Chapter 773
“Not yet, Skylar,” Jenny said, her voice laced with defiance. “Do you think I’m so easily pushed around? Are you happy now that Joe is distancing himself from me?”
“I’ll tell you something,” Jenny spat out angrily. “You won’t be laughing in the end. You two are bound to get divorced sooner or later!”
If she couldn’t have Joe, then neither could Skylar.
Skylar’s response was icy. “Whether I laugh in the end remains to be seen. But Jenny, you won’t even get that chance. Being delusional is a sickness. You should get that checked. And by the way, I don’t like you either.”
With that, Skylar ended the call and slipped her phone back into her bag.
Skylar understood that Jenny was young and prone to impulsive behavior, but the constant drama was beginning to wear on her patience. She probably ran into some trouble with Joe earlier today, and now she was taking it out on her.
Skylar thought Jenny was pathetic. She made her way downstairs a few minutes later to clock out. Just then, her phone rang again. It wasn’t Jenny; it was Natalie.
“Skye, guess where I am?” Natalie’s voice bubbled with excitement.
Skylar smiled and asked, “Where?”
“I’m at Yancey Residence. I came by to see Ms. Yancey and brought a ton of groceries. When you get home, you’ll have a hot meal waiting for you. Hurry back!”
Skylar stopped in her tracks. “You’re really at my place?”
“When have I ever lied to you? Hurry back! No more talking, I’m heading to the kitchen to get started.”
Skylar was surprised by Natalie’s sudden visit. They had only exchanged a few texts earlier, and Natalie had mentioned she planned to visit Janine
soon, but Skylar hadn’t expected her to show up so quickly.
When Skylar arrived home and opened the door, she was greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of food. Despite Natalie’s youthful exuberance and tendency to view things in black and white, she was an excellent cook.
Janine commented, “Nath’s cooking is incredible. I offered to help, but she insisted on doing everything herself. If she weren’t already married, I’d love to have her as a daughter–in–law.”
Janine’s admiration for Natalie was clear, though Skylar had not
mentioned Natalie’s divorce to her. Now was not the time to bring it up.
Skylar smiled and replied, “My brothers have always been focused on their careers.”
Janine had been troubled by the recent issues between Steven and Annie.
“Well, a strong focus on one’s career isn’t a bad thing,” Janine mused thoughtfully. She reflected on Steven’s tumultuous relationships in the past, believing that love couldn’t be rushed. When the time was right, everything would fall into place.
Skylar entered the kitchen, where Natalie was still cooking. Hearing Skylar’s footsteps, Natalie glanced up from the stove. “You’re back already? Was there no traffic?”
“The roads were clear, so I got lucky. Is there more cooking to be done?” Skylar asked.
Natalie replied, “Just the last dish. You can wait in the living room.”
“Okay,” Skylar responded.
An hour later, after dinner, Skylar and Natalie took a leisurely walk around the complex. The area was small and cozy, filled with elderly residents. They strolled slowly, enjoying the peaceful evening.
“If something’s bothering you, you should talk to me about it,” Natalie said, her concern evident. She had recently learned unsettling news–Joe and Vera were high school classmates, and Vera had been Joe’s past love.
The series of paparazzi shots seemed orchestrated by Joe himself. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Natalie thought it must be true. After all, there had been no recent news about Skylar and Joe, despite their marriage.
