Chapter 1074
Jonah shook his head, clearly baffled.
Seeing Jonah's reaction, Odie felt even more certain of his suspicions.
"Sophie just loves everything about Colby, so she's obviously trying to make him look good in front of me!" Odie's anger grew the more he thought about it. "Seriously, what right does she have to bust into my place like that? I didn't lay a finger on him! Acting like I plotted to hurt Colby? Just thinking about it pisses me off!"
"Boss, Sophie and Colby are newlyweds. It's only natural she'd be protective. Besides, this mess wasn't really your doing... Griffin's the one who used you to hurt Colby, driving a wedge between the two of you."
Odie nodded in agreement but then quickly snapped, "Hold up! What kind of relationship do Colby and I have that Griffin needs to mess with? If you can't make sense, just shut up!"
"Boss..."
Fed up with Sophie's meddling, Odie's frustration peaked. "Get out of my sight!"
"... Yes, boss."
"Wait! Come back!" Odie ordered, "Post someone at the hospital. The moment Colby wakes up, I want to know. I'm not taking the fall for this!"
"Yes, boss."
While Jonah nodded, he knew Odie was just putting on a tough act. Over the years, Odie had talked big about building up his power to get back at Colby, but he hadn't managed a single act of revenge. Instead, he always ended up with nothing but setbacks.
Could anyone be more unlucky than their boss?
At the hospital, Sophie rushed in just as Colby was moved to the ICU. The doctor emerged from the room and said, "Ms. Sophie, the patient is out of danger but is still weak. He'll need a few days of observation. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
"Thank you, doctor. Can I see him now?"
"Absolutely, he's awake. It's good for family to talk to him."
With that, the doctor left. Sophie entered the room to find Colby pale and half-lying on the hospital bed, with a smile in his eyes.
Sophie couldn't understand what there was to smile about. After all he'd been through, how could Colby manage to smile?
"Aren't you always claiming to be the toughest, the one nobody dares to mess with? How did you end up in such a sorry state?" Her tone was reproachful, yet full of concern.
"It was my oversight. I promise, it won't happen again." Colby grasped Sophie's hand. Looking at him lying there, she asked, "Was it really an oversight, or did you do it on purpose?"
"It was an oversight." Worried Sophie might not believe him, Colby stretched out his hand. "I swear!"
He truly hadn't expected Griffin to
appear out of nowhere, causing him a moment of distraction. Besides, when the three of them worked as enforcers for the White family,
Griffin's skills were no less the ne
his.
Their confrontations were always a matter of inches, but those inches could mean life or death in a critical moment.
"You better be telling the truth." Sophie tapped Colby's forehead. "Don't forget, you're a married man now, not the lone wolf Colby of the past. you dare make me a widow at such a young age, I swear remarry the moment you're gone!"
Colby, with utter seriousness, said, "I promise, you won't have the chance to remarry."
