Richest Mogul 1158
After the door swung shut again, Natalie turned to look at Austin. The apartment was eerily silent for a moment, so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
Natalie was slow to register what had just happened. She could still feel the warmth of his lips on her, and her lips felt slightly swollen.
If she didn’t understand what was happening, then she would be as clueless as a naïve young girl. “Mr. Powell, are you… drunk?” she asked.
There had been a faint taste of alcohol during their kiss.
That had to be it. If Austin hadn’t been drinking, he wouldn’t have acted that way with her.
“I’m not drunk,” Austin replied directly.
Natalie was left speechless, staring at him in shock. If he wasn’t drunk, she couldn’t help but wonder why he had kissed her.
“It’s exactly what you think. Someone approached you and urged you to quit, right? How much did she offer you?” Austin’s intense gaze fixated on the dazed woman before him.
He had waited patiently for Natalie to understand his feelings. Instead, all he got was her
resignation.
Natalie was still somewhat bewildered. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Noticing that Natalie was still in a daze, Austin suddenly took her hand, leading her inside and guiding her to sit on the couch.
“Whoever is looking for you must be my family’s butler,” he continued.
“What?” Natalie exclaimed, her eyes widening in shock. She thought, “Wasn’t it supposed to be your
mother?”
“They know I’ve recently developed feelings for someone, so I’ve stayed in Jipsburg and not gone home. That’s why they reached out to you. Natalie, now do you understand how I feel about you?” Austin said in a low, serious tone.
But Natalie’s mind wasn’t focused on his feelings. She was caught up in thoughts about Jessica and the implications of him not going home.
Suddenly, she recalled some plotlines that only appeared in TV dramas.
“So, you’re the type of celebrity who just plays around in the entertainment industry while back home there’s a vast family fortune waiting for you to inherit?”
Austin sighed slightly at her words. “That’s pretty much the case.”
There was a family business waiting for him. Had he not met Natalie, he would have long since left the entertainment industry and returned home.
Natalie blinked in surprise. “If your rivals find out, they’ll definitely be furious. Many believe you come from a humble background, which is why you’ve worked so hard to get to where you are today.”
There were countless articles making similar claims.
During her college days, she would empathize with Austin when reading those articles. She viewed him as a role model for many. She believed that anyone could reach the top if they just worked hard enough,
But now she realized that Austin had started at the top.
What a refreshing twist to the story. It was something only novels dared to portray. No wonder he remained unfazed when Jeremy had him blacklisted.
After all, he could always leave the industry and return home to inherit his family’s wealth. As Austin observed Natalie’s expression shift rapidly, he understood her thoughts were wandering. She hadn’t even considered why he kissed her or thought to complain.
She didn’t mention feeling humiliated or unhappy when Jessica threw a check at her.
“They would indeed be furious once they find out. What about you?” he asked.
Natalie blinked again. “I’m happy for you, Mr. Powell. No matter what threats come your way, they won’t harm you.
Austin smirked slightly. “No one can harm you either.”
Upon hearing that, Natalie felt herself growing calmer. Her smile began to fade, becoming slightly rigid. She had learned from experience to avoid certain pitfalls.
Austin had a powerful family backing him, which made her happy for him. However, Jessica was right. Things weren’t as simple as they seemed.
