Whenever Anderson returned from a trip, Mayra loved bringing him to this alley filled with food trucks. She thought that once he became the
president of Everton Corporation, he’d look down on such places, but he still went along with her whims
Anderson didn’t need to lift a finger. Mayra did everything. She prepared the condiments, fetched two sets of cutlery, and placed a set in front of him. When the grilled food was ready, they sat in silence.
Mayra added some spicy sauce to her plate. Just as she was about to take a bite, Anderson switched her plate with his. “Your stomach can’t handle spice. Don’t eat it.”
She put down her fork and took the plate back. “A little won’t hurt.”
Anderson observed her, noting her displeasure. He decided to let her be. When did you start eating spicy food?”
After years of knowing her habits, he knew she never used to eat spicy
food.
“Quite a while ago. At first, I couldn’t stand it, but I got used to it. People’s tastes change over time. Trying new flavors now and then isn’t a big deal.”
Suddenly craving a cigarette, Anderson reached into his pocket. However, remembering she couldn’t stand the smell, he withdrew his hand.
“Mayra, when did you learn to criticize me so subtly?”
She kept her head down, quietly eating. Without looking up, she said, Andy, can you stop bringing other women home? I can’t control what you do outside, but I don’t like it…” This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
The thought of Anderson and Hailey being intimate in his bedroom last night weighed heavily on her chest. “If you feel like I’m in the way at home. I can… move to the school dorm. It’s close by anyway.”
Her voice was barely audible over the noise, but Anderson heard every
word dearly
She took two servings of each dish. Once she was nearly done, Anderson started eating, finishing what was left
Afterward, Anderson drove her back to school with the scent of the
barbecue lingering on him.
Shane asked, “Mr. Barlow, aren’t you going to explain things to Ms. Sandler?*
When she entered the school, Anderson looked away. “She doesn’t need to
know.”
At Fisher Residence, Alicia was standing at the door. Hailey had bought many jewelry pieces with her savings over the years.
Alicia was displeased. “You still have the nerve to show up here? Leave.
You’re not welcome.”
Hailey responded, “I’m sorry for what happened with Mr. Barlow. It caused a misunderstanding with Ms. Fisher. I’m here to apologize. I hope the Fisher family will reconsider the engagement.”
Alicia was dressed in an emerald dress. She had her hair up and wore a pearl necklace around her neck. Her expression was icy as she sat on the
couch.
Without glancing up, she replied, “Everyone knows you’re the Barlow
family’s eldest daughter. Our humble family can’t afford to offend you. Ms. Barlow, you should take your things and leave.”
Hailey pursed her lips and said, “May Espeak to Ms. Fisher? I can explain what happened that day.”
“Explain? What’s there to explain? Isabel told me everything. We outsiders can’t interfere with the Barlow family’s matters, but I didn’t expect Mr. Barlow to lower his standards so much.
“If he truly wants to marry Isabel, he should come and explain things himself, not send someone so indecent here. People might think our
family welcomes just anyone from the streets.“
