly in love.

“Get to the point, Ms. Ruell.” Skylar glanced at the clock before meeting Vera’s inquisitive gaze.

Vera smiled and said, “I know you and Joe are married.”

Skylar’s eyes flashed. She asked, “So?”

“I would like to know how you met Joe. Based on my understanding, the two of you hadn’t seen each other much. Was it… a flash marriage?” Vera scrutinized Skylar to see her reaction.

She wanted to know why Joe would agree to the flash marriage with Skylar. What about her made Joe. indulge in such an impulsive decision? Just because she could restore antiques?

Many people had similar abilities in Jipsburg. That definitely wasn’t the reason why he did so.

Vera found out Skylar had a boyfriend during her research. He’d left Jipsburg now.

Skylar could abandon her high–school sweetheart for Joe. How heartless. She was really a scheming

woman.

Her eyes were dark as she shot back with a twisted smile, “Why should I tell you this? These are my private matters. If you’re curious about things between Joe and I, go ask him yourself.”

Skylar couldn’t get a read on Vera. She could’ve had this conversation with Joe. Why was she insistent on talking to Skylar?

Vera’s expression changed. She commented, “I think you harbor strong animosity toward me. This is just a casual chat.”

She was extremely alert. Her marriage with Joe must’ve been a product of her schemes, exactly as Vera expected.

Skylar sipped at her water. Then, she grinned mockingly and replied, “I didn’t think we were close enough friends to have casual chats. I’ve got something to do, so I’ll take my leave now.”

“Wait! Do you harbor such animosity against me because you’re scared Joe will divorce you for me? After you set out those two conditions for us, you’ve made it clear that feelings don’t matter to you. Money is what matters.” Vera scanned Skylar judgementally.

The more she spoke, the more she felt like she’d hit the nail on the head.

Skylar glared at Vera coldly. “Are you done?”

“No. Since we’re on the topic, I’ll be honest with you. Joe and I have known each other for years. We knew that we’d get married back then. Our marriage would be a great help to our families.

“I’ve been too capricious recently. I ignored his opinions in my pursuit of freedom and left him to take on the world himself. Then, he waited for me for years. You know why you two married each other. Thus, I would like you to propose for divorce with Joe. You can ask me for anything. I’ll agree to it.” Vera came clean about her plans.
