“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. I only recognize Isabel as my granddaughter–in–law. You better keep that girl by your side in check. If I want to deal with her, I have plenty of ways to do

it.*

“Go ahead and try!”

The tension in the atmosphere was palpable.

At this moment, a maid came over and reported, “Excuse me, Madam Sonia and Mr. Anderson. Ms. Hailey is here and wants to

see Mr. Anderson.”

Sonia snapped, “How dare she come to the Barlow Estate! Tell her

to leave.”

The maid hesitated. “Ms. Hailey says she won’t leave until she

sees Mr. Anderson.”

Sonia said, “Then tell her to wait.”

Hailey stood outside the tightly closed courtyard gate while enduring the scorching sun. She had been standing outside for quite a long while. Her lips were chapped, and her face was pale. She looked like she might faint at any time.

Eventually, she saw someone coming out. It was Caroline, a maid who had been serving Sonia for many years.

“Mr. Anderson won’t see you. You should leave now. Today is Mr. George’s death anniversary. You shouldn’t be here.”

Suddenly, another maid dumped a basin of dirty water over Hailey. The foul–smelling water drenched her from head to toe. “The

daughter of a bitch is as disgraceful as expected. If it weren’t for that shameless mother of yours, Mr. George wouldn’t have died of anger. If you don’t leave now, I’ll break your leg.”

Suddenly, Hailey tearfully knelt at the gate of the Barlow Estate. With clenched fists, she said slowly and firmly, “I had no choice in my birth. But no matter what, that’s still my mother. I beg of you, Andy, please let me see my mother. I’ll do whatever it takes!”

“In that case, kneel in front of Mr. George’s grave until the ceremony is over,” Sonia commanded. The maids stepped aside as she approached. Supported by Caroline, Sonia looked down at Hailey disdainfully.

She continued, “We don’t punish children for their parents ‘sins. However, Isabel, Anderson’s mother, and the Barlow family suffered because of your mother. Don’t feel aggrieved. Those hundred lives lost in the Barlow family were also innocent.

“I’ve sent your mother away. If you wish to see her, kneel until the ceremony ends.”

Despite the heat, Hailey shivered. “I don’t believe my mother is a murderer or the mastermind. She wouldn’t do such a thing.”

Sonia scoffed. “You should ask your mental mother about that.”

Indeed, Hailey’s mother had been driven insane by the Barlow family. When they found Hailey’s mother, they sent her to the mental asylum without Hailey’s knowledge.

“Grandma, regardless of what you say, I still believe that my mom wouldn’t harm anyone. My mom would never do such a thing. No one knows exactly what happened back then…” This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

Sonia said, “You’re just stubborn and ignorant.” She then said to the maids, “Lock her up until she admits her mistakes.”
