Chapter 323
Naomi and her longtime friend often shared smiles, but she felt an unusual sense of fear whenever Naomi stopped smiling.
Take, for example, the present moment.
Seeing Naomi's downturned expression, Amelia quickly signaled Charles with her eyes, urging him to take Naomi to visit his grandmother.
She knew Naomi, and Charles agreed to visit Charles' grandmother that day. The timing could not be better.
Charles, though reluctantly, nodded in agreement. Sensing Naomi's unhappiness, he approached her, wanting to assure her. However, observing her furrowed brows and contemplative expression, he chose his words carefully. "Let Amelia rest."
Naomi's typical response to any problem was to analyze the cause and then find a solution. Once an event had occurred, worrying was futile. The crucial aspect was how to prevent a recurrence.
For Amelia's current situation, Naomi understood the reasons and the circumstances that led to it, but finding a solution proved challenging.
For a moment, she was stumped.
Charles's voice brought her back to reality, and she nodded in agreement. "Alright."This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Amelia immediately chimed in, "Naomi, go with Charles to visit his grandmother, then stroll around San Angelino. I need a good nap, I'm exhausted."
"The hospital had caregivers, so you don't need to worry about me, just have fun," she said. Hearing this, Naomi could not help but sigh.
Turning around and approaching the bed, she looked at the person watching her with a pleasing smile. Naomi helplessly spoke, "Just rest well. Don't play with your phone. I'll come back later." Amelia immediately nodded. "Yeah, I won't play. I promise!"
After saying that, she handed her phone to the caregiver, "Sabina, please keep my phone for me. I want to take a nap. Don't bother about any calls or messages. Just ignore them." The caregiver, named Sabina, was in her fifties. Taking the phone, she smiled and said, "Sure, Ms. Reed."
With the phone taken away, Amelia promptly lay down on the bed, looking at Naomi, blinking with an innocent expression that seemed to say, 'Look how well-behaved I am'.
Naomi smiled and said, "Alright, lie down and rest."
"Okay, okay!"
Amelia obediently lay down, and Naomi covered her with a blanket, ensured the was properly administered, and checked the drip speed. After confirming everything was fine, she instructed the caregiver, "Sabina, please take care of Amelia when I'm not around. Make sure she doesn't move around during the IV, and definitely no eating. If anything comes up, give me a call. Take down my phone number."
"Sure." Sabina took out her phone. Naomi gave her the number, and Sabina entered it, nodding in acknowledgment.
Naomi then looked at Amelia, "If there's urgent work, handle it, but after that, rest well. Take advantage of this hospital stay to recover." Amelia nodded briskly. "I got it!"
Her serious demeanor seemed
almost as if she was afraid Naomi would not believe her. Naomi knew Sabina was a reliable choice made by Sean, so she did not say anything more.
Taking the bag containing the insulated thermos out of the cabinet, Charles saw it and took it over. "I'll handle this."
"Sure." Handing the bag to Charles,
Naomi placed a phone that had
been charged into it, and everything was neatly arranged. Naomi looked at Amelia. "Call me if you need anything."
"Mmhmm."
Amelia was exceptionally obedient, like a well-behaved child. Naomi knew that Amelia was afraid of making her angry.
She got angry only because she cared about her.
Without saying more, Naomi and Charles left.
The door to the hospital room closed. Amelia lay on the bed, listening to the fading footsteps outside until they disappeared. She instantly relaxed.
It was really scary when Naomi did not smile.
Sabina closed the door and sat down at the bedside. "Ms. Reed, if you need anything, just let me know."
As Naomi left, Amelia relaxed. She yawned, feeling drowsy. She said, "I'll take a nap first. Wake me up if there's anything."
"Alright, Amelia."
