Julia’s words were full of hostility.
“Shut up!”
Mayra’s parents had always been her bottom line. She knew she had grown up without parental guidance, but even when she was lost and almost starving on the streets, she never stole anything from anyone.
Why did Julia have the right to judge her? How dare Julia speak to her like that?
Mayra took out the black card from her backpack and threw it at Julia. She then stormed out of the mansion without looking back.
“Ms. Sadler…”
Julia picked up the card from the floor. It was clear that Mayra’s true colors were showing in just a few days.
She was staying with the Barlow family purely for their money. Now, she even dared to steal Anderson’s bank card.
“Stop her. Korbin, call the police right now. She grew up without parental guidance and has resorted to petty theft.”
Mayra was quickly stopped by the maids. “What are you doing? Do I not even have the right to leave now?”
Julia’s face remained expressionless. “You can leave, but not now.”
“Let’s call the police first. Let them take you to the station so that you can reflect on your actions. When Mr. Anderson returns, he’ll see the kind of person he brought into the house.”
Mayra explained, “I didn’t steal anything. This card was given to me by Anderson.”
Julia’s eyes were filled with disdain “Save your explanations for Mr. Anderson when he returns.”
The police received a call from the Barlow mansion. They arrived promptly within half an hour.
It was hard to believe someone dared to steal from such a place. Did they have a death wish? Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
“I didn’t steal anything. This card was given to me by Andy! Why are you taking me away?” Mayra’s tears fell, but she didn’t cry out loud. She quickly wiped them away.
“Young lady, struggling won’t help. If you’re really Mr. Barlow’s sister, it’ll be a simple matter to clear up. You’ll be fine if you didn’t steal anything.”
At the police station, Mayra huddled in a corner of the holding cell, her whole body trembling.
She buried her face in her knees, the exposed skin of her arms bruised from the force used to bring her in.
A female officer examined the evidence and shook her head at her superior. “We’ve tried calling several times, but no one is answering.”
Her superior replied, “Looks like we’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Stealing a black card and using it to buy these items could mean a
life sentence.”
The female officer added, “This child here reminds me of a woman three years ago. She was imprisoned and tortured for three years before being sent to a mental hospital. She was in a similar
state.
“She was also terrified of being locked up again. Unfortunately, she couldn’t make it and chose to end her life.”
Thinking back, she thought that it was tragic.
That woman, a college graduate with a bright future, had her life ruined by such circumstances. When she was rescued, she was already mentally unstable.
Meanwhile, Julia rushed to the Barlow Estate.
Sonia had already retired for the night. Hearing about the incident, however, she got up and was helped downstairs by a maid.
“What’s going on in the middle of the night? What trouble has Mayra caused this time?”
