Please Come Back, Honey!

Chapter 14

Chapter 14

Chapter 14 After Trevor ended the call, Zachary spoke up in a laid-back tone of voice. “Since you’re worried that Emma might be trying to latch herself onto you by playing hard-to-get, why don’t you just crush her hopes by getting married to Crystal? That would be the end for her, and your mom would stop nagging you as well,” he suggested. Trevor could tell that Zachary was partially teasing him, so he simply gave the latter an icy glare before he turned and got into his car. His driver sped off as Zachary gave Trevor an exasperated wave before heading off to his own car. That’s the thing about love. You’re blinded when you’re in it. Emma didn’t feel too good after getting into the cab. She felt like she was suffocating because of the heavy sensation in her chest. She didn’t miss or long for Trevor after seeing him. Instead, she felt rather annoyed at how arrogant he seemed. Look at the way he’s talking to me! Does he think I still care for him? What a joke! I once thought that I wouldn’t be able to survive without him, but I later realized that my life is really fulfilling and fun even without him. After leaving him, I realized that I didn’t need anyone to keep me alive. Emma’s job as a scriptwriter didn’t require her to show up in the office every day. She would have to attend department meetings when she had to explain parts of her script, but during other times, she was free to complete her script from home. The next morning, Emma took some time to travel to the mall. She wanted to buy some gifts for Christopher. Emma didn’t want to have anything to do with Christopher after the divorce, but the elderly man had insisted on keeping in contact with her throughout the whole year that she had been away. Every now and then, he would check in with her and ask about her life overseas. Emma couldn’t bring herself to block his number, so she continued talking to him. Christopher often complained about his sore neck and the air conditioner in his house that was turned on during summer, which made his sore neck worse than usual. Hence, Emma figured that she would buy a scarf that could protect his neck. As she was strolling around the men’s area in the mall, she bumped into Trevor once more. Maybe I should get my fortune told. This year is really not my year, she grumbled to herself. Trevor was dressed in a black suit, which made him look elegant and mature. His cool and classy demeanor could make any woman’s heart flutter.

Coincidentally, Trevor had also stopped by to pick out a gift for Christopher. Christopher’s birthday was a while ago but Trevor had been outstation for work, so he hadn’t managed to celebrate Christopher’s birthday with him. In the past, Emma would be the one to prepare Christopher’s birthday gift for him, so Trevor wouldn’t have to do anything. This year, however, Trevor had to pick one out on his own. Christopher had told him to go over for lunch that day, so Trevor thought that he would bring a gift to appear a little more sincere and caring. Initially, Trevor had other plans for that afternoon. However, Christopher had insisted on him visiting that day, so Trevor had no choice but to reschedule his plans. Presently, Emma pretended not to see Trevor once again. She lowered her gaze as she focused on choosing a scarf. Trevor made one round in the area before he walked over and stopped next to her. “Your taste is still as horrible as ever,” he whispered in a spiteful tone. Honestly, he didn’t know what was going on in his mind. When he thought about Emma’s dinner date with Adam the night before, Trevor immediately assumed that she was picking out a gift for the man. The thought of that made his blood boil, so he attacked her with his harsh words before he could even process the situation. Emma pressed her lips as she looked at the checkered beige scarf that she was holding in her hand. The scarf seemed perfect for someone who was Christopher’s age, yet Trevor had insulted her before he even got a grasp of the situation. The way that he acted reminded Emma of how things had been when she first married him. Back then, Emma would sweetly prepare different sets of work outfits for Trevor. However, he would heartlessly comment on her bad taste. Emma didn’t think that she had a bad taste in clothes. After all, there were a few times when Susanna had gotten Emma to pick out her evening gowns for award ceremonies. The outfits that Emma had chosen were often complimented by Susanna’s fans. Trevor just doesn’t like me. That’s why he has so much to say about everything that I do.Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
