Chapter 158 Sucking Up

When Irene returned to the hospital, she saw that Edric was playing with Eden in the ward. It was such

a happy, blissful scene. Eden couldn't help but get excited when he saw Irene had arrived. "Mom! Edric

said that when I get discharged, he'll take me boating at the park. Can you come with us?"

"Sure." Irene didn't want to disappoint Eden, hence she decided to play along with it.

"Edric also said that he would give me a toy boat that can shoot water! Next time I'll be able to play with

my toy boat in the pool." Irene gazed at Edric with a blank expression. Edric was clearly trying to bribe

Eden by giving him toys, but Irene would not let him get his way. "Eden, have you forgotten what I told

you? If you like a toy, you can ask me to buy it for you. But you're not allowed to take things from

strangers."

"But Edric said that's a limited edition toy, most people won't be able to get it." Eden pouted.

"If I can't buy it, you can ask Nathan to buy it for you. Uncle Nathan is not like most people. He's a

superman!" Irene crouched down to meet Eden's eye level.

"That's right! Nathan is a big CEO; he's extraordinary." Eden's eyes lit up. "Edric, I don't want your toy

boat anymore. My mom says I can't accept gifts from strangers, so I'm sorry."

Suddenly, Edric's smile faded a little, and his eyes grew dark. Irene was completely shutting him out!

Irene was still fuming from her encounter with Margaret a while ago. She felt so vexed to see Edric's

face at this moment. If Eden wasn't there with them, she would have kicked him out right there and

then. For Eden's sake, she had to suppress her anger. After she coaxed Eden into sleeping, her

expression flipped to a serious one and she said, "Mr. Myers, please don't come here again, okay?"

"Why? Didn't you agree to let me stay with Eden until he recovered?" asked Edric.

"Yes, at first. The circumstances have changed now." Irene looked at Edric coldly. "Nathan and I are

getting married soon. Eden also sees Nathan as his father. You have no right to be here!"

"Are you worried that I would be a hindrance to your marriage?" There was hurt in Edric's eyes. "Irene,

you said that you wouldn't stop me and Eden from spending time together. What is going on?"

"For someone like you who goes back on his word, there is no need for me to keep my word." Irene

didn't mince her words at all. "Edric, I know what you are up to. But I'm telling you now, I will never

compromise. If you have something planned up your sleeve, bring it on!"

Edric was stupefied for a moment and immediately reacted, "Did my mother say something to you

again?"

Irene sneered. "Don't pretend like you don't know. Be a man and admit it. Don't push everything to your

mother like a child."

Edric's face turned pale and he left the hospital without saying a word. He needed to see Margaret and

ask her what tricks she was up to again. In the face of his aggressive questioning, Margaret answered

calmly, "Son, I am doing this for your own good. Irene is about to marry Nathan. I just want to stop her."

Breathless with raging fury, Edric had nothing to say to Margaret. He called John and said, "Send a

private jet to take Mrs. Myers away immediately!"

"I'm not leaving!" Margaret started to panic when she saw his ferocity.

Edric didn't care. "Mom, you have to leave this time. There's no room for discussion!"

Margaret sat down dejectedly. It seemed that she had no choice but to return this time. It was Joanne's

horrible idea that got her in this mess. She called Joanne angrily and chastised her, but Joanne was far

from bothered. "Congratulations, Mrs. Myers. You'll soon be able to fulfill your wishes!"

"What are you talking about? Don't make flippant remarks!" hissed Margaret.

"Have you forgotten about the Plan B I told you about? Isn't this the perfect opportunity?" Margaret's

eyes lit up when she was reminded of the backup plan. Her anger subsided at once. This was indeed a

perfect opportunity for her!

Eden stayed at the hospital to be treated for one more day. The next day, he was discharged and Irene

brought him home. Coincidentally, it was his birthday that day. Hence, Nathan had already planned a

small birthday celebration at home to cheer him up.

Nathan had invited quite a few children from the neighborhood to join in. Eden had been bored out of

his mind at the hospital. Thus, after receiving so many gifts and having so many people celebrate with

him, he was extremely happy. As they sang a birthday song for him, Eden, Irene and Nathan blew out

the candle together. Then Eden put his hands together and started to make a wish.

After the wish, Nathan asked him curiously, "Tell me, what did you wish for?"

Eden whispered a few words into Nathan's ear. Nathan smiled and kissed Eden's cheek a few times.

Britney and Irene were very curious. "Well, what did Eden wish for?"

"I can't tell you guys, if I were to mention it, it won't come true," Eden refused.

"You've already told Nathan, why can't you tell me?" Irene became jealous.

"Okay, I'll tell you. My wish is for Nathan to become my father," Eden answered in a childish tone.

Edric had just appeared at the door with a gift in his hand. He knew that it was Eden's birthday;

therefore, he came over to the White family. He had turned up right after selecting a gift for him. Just as

he arrived, he saw Eden making a wish. He was curious as well as what Eden had wished for. But

when he heard Eden say his wish out loud, Edric's smile disappeared immediately.

Joanne saw Edric at the door, and a cold grin appeared on her face. "Eden, since you like Nathan so

much, why don't you call him dad?"

"No, I can't call him dad yet. I have made a mistake before." Eden was talking about Jordan. He had

always liked Nathan as his father; Jordan even told him that he was the man Irene liked and that Eden

should call him dad. He felt that Jordan was a good man so he did as he was told. But in the end,

Jordan left him and Irene. "I can only call him dad after Nathan and my mother get married!"

Irene glanced at Nathan without thinking. When her eyes met Nathan's starry eyes, she lowered her

head. Eden stared at them excitedly. "Mom, I really want a dad. Please get married to Nathan quickly,

so I can call him dad!"

Upon hearing Eden's pleading voice, Irene felt a pain in her heart. She felt sorry for him. Then, a beam

appeared on her face. "I will marry Nathan tomorrow!"

"Great! I finally have a father!" Eden was extremely excited. He hugged Irene and kissed him a few

times. Then he went over to kiss Nathan. Britney also broke into a smile when she saw how happy

Eden was. "Go and register your marriage first tomorrow. I'll get someone to start planning the wedding

immediately. I will arrange a grand wedding for the two of you!"

"Grandma, please don't bother." Irene was embarrassed.

"Yes! I must! Nathan is getting married! How could we keep this a discreet affair? I will invite everyone

famous I know!" A chilly simper flashed across Joanne's face when she heard Britney's words. In a

flash, she picked up her wine glass and said, "Congratulations, Nathan! Congratulations, Irene! I wish

you both a lifetime of happiness!"

Irene was a little surprised at Joanne's dramatic change in attitude. "Doesn't she want me to stay away

from Nathan?" Irene wondered. She picked up her glass and accepted Joanne's blessings together

with Nathan.

"Mom, I want to be the page boy!" Eden interrupted.

"Sure, let Eden be our page boy!" Nathan chortled and looked at Irene, his eyes dripping with

tenderness.

Edric stood blankly at the door as the scene before him unfolded. When he heard everyone

congratulating the happy couple, he felt a sense of despair in his heart. For Irene and Eden, Nathan

was family. Meanwhile, Edric was just an outsider. No matter what he did, he could not change Irene's

view of him. He could not stay there any longer. He gently placed the toy on the ground and turned to

leave the White family.

He didn't know where to go. He walked aimlessly on the street for some time until he finally felt tired.

He sat down on the side of the road. A lovey-dovey couple walked past him. The smiles on their faces

were so beautiful and warm. He used to have something as beautiful as what they had; how could he

have lost her?

A gentle voice suddenly echoed in his ears. "Edric, I love you, forever and always!" The vow remained

as vivid as if it was the day before when Irene made this promise. He sat at the edge of the street and

stared at the colorful night sky. He tried to fight back his tears but it was futile. He was a business

As per Edric's instructions, John immediately sent a private jet to collect Margaret. Worried that

Margaret would not get on the jet, John personally came along. When he arrived in Mencodia, he

couldn't find Edric anywhere. John was anxious because Edric wasn't answering his phone. Did

He had no idea how to look for Edric; therefore, he headed to the White family home. Eden's birthday

party had already ended. Irene took Eden upstairs to have a rest while the servants were cleaning up

the living room. When he saw a toy boat by the door, Eden was ecstatic. "What a cool toy boat! I

wonder who gave this to me."

Irene was dumbstruck. She recalled the other day Edric said that he wanted to give a toy boat to Eden.

Was he the one who sent this? But why would he not come in if he had dropped by? Did he overhear

the news about her and Nathan getting married the next day?

Eden didn't know what Irene was thinking. He hugged the toy boat happily and said, "Edric said he

would give me a toy boat that day, but he didn't come today." His words were tainted with

disappointment.

Irene came to her senses and patted his head. "Edric is the one who gave you this."

"Where is he? Why didn't he come to see me? I haven't said thank you to him yet." Eden pouted. He

really liked Edric.

"You can thank him another time." Irene stroked Eden's hair. Suddenly, Nathan came over and said,

"Just now, Edric's executive assistant, John dropped by. He said that Edric was missing and he couldn't

find him anywhere. Edric's phone can't be reached either. I'll go with John to search for him."
