Chapter 1605: Reason
Diana was in a panic. She held the "Sacred Pearl" like a fool and stood frozen in place. After a long
period of silence, the people in the conference room gradually came back to their senses. Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
They looked at Diana's guilty and trembling expression, as if they understood something. The
expectation in their eyes gradually faded away.
Selena laughed shamelessly, "Miss Hall, you really overestimated this Miss Diana. Besides having a
vicious heart, she is useless when it comes to mechanics."
Diana's face twisted instantly, but she couldn't spare any resentment towards Selena. She couldn't
open the "Sacred Pearl," nor could she kill Selena. How could anyone from Central City protect her?
Even without turning around, she could feel Freddie's gaze on her body filled with endless anger and
killing intent after losing all her value to him.
No need to ask; even if Selena didn't make a move on her own accord, Freddie would tear her apart!
Diana turned pale like a dying fish with wide-open eyes full of fear that told everyone that she really
couldn't open the "Sacred Pearl"!
Whispers started around them.
"The owner of 'Sacred Pearl' can't teach it properly herself! This fool Diana has embarrassed herself!"
"She not only embarrassed herself but also our H Country Research Institute!"
"I can't believe I waited so long for this, and this is her confidence?! I really doubt if she actually closed
the 'Sacred Pearl', otherwise how could she be so incompetent?!" Diana was pierced to the core by
Selena's last words. She stared at Selena in horror, moving her mouth but unable to speak.
Amidst the dead silence, Lindsay nodded. "It seems that Miss Diana really can't learn."
"Well then, let me personally demonstrate for everyone," Lindsay said as she stood up again and
walked towards Diana. She extended her hand towards Diana and said, "Give me back the 'Sacred
Pearl'."
Diana looked at that white hand. What Lindsay wanted wasn't just the "Sacred Pearl", but also Diana's
life!
Diana shook her head frantically with red eyes. "Miss Hall, please give me another chance... I can
definitely open the 'Sacred Pearl'..."
Lindsay tilted her head and looked at Diana seriously. "It's useless; you'll never be able to open it in
your lifetime."
The fact that even following Selena's instructions couldn't open it meant one thing: when Selena closed
off the 'Sacred Pearl', she made changes to its internal structure.
Not only could Diana not open it, even Selena couldn't be 100% sure of opening it herself.
That monarch was truly waiting quietly for them to come kill her.
Diana was filled with despair as she yelled with red eyes: "No! I cannot fail; it cannot happen..."
As she spoke, Diana was about to lose control and smash the "Sacred Pearl" in her hand.
Lindsay frowned, standing behind Diana with two bodyguards from downtown. They immediately
stepped forward and snatched the "Sacred Pearl" from her hands as she screamed in agony. They
cleaned it up and respectfully handed it over to Lindsay.
Lindsay regained possession of the "Sacred Pearl."
Meanwhile, Diana was being held by the two bodyguards on one side.
Lindsay walked back to her seat with the "Sacred Pearl," looking at Selena.
At this moment, not only were members of the Turner family nervous but even Osvaldo who was
closest to Selena couldn't control his nerves.
Diana wasn't a threat at all; she was just a pawn in this game.
Lindsay had actually activated the power of the "Sacred Pearl" before and almost succeeded in killing
Osvaldo.
Selena sat calmly without flinching or avoiding eye contact with Lindsay's gaze as she rubbed her
fingers over the surface of "Sacred Pearl" while smiling serenely at Selena
She looked at Selena and said softly, "I'm sorry I have to do this myself - kill you."
Everyone gasped when Lindsay made that statement. The members of The Tribunal reflexively raised
their guns towards Lindsay
Robert's face first tightened then relaxed again as he realized there is no longer any need for secrecy
or hiding anything.
"We did it, Selena, Osvaldo. We'll die here together," he said.
But they failed. He and Lindsay died at Selena's hands.
There was no need to hide anymore.
Selena's voice followed soon after, "Put the gun down. You're no match for her."
Lindsay had enough on her to destroy anyone who tried to shoot her first.
If Selena wasn't there, she could kill everyone in the room if she wanted to!
Were the geniuses of Lab 717 really that simple?
Their minds were the most terrifying thing in this world!
Oscar stared at Lindsay for a few seconds before waving his hand.
The people from the tribunal took back their guns.
Many experts from Zone Six frowned collectively behind their screens.
"What does this mean?" they asked those from Central City.
"You've gone too far by openly killing our director at H Country Research Institute!" they accused
Central City of responsibility for what happened in H Country Research Institute
Robert ignored H Country's accusations completely while researchers from Central City looked
confused and panicked.
Mr. McCoy stood up abruptly, "Mr. Hall, Miss Hall, what are you doing?!" Lindsay ignored the
questioning voices and just looked at Selena. Selena returned her gaze with a smile, "Miss Hall wants
to kill me, there must be a reason for it?" Lindsay answered seriously, "As Mr. McCoy has already told
you earlier, the reason is that you look like the former queen of Central City." Robert was taken aback
by this answer and glared at Lindsay. She was blatantly dragging Lillian down with her! Despite his
warning glance, Lindsay continued,"This is the most fair way to handle things." She didn't like
unfairness; it made her uncomfortable.
In today's assassination attempt, if Selena and Osvaldo died then they would no longer pose any threat
to Lillian's throne. And if they failed then Lillian would have a legitimate reason to go after Selena and
Osvaldo.
The risk and reward were equal for both sides.
Selena raised an eyebrow with a half-smile on her face,"So because I look like the former queen of
Central City who happens to be the current heir apparent's biggest threat to ascending to power... that's
why she sent you guys here to kill me?"
Lindsay nodded solemnly,"Yes."
The H-country people present may not have understood but all of Central City's researchers had black
expressions on their faces upon hearing this reasoning.
