Chapter 977
Sophie shook her head and said, "I'm not sure, but keeping them close is always a safe bet. We're not restricting their freedom, just keeping things under reasonable control." At that moment, Adler came downstairs, saying, "Why are we just chatting in the living room? Let's watch some TV."
With that, Adler turned on the television.
The TV blared with the latest news report.
"Burke International's CEO is suspected of murdering his wife and is currently missing. The police are investigating, and the case is developing."
Hearing the news, Jenna and Adler instinctively looked at Sophie.
Adler quickly raised his hands, looking panicked. "I swear, it was random! I just turned on the TV and it happened to be this news!"
"Alright, chill," Jenna lightly scolded Adler. "Murder or not, this screams fake news. Someone like James getting his hands dirty? Please."
Sophie frowned and immediately headed upstairs.
She saw the study door closed, with Rick standing guard. "I need to see Mr. Gordon," she said.Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
"Mr. Gordon is unwell and not seeing visitors."
"Cut the crap."
Sophie pushed past Rick and opened the door.
Inside, Gordon lay in bed, surrounded by foreign doctors checking on him. Sophie was taken aback.
Rick pulled Sophie out, saying, "Ms. Sophie, Mr. Gordon is undergoing a routine check-up. He's truly feeling unwell. Please, leave for now. Once he wakes up, he'll see you." Sophie had seen Gordon's pale face, clearly not faking it.
But just yesterday, Gordon looked fine.
Why was his condition fluctuating so much?
Sophie waited in the room for over an hour. Seeing her downcast expression, Colby stood behind her, massaging her shoulders. "Is it because of James's news?" he asked, his tone laced with jealousy.
Not wanting Colby to
misunderstand, Sophie explained "I'm not worried about him. I just feel that doing this... it might make me owe him a favor."
Nichole was dead. There was no longer any tie between her and James.
Even if James had traded Burke International for Bea's life, she never believed Bea's life was as valuable as Burke International.
If she really took over Burke International, she would be entangled with James again.
"You have a point. He wants to use
the company to make my wife owe him a favor. I should learn this trick
to make my wife owe me more," Colby said playfully.
"I'm serious!" Sophie retorted.
Sophie hadn't expected Gordon to actually use such news to strike at James.
If Nichole was indeed killed by James, and the police began an investigation, James would hardly escape punishment.
"I'm serious too," Colby said earnestly, looking at her. "I'm the jealous type. If you have another man in your heart, I'd be insanely jealous." Sophie blushed at Colby's words. Just then, her phone rang.
She picked it up, seeing an unknown number.
Sophie had a bad feeling. Hesitantly, she answered, and James's voice came through, "I have something I need to discuss with you alone."
