Chapter 21
Chapter 21 A Little Price To Pay
Emily was furious, pushing Nathan's hand away. "Nathan, are you out of your mind?! You're the one who wants a divorce, and you're also the one who doesn't want it. What exactly are you trying to do?!" Her voice was loud, but luckily the seafood restaurant was empty in the early morning, with only a few staff glancing over.
Nathan, who usually cared a lot about his image, grabbed her hand and dragged her towards a private room. "Let's talk inside."
"I'm not going! Nathan, let go of me! If you keep this up, I'll scream for help!" Emily resisted, firmly holding onto the wall to prevent him from dragging her away.
Nathan smirked coldly, "Emily, you've become quite hot-headed after a few days apart. Tell me, who is the man you've been with?"
"Who I'm with is none of your business!" Emily clenched the wall tightly, refusing to be dragged.
A waiter, noticing the tense situation, approached and asked, "Mr. Reed, is everything okay?"
"It's none of your concern. My wife and I had a little argument, she's throwing a tantrum. I'll handle it. You go back to work; I didn't call for you, so don't disturb us." Nathan's face was cold as he spoke to the waiter. The waiter hesitated but since Nathan was a regular customer, they didn't dare to pry further, just nodded and retreated.
Emily shouted for help, "I'm not his wife! I'm not! Please help me call the police!"
"Emily!" Nathan growled lowly, "Don't test my patience! Just because I've changed my attitude towards you doesn't mean you can behave recklessly!"
"I'm not interested in you! Let go of me!" Emily retorted coldly.
The waiters looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
Fortunately, at that moment, Sophia returned from fixing her makeup.
"Nathan, what's going on..." Sophia saw Nathan entangled with another woman from afar, about to rush over to question him, then she saw the woman's face. She widened her eyes, "Emily?"
Emily's wrist was still tightly held by Nathan. She frowned and gritted her teeth, "Nathan, your woman's here. Are you going to keep holding onto me?"
Nathan's face was full of unwillingness, but he still let go of her.
Once Emily was free, she rubbed her sore wrist and turned to Sophia, her face ironclad, "Sophia, you're just in time. Can you please control your man? Otherwise, I'll go and report him for harassment. I mean what I say."
Sophia's expression wasn't much better. Before, a little coquetry from her would easily win Nathan over, but ever since he saw her makeup mishap, he had been cold to her for several days. Now she was trying her best to please him, how could she possibly control him? She hesitated for a moment, then put on a soft expression and smiled, "Emily, you might have misunderstood. Nathan cares about you even though you've been separated for four years. He probably just wants to know how you've been. Right, Nathan?" Nathan sneered, ignoring Sophia, and strode out of the door.
As his figure disappeared from view, Sophia's smile immediately turned into anger. "Emily, what's the meaning of this? You've already signed the divorce agreement, yet you still came here? Let me tell you, Nathan won't turn back."
"I wish he never would," Emily didn't give her a good look, "And besides, I'm not here for him. Don't treat Nathan like some golden bachelor; I'm not interested!"
Sophia clearly didn't believe her, sneering, "Stop pretending. Nathan's handsome and a billionaire. You were lucky to marry him in the first place. You couldn't even match up to him, so you got dumped, didn't you? You didn't get a penny from the divorce settlement, so where did you get the money to dine at such an expensive seafood restaurant? It's obvious you came here specifically for him!"
Emily didn't want to continue engaging with her. "Think whatever you want, I just don't want any connection with Nathan anymore. Believe it or not, it's up to you."
"You're just jealous," Sophia concluded maliciously. "You're jealous that I have a higher education than you, jealous that Nathan likes me. Well, it's understandable. In families like the Reed's, as long as you marry in, you'll have a good life forever. Every woman wants to marry Nathan. Are you jealous that he never took you out to eat? I doubt he ever did." Emily chuckled softly. She understood now. There was no reasoning with someone like Sophia; it wasn't worth wasting time on her.
"You have a taste for shit, that's your own preference, you freak. Emily wouldn't compete with a dog for shit," Olivia, who had just finished in the restroom, came back and grabbed Emily's arm. "Emily, let's go. We're not talking to someone who likes to eat shit." Sophia instantly became furious. "Who are you calling full of shit?"
Olivia laughed. "Whoever likes to eat shit, of course! Oh, by the way, your piece of shit just ran off. Aren't you going to chase after it? Be careful, the waiter might come looking for you to pay the bill later! Do you even have money?"
With that, Olivia pulled Emily out of the seafood restaurant with her head held high.
As Olivia drove, she chuckled. "People like Sophia need to be taught a lesson to feel satisfied; otherwise, they'll just keep pushing boundaries."
Emily sighed. "I didn't expect to encounter them when we came out for dinner. It's really frustrating. I'm sorry, Olivia, for ruining your good mood."
"You didn't ruin anything. I heard that Nathan often brought Sophia to this seafood restaurant, so I wanted to try my luck today, and it turned out we actually ran into them!"
Emily was surprised. "You... you deliberately brought me here?"
Olivia gave her a comforting look. "Yes. And I did something else. Do you know what I did when I left just now?"Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
"Didn't you go to the restroom?"
"No, I put today's meal on Nathan's tab! Hahaha! Now that Nathan's gone, Sophia will have to foot our bill. Just thinking about it makes me feel great!"
Emily couldn't help but laugh helplessly. "No wonder you ordered so many expensive seafood dishes today. You were planning to trap Sophia from the beginning?"
"How is that trapping?" Olivia pouted. "It's just a little price she has to pay for the wrongs she's done!"
