Chapter 173 Zoe Souza
Auri had informed them the day before that she would be going on a trip to Kenfort.
As such, she decided to just let Aurelia have fun outside without any worries.
When Aurelia woke up, it was just at the break of dawn.
After a night’s rest and receiving fluids, her fever had subsided and the diarrhea had stopped.
All she felt was a sort of weakness enveloping her.
Matthew was sprawled on the couch, his eyes closed and his brow furrowed.
Sleeping like this surely wasn’t comfortable.
Remembering that he had stayed up all night watching over her, she felt a bit embarrassed.
She had been feverish and delirious last night, so she figured her appearance must have been quite shocking.
However, she wanted to use the bathroom at the moment.
She gingerly got out of bed, but her legs gave way the moment her feet touched the ground, and she almost ended up sitting on the floor.
Reflecting on the period following her marriage registration with Matthew, it seemed she had fallen ill two or three times. She hadn’t been this unwell even in an entire year.
Feeling somewhat vexed, she slowly made her way toward the bathroom of the hospital ward,
Just as she reached the bathroom, her hand resting on the doorknob, Matthew’s voice echoed from behind her. “You’re awake?”
Aurelia looked back and saw that Matthew, who was lounging on the couch, was staring at her, his dark eyes devoid of any hint of grogginess from just waking up.
Instead, there was an inherent coldness about him, a sense of oppression he himself hadn’t even noticed.
Under his gaze, Aurelia stiffly nodded. “Yeah; I just woke up. I really appreciate your help last night. Uh… I’ll go use the bathroom first.”
“Need a hand?” he offered while rising to his feet.
Aurelia’s fair face suddenly flushed. “No need! I can do it myself.”
She was genuinely afraid that she wouldn’t be able to relieve herself due to embarrassment if he were to assist her to the bathroom.
Watching Aurelia swiftly enter the bathroom, some of Matthew’s sleepiness dissipated.

It seemed as if she had significantly improved.
Aurelia had been in the bathroom for over ten minutes. When she saw her pale, haggard face in the mirror, she could barely stand to look at herself.
A simple case of gastroenteritis had her feeling as though she had suffered a major illness.
As she exited the bathroom, Gordon had also arrived.
The hospital ward was filled with the delicate aroma of oatmeal. NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
She had been sick all night, but the scent of oatmeal immediately stirred
up
her hunger.
“I picked this up on the way here. It’s breakfast from a five–star hotel, so it is absolutely hygienic and nutritious,” said Gordon when he saw Aurelia walk out of the bathroom.

He then stole a glance at Matthew’s reaction. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, he apologized to Aurelia, saying, “I’m sorry, Ms. Shaw. I didn’t know that the food from that restaurant would cause diarrhea. It’s my fault.”
“This isn’t your fault. It was my own body reacting to the food. I’ve never traveled before, so it’s inevitable I’d have a hard time adjusting to the new environment. But I’m all right, and I’ve mostly recovered now.” Aurelia didn’t blame Gordon at all.
Her health had been frail ever since she started donating blood frequently. However, her condition had improved significantly over time. She overlooked the changes in her diet due to the change in location. Had she prepared her medication in advance and consumed less food, the situation wouldn’t have been so severe.
She simply had a voracious appetite.
Upon realizing that Aurelia didn’t blame him, Gordon breathed a sigh of relief.

After their conversation, Matthew approached and said, “The doctor mentioned condition only permits you to have some oatmeal. You’re not ready for anything else yet.”
“All right.” Aurelia obediently nodded her head as she knew she had to listen to the doctor’s advice.
Watching Aurelia obey instructions like a student, a hint of amusement flashed in Matthew’s eyes. Her obedience looked rather endearing.
His voice softened as he continued, “Go ahead and have some.”
“Okay.”
Aurelia sat on the hospital bed, eyeing the bowl of delicately cooked oatmeal with a huge appetite. “Let’s eat together.”
Gordon brought Matthew a cup of coffee and a sandwich as he already had breakfast at the hotel.

eating.
Ten minutes later, Aurelia had finished all of the oatmeal.
That was when someone knocked on the door.
Aurelia had assumed it was the doctor, so when a woman dressed in a hospital gown appeared at the door, Aurélia was taken aback.
The girl appeared to be about the same age as her, only somewhat thinner. Her hospital gown hung loosely on her frame.
She was strikingly beautiful and adorable, the kind of girl whose appearance would instantly evoke a sense of tenderness in anyone who saw her. When her starry eyes met yours, they radiated nothing but pure innocence.
Basically, she was an exceptionally wonderful girl.
“Ms. Souza?” Gordon exclaimed, feeling somewhat surprised.
He was not expecting Zoe to actually show up.
He turned to look at Matthew and saw that the latter was clearly not surprised. It was as if he had known all along that Zoe would come.
“Are you guys in the middle of breakfast? I’m not interrupting, am I?” Zoe inquired with a touch
of caution.
“No, you’re not,” Matthew replied.
Aurelia glanced at Matthew, then her gaze shifted to Zoe, who was standing at the door.
Suddenly, she had an intuition that Zoe was likely the type of girl that Matthew would be fond of.
Previously, she had overheard Matthew on a call. That soft, gentle voice she heard must have belonged to the girl standing before her now.
Zoe turned to Aurelia, her smile radiating pure beauty as she said, “My name is Zoe Souza, and I’m Matthew’s godsister. I’ve heard Matthew mention his wife, and since you’re married to him, can I call you by name?”
Aurelia nodded with a smile. “Of course.”
Godsister? I haven’t heard Matthew mention this before.
“Among all the girls I’ve met, you are the most beautiful!” Zoe said, her gaze fixed on Aurelia’s face, somewhat entranced.
Aurelia’s beauty was the kind that struck straight to the heart, absolutely stunning and undeniably captivating.

Zoe pursed her lips.
Aurelia was often complimented, but when she was praised by a beauty who was equally as stunning, she couldn’t help but laugh and say, “You’re very beautiful too.”
With a smile in her eyes, Zoe said, “Thank you. I heard from Matthew yesterday that you had gastroenteritis and even had a fever. How are you feeling now?”
“I’m better now. I don’t have any symptoms at the moment,” Aurelia replied with a smile.
“That’s a relief. I’m glad everything’s fine now,” said Zoe, walking over to Matthew after she finished speaking. She looked at Matthew’s somewhat bloodshot eyes with surprise and concern as she
asked, “Did you not sleep last night, Matthew? Your eyes look red. Do you want to rest for a while now?”
Matthew’s gaze was gentle as he replied, “I’ve slept for a few hours, so there’s nothing to worry about.”
Aurelia observed the way the two interacted, their relationship resembled that of siblings, yet it was not quite the same.
She had hardly ever seen Matthew treat any other woman with such gentleness before. Angela claimed to have known Matthew for many years, even considering herself to be quite familiar with him. However, Matthew was extremely indifferent and distant toward Angela. It was clear that there weren’t many people who mattered to Matthew, and he didn’t seem particularly enthusiastic about matters of love and romance.
However, his entire demeanor toward Zoe had now softened and relaxed.
Aurelia picked up the cup and took a sip of water.
She silently told herself that Matthew’s personal affairs had nothing to do with her and she shouldn’t harbor any unnecessary curiosity.
“I have a really effective sleep mask in my ward. It’s super comfy, let me fetch it for you. Matthew, you must pay more attention to your insomnia issues.” Zoe’s voice was filled with concern, her brows furrowing in worry.
