Chapter 981
Sophie waited until everyone had left before asking, "Has James been taken to the interrogation room?"
"Yeah, he's in there now. It's not a good time for visitors," Detective Miller said, looking uncomfortable.
Sophie fell silent for a moment. She had rushed from the hospital to find out why James had done something so out of character. James wasn't known for being impulsive or reckless. Something had to be off. "I'll wait here until James can come out," she said, sitting down on a nearby chair.
Detective Miller, seeing her determination, said reluctantly, "The interrogation will probably go all night. Mrs. Costello, I heard Colby got hurt. You should be with him. It's not good if he's alone. Tomorrow morning, if we have any news, I'll make sure you're the first to know."This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Sophie was indeed worried about Colby's injury. If the police station wasn't so close to the hospital, she wouldn't have been able to come over to find out what was going on with James. Realizing she would have to wait overnight, Sophie stood up. "As soon as there's news, let me know. I'll be at the hospital next door."
"Don't worry, Mrs. Costello. As soon as we know something, I'll send someone to find you!" Detective Miller reassured her.
Sophie nodded and left the police station. After she left, Detective Miller wiped the sweat from his forehead. Rick emerged from a corner and said, "Mr. Costello's car is parked out back. Just let James go." "But... what if Mrs. Costello asks about it tomorrow morning? What am I supposed to say?" Detective Miller asked.
"Just say the Burke family settled it with money, and we had no choice but to release him," Rick replied.
Detective Miller nodded and immediately ordered for James to be released through the back door.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Colby
had just come out of surgery.
William said, "For now, no strenuous activities no spicy food, stick to soft foods, and you'll be fine. And
remember, there are two kinds of strenuous activities I'm talking
about. You get what I mean, right?"
Adler added, "I was so freaked out when I got the call in the middle of the night! Who knew it was just a small stab wound from a pocket knife? I worried for nothing."
"Right? And he was still complaining about the pain getting into the car," William said, shaking his head.
"Cough, cough!" Sophie knocked on the door of the hospital room.
Seeing Sophie, William and Adler made quick excuses to leave. "Actually, I just remembered, Jenna wanted a midnight snack. I'll go join her," William said.
"I'll come too! Midnight snack sounds good," Adler added as they hurried out of the room, playfully shoving each other.
Sophie walked over to Colby's bed, noticing his wounds were properly dressed. "They told me this wound is nothing to you," she said.
"Who said that? It really hurts," Colby replied, making a face as he pointed to the wound on his lower abdomen. "Anydower, and our happy life would have been in jeopardy."
"Stop it! The kidneys are higher up, your wound is lower. How can it be the same?" Sophie said, relieved
playfully poked his chest. "Next
see Colby joking around. She
time
you make me worry like this, 'll bite you!"
