Chapter 86
It was hard to miss the blaring red spot on Holden’s face the next day when he came into the clinic, courtesy of Hayden, who was not amused when he found out he was the culprit in this mess and brought Elise to the pub.
Elise barely spared a glance at Holden, still annoyed that he knew what was happening and let her go in there just to see Hayden with another woman.
“Ouch! Can you f**g stop that?” He hissed at Elise, as she put a warm cloth to clean the bloodied area. Abby had asked her for a favor to clean his bl**dy face.
“Sit still,” she hissed, not sorry for his pain. She was holding back from laughing at his face; he deserved it. She wanted to add another punch, too.
“Don’t you have healing powers or something like that? So much for being on my side.”
“I am not on your side; you called b**t and you found out the consequences; what did you even gain for letting me see that?” Elise hissed, dropping the warm cloth back into a bowl.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
“I thought I’d spice up your relationship if you’d see how good of a gigolo my brother is; that would make you see what he is like. Oh, come on, don’t act like you haven’t seen how he looks at you. Just know that you will be nothing more than a passing phase,” he teased.
A wet towel was painfully slapped on his throbbing face, and Elise was done with Holden. “You might want to take care of that; you don’t want the ladies to run away from you during the festival, would you?” She called with a brazen smile that didn’t reach her eyes. She didn’t like Holden at all.
“B***d,” she muttered, walking out of the room. She left the clinic and headed to Abby’s home. She was immediately met with a very worried Abby, who watched her every move.
“Everything alright?”
“How do you even live with those annoying males, Abby? Those brothers know how to mess. with me; Holden is so annoying; d***n him; and Hayden, why would they even think I’d want him after what he said?” She stopped talking, knowing she’d said too much.
“El…” Abby started.
“I’m sorry, I’m just a bit ticked off right now,” she said with a huff and a red face, pushing her hurt feelings aside.
“I have a feeling why you are those boys were handful when they were younger, getting
uschief and all that. I can’t even count how many wounds I had to heal and stitch up with those two. Holden had always felt inferior to his twin and made any situation where Hayden would be at a loss. Sometimes I just part with the moon gods. His greed wouldn’t grow deeper than that,” she continued.
“While Hayden had always tried to anchor our pack since his father’s illness, if Hayden did something to you, talk to him about it.”
How was she to tell Abby that the reason she was so mad was that she saw am with another woman’ Why was she even angry when they were nothing to each other? She shouldn’t even feel that way:
“I don’t know…. I don’t want to get into anything else with them; I’ll be leaving soon anyway.” she said to Abby: There was a sadness in the old woman’s gaze as she reached to hold Elise’s hand with a kind squeeze.
“You are your own person, and I will not force you to do what you don’t want to. You know, you remind me of your mother, who was so resilient and strong. It’s sad to see that monster break her. Do not let anyone break you, Elise, you are far too powerful for that,” she told her.
Elise still wondered how she would be judged if she chose to get revenge on the people who wronged her-all of them, including how much she suffered and the death of her unborn child
“Thank you, Abby,” she told the older woman.
“Don’t worry about Holden; we have to get you dressed for the festival; this will be the first time that all the pack folks will meet you,” she told Elise. A new kind of nervousness filled her inside.
“While you were out, I made sure to get you a dress.”
“Oh my, Abby, you didn’t need to.”
“Oh, that’s nonsense, and it wasn’t all me; Hayden made sure to get it made elegantly; Lily’s father is a tailor and made sure he made it beautifully; they were thankful for your help,” she
added.
Abby stood up at the table close to her; she took out the dress from its box, and a gasp left Elise’s lips from how beautiful it was. “Let’s get you ready,” Abby instructed.
In no time, Elise wore the gown, a tightly fitted silk dress unlike anything she’d worn before. Since the event was a festival and not a ball, the ends of the dress were cut into high slits, showing off her thighs.
She left her hair in its free, natural curls as she left for the festival that was taking place in the palace courtyard. The minute she walked in, the gazes on her were in crowds of many.
Even Hayden, who had sat by the bonfire with his friends, immediately turned to her, the smile on his lips wiped off in awe. Elise felt so nervous that she wondered if they’d receive her as the black moon did, or maybe worse.
The Calhan shadow wolves were known to be warriors of the night, the fastest killers in the realm, yet there was a peaceful pack that no one would ever know about; they’d rather kill than let anyone, especially the silver night pack, into their home.
Being the daughter of Dexton Alderman had its rumors, but from the looks of it, the twins hadn’t told anyone yet.
Elise found herself trapped staring at Hayden, whose eyes hadn’t moved from hers. She felt her body warm from his gaze, his eyes slowly studying her. For a moment, her mind flashed back to the moment she saw how he made love to another woman, how he called her name in his climax, and a blush crept in as she turned away.
Elise, I’m glad you could make it.” Brady, one of Hayden’s friends, was more lively and outspoken than his friends, but he was always nice to her. That’s how Kaide was too, but she could only see a childish intrigue and playfulness in him.
So she took his hands into a short shake. Hayden, who was watching this interaction, didn’t like it one bit; he wished that a small smile was directed at him, and he wished his hands were on hers instead. Hell, it was her face that he thought of night after night.
His mind and body were filled with nothing but her, but he couldn’t bear the thought of her leaving, or worse, being with someone else. What he felt for her was beyond anything he’d felt before.
Elise watched the crowds with a starry eye as people performed. The palace courtyard was open to all wolves for the night as they danced around the bonfire. But then her gaze moved to Hayden to see three females hounding at his pace as they touched him with admiration and lust in their gaze
gaze.
She felt weird watching it. It wasn’t long until Elise stood up to get away; everyone seemed busy, so she decided to find the powder room herself, quietly shuffling away from the courtyard when she saw Hayden was still occupied, his gaze finally moving away from her.
She took the upper steps, confused by the layout of the palace. Its beautiful, dark marbled hallways were nothing like she’d ever beheld. She admired the ways the lights bounced off

The climbed up another step that led her to a great balcony that overlooked the courtyard. She heard wild comts of cheers from below before strings of lights flew into the air, and she looked up in awe as they exploded into many colorful constellations.
“The fireworks are beautiful, aren’t they?” Elise heard a voice behind her. She turned quickly to see an old man, his white-grey hair contrasting with the color of his emerald eyes, while the left eye was stroked shut with a claw mark.
He looked so familiar, but Elise tried not to stare too much and paid her respect as the man came to stand beside her. He must be an elder, she thought.
“My dear wife loved them-one of the things that humans made so beautifully,” he said with a sad laugh. “She died years ago; I can’t wait to be with her, my dear Harriet,” he said.
“Your memory shows that you loved her so much; it shows your story will never end,” she said softly to the man, who turned to her, intrigued by her wise words. He studied her; the red hair and eyes seemed familiar.
“What is your name, child?” The man asked her.
My name is Elise Alderman. I was helped by Hayden Blackwood, who was almost on the brink of death. I’m here to meet the chief of this pack. I need to find out my true identity.”
“And do you believe the chief will meet you?”
“I will try,” she said to the man who was quietly watching her. They were interrupted by the sound of legs climbing up the steps.
Before Elise knew it, there were over ten guards, with Hayden and Holden in tow. “I’m sorry, Alpha Hayden, before I could go back to the chief’s chambers, he left and came here on his own, he muttered.
“What is the meaning of this?” The man said that with Elsie by his side, all the guards knelt, with Hayden and his twin bowing their heads in respect.
“I’m sorry, Father; we couldn’t find you; we were worried,” Holden explained. That’s when it all began to click for Elise as she turned to the old male; he wasn’t just an ordinary elder, but the chief of the clan pack, the former commander of the shadow wolves.
His presence immediately changed to that of a stoic and powerful man. He turned to Elise and said, “You wanted to see the chief of this pack; here I am.” He muttered with a hard glance at Elise.
“And care to tell me why an Alderman child is in my pack?” He questioned her fiercely. Elise felt breathless as she stared at the chief, and her heart pounded from his cold snarl as he faced her.
Finally, she met him, the Calhan pack chief. But if she doesn’t explain herself soon, this could be so much more trouble than she had hoped.
