“It’s really okay. You came to see me specifically, and I’m happy about it. These past few days have been really tough, but I’ll treat you to a meal in a few days. I can’t entertain you today.”
“We just came to see you. Don’t worry about treating us. Nydia, why do I feel like you’re distant from us?”
Willette felt that Nydia was different from before, but she couldn’t pinpoint what exactly was different. It just made her uncomfortable.
“Sister, are you blaming me?” Nydia suddenly asked Willette in a tone of disbelief. “So many things have happened to me, and you’re blaming me? I’m already at my wit’s end. How can you blame me, sister?”
As she spoke, Nydia’s eyes had turned red, leaving Willette dumbfounded.
“No, I didn’t mean that. I just…”
“Sister, you’re already so lucky. You have such an excellent husband by your side. Can’t you be more tolerant towards me?”
“?” Willette had a confused expression. What did she say?
She then turned her head to see Barclay looking at her reproachfully.
“Willette, you shouldn’t say things like that to Nydia. She’s already having a hard time, and she’s tired. Let’s not disturb her. Let’s go.”
Willette was left speechless. She didn’t say anything wrong, but Nydia and Barclay had accused her of doing so.
“Madam, master is back.” A servant came up to Nydia and said.
Then Jesse appeared in the house, sitting in a wheelchair. His face was cold, and his handsome features carried a strong aggressiveness that made people afraid to look at him.
“Mr. Pascall.” Barclay greeted him proactively.
“Hmm, have a seat.”
“We were just about to leave.” Barclay said.
“Would you like to stay for lunch or dinner before you leave? It’s almost mealtime,” Jesse suggested, trying to persuade them to stay.
Willette, Barclay, and even Nydia were surprised that Jesse would try to convince them to stay, as this had never happened before.
“What’s the matter? Don’t want to stay?” Jesse’s tone was light, with a hint of a smile, which seemed somewhat gentle.
But this kind of gentleness made Willette and Barclay feel uneasy. Jesse was usually cold and distant, so when he suddenly smiled, it was not necessarily a good thing.
“Nydia isn’t feeling very well. We’re afraid that staying for lunch will disturb you,” Willette explained.
“Why would it? I’m happy you can stay for lunch. I was worried about serving you all by myself before, but now that Jesse’s back, I’m not so worried. Let’s go to the dinning room,” Jesse said, with Nydia smiling, shaking off her previous lethargy.
Willette and Barclay exchanged a glance, both sensing a question in each other’s eyes: What’s up with this couple?
After sitting down in the dinning room, the chef began to serve the food.
“I heard Miss Malone opened a restaurant, and I imagine you know a lot about food. I wonder if today’s dishes will suit your taste,” Jesse said, initiating the conversation.
His voice was usually cold and intimidating, making it difficult for people to feel close to him. However, today he was talking more and was less icy, which made people feel that he was not so difficult to get along with.
Willette felt that Jesse’s attitude towards her today was somewhat subtle. He never used to give her a second glance, but today he invited them to stay for lunch and even mentioned the restaurant to her.
Could it be that she looked particularly good today?
