Sophie took off her sunglasses and sat up from her sun lounger. Angelo, who was having the time of his life on the beach, noticed and asked, "Sophie, heading back already?"
"Yeah, it's about time," Sophie replied, casually tossing her sunglasses aside.
In the distance, Colby parked the car and walked over to Sophie, draping a coat over her shoulders. "Your flight's booked, Mrs. Costello. Vacation's over."
"Heading back? Perfect!" Angelo exclaimed, unable to hide his excitement. He almost jumped for joy. Finally, it was over! He couldn't describe how much he'd endured here. The artists and staff had been living it up on his dime, and now it was his turn to kick back at the Burke Estate in Devonport.
Sophie glanced at the still frolicking employees and called out, "Alright, everyone, time to head back. We've got a mountain of work waiting for us, so let's get it together and not slack off."
The artists, who had been partying hard for days, raised their champagne glasses and shovels with glee. "Don't worry, boss! Watch us turn things around!"
Sophie smiled. Elodie might be good at nurturing talent, but nurturing and retaining talent are two different things. She and Elodie were never alike. "Should I call you shrewd or just carefree? You're really okay with putting me out there 'to work'? Not worried at all?" he asked.
Sophie whispered, "What's there to worry about? Our wedding's in a few days-you're not going anywhere."
"I wouldn't dream of it. Not in this lifetime, not in the next," Colby replied.
