The banging on the door continued, punctuated by the sound of a fist pounding against. the wood. | could feel my heart racing in my chest, and | was finding it difficult to breathe. It seemed he was determined to break down my door to get to me.
| had told him many times that | didn’t want anything to do with him right now, but he didn’t seem to care. Nelly had been taken away from me by Alpha Kex, and | couldn't bear to face the world without her.
The knocking eventually died down, and | let out a breath | hadn't realized | had been. holding. But just as | began to relax, | heard the sound of splintering wood and saw the door fly open. Harry stood in the doorway, his eyes wild and full of concern..
“Are you alright?” he asked, his voice frantic. | rolled my eyes, annoyed by his presence. “Do | look alright to you?” | said, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
He stood there, his mouth agape, unsure of what to say. | could tell he was searching for the right words, but | wasn’t in the mood to listen.
He stepped towards me, and | recoiled, backing away until my back was pressed against the wall. He stopped, looking hurt and confused.
“| just want to help,” he said, his voice pleading. “I know you are in pain, and | want to be there for you.”
“The only way you can help me right now is to take me to Nelly,” | said, my voice soft and sincere.
“That’s impossible, Aisha,” he said, his face etched with sadness.

My heart sank, and | felt a surge of anger. “Then get out!” | yelled, pushing the of water he had brought me out of my reach.
It shattered on the floor, and | watched the water spill across the hardwood. | stared at the mess, my mind racing with thoughts.
| braced myself for the anger | was sure would come. | expected him to yell, to scream, or even to hit me. But instead, he knelt down and began to pick up the pieces of glass.

heart beating in my chest. | couldn't believe he was doing this, that he was caring for me in this way. | felt a wave of shame wash over me, and | looked away, unable to meet his
gaze.
| heard his footsteps approach the door, and | braced myself for his departure. | didn’t want him to leave, but | knew | had hurt him, and | couldn’t blame him for leaving. | watched as he opened the door, his back to me. | felt my wolf wince, the pain of hurting her mate tearing through her.
| took a deep breath, trying to quell the feeling. “I’m sorry,” | said, the words tumbling from my lips. He stopped in his tracks, his hand on the doorknob. He turned to face me, his eyes. searching mine.
Without another word, he left, the door closing quietly behind him. | shut my eyes, trying to keep the tears at bay. | knew I had done the wrong thing, and | regretted my actions. But | didn’t know what to do to fix it.
Should | go after him, apologize again? Or should | just let it go, and let him decide what to do next? | was at a loss, my emotions swirling inside me. | tried to take a deep breath, to steady myself. But my breath came out ragged, and my heart was racing.
The door opened again, and my heart sank as | saw him standing there. He sat down next to me, the space between us feeling like an ocean. He cleared his throat, the sound filling the silence.
“Do you want me as your mate or not?” he asked, his voice quiet but firm.
| swallowed the lump in my throat, my mouth dry. | looked down at my hands, not able to meet his gaze. “It’s not about you being my mate or not,” | said, my voice barely a whisper. “But | was just angry, and | just wanted to be alone because | didn’t know where Nelly was. It has nothing to do with whether | want you or not.”
His voice was soft, but his eyes were hard. “That’s not the answer to my question, Aisha,” he said, a hint of frustration in his tone.
| took a deep breath, trying to find the words to express what | was feeling. But the words were stuck in my throat, and | didn’t know how to get them out. He reached out and touched my hand, and | flinched at his touch.
“| just want to know where | stand, Do you want me as your mate or not?” He asked.
“| don’t know,” | said, my voice sounding small-
and scared.

| couldn't bring myself to look at him, my eyes searching the room for something, anything to focus on.
“Do you know how hard it is for me?” he asked, his voice soft. “My wolf jumps in joy whenever | see you, even when | see you in pain, he says.
“It's not easy for me either.” | snapped, my anger bubbling up to the surface.
“You are the one who put both of us in this situation. Don’t act like you are struggling, you have a choice.” “Have you ever asked me why I’m scared of this whole ‘mate’ thing?” | asked him, my voice shaking. He paused for a moment, his eyes searching mine. “Why are you scared?” he asked, his tone full of curiosity.
| sighed, not sure if | wanted to share my deepest fears with him. “Forget it,” | said, rolling my eyes and looking away. “I’m not going to be interrogated by you.”
He reached out, his hand touching my cheek. | turned to look at him, my heart pounding in my chest. “It's not an interrogation,” he said gently. “I just want to know, since you called my attention to it. Please, let’s talk about it.”
I let out a long sigh, my emotions swirling inside me. “I’m sorry, Harry,” | said, my voice breaking. “I don’t mean to be rude. It’s just...” | trailed off, not knowing how to express what | was feeling.
He looked at me, his expression full of compassion. “You don’t have to say anything you don’t want to,” he said softly. “But | do want to know. Did | not meet your expectations? Am | too controlling? Am | not attractive enough? | just want to know why my mate, the one | have been excited to see for a long time, saw me and is now contemplating whether to be mated to me.” His voice was tinged with sadness, and my heart ached for
him.
| took a deep breath, gathering my courage. “It’s not about you,” | said, my voice steady. “It's about me.”
He looked at me, confusion written all over his face. “What do you mean?”
| stood up to lock the door/when my wolf sensed someone’s presence, someone | could identify even in my sleep. | opened the door abruptly and the person almost fell.
